Unit 1 Happy Holiday
①My Unforgettable Summer Vacation
Last summer holiday, I went to Qingdao with my family. It was the most wonderful trip I’ve ever had. The city is near the sea, and the air there is very fresh. We stayed in a small hotel not far from the beach.
First, we visited Golden Beach. The sand was soft, and the sea was blue. We built sandcastles and swam in the sea. It made me feel very relaxed. Then, we ate lots of delicious seafood at a local restaurant, like crabs and squid. We also took a boat to see small islands around the city.
Although the trip was only five days, I had a great time. I will always remember this happy holiday. I hope I can go to Qingdao again next year.
去年暑假，我和家人去了青岛。那是我经历过的最棒的一次旅行。这座城市靠海，那里的空气非常清新。我们住在一家离海滩不远的小旅馆里。

②A Meaningful Winter Holiday
During the last winter holiday, I didn’t just play. I did many meaningful things that taught me a lot. I wanted to make my holiday useful, not just for fun.
Every morning, I spent two hours helping my grandma do housework. I cleaned rooms, washed dishes and learned to make dumplings. It was fun. Every afternoon, I went to the community library to read books. I read storybooks and science magazines. They helped me know more things. I also volunteered at an animal shelter for three days. I fed small cats and dogs, cleaned their cages and played with them.
This holiday was happy and educational. I learned many new things. I hope next winter holiday will be great too.
上个寒假，我不只是玩，还做了很多有意义的事，从中学到了不少东西。我想让我的假期变得有用，而不只是为了玩乐。

③My Happy Holiday with Friends
Last month, I had a holiday with my best friends, Tom and Lucy. We planned to go camping in the mountains for two days. We were all very excited about this trip.
On the first day, we got up early and took a bus to the campsite. It took us two hours. First, we put up our tents together. It was hard at first, but with Tom’s help, we did it well. Then we went hiking in the forest. We saw beautiful birds and colorful flowers. In the evening, we made a fire, cooked noodles and talked about interesting stories. On the second day, we climbed to the top of the mountain and watched the sunrise. It was amazing.
When we went home, we felt tired but happy. This trip with friends was unforgettable. I want to go camping with them again.

Unit 2 Home Sweet Home
①My Warm Family Home
My home is a small but warm apartment in the city center. It is the sweetest place for me. I live here with my parents and my little brother.
There are three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom in my home. My favorite room is my bedroom. It is light blue. There is a big window in it, and I can see the street from the window. I have a bookshelf with many storybooks. I also have a comfortable bed. Every evening, my family and I sit in the living room. We watch TV, talk about our day and eat snacks. At weekends, my mom cooks delicious food in the kitchen. The house smells good.
I love my home not because it is big, but because it is full of my family’s love. This is the best place for me.
我家是市中心一套不大但很温馨的公寓，对我来说，这是最温馨的地方。我和爸爸妈妈还有弟弟一起住在这里。

In my home, there is a cozy little corner. It is my favorite place. It is a reading nook near the window in the living room.
This corner is small, but it is nice. There is a soft armchair with a pink blanket. There is a small table and a lamp. The lamp gives warm light. Every weekend morning, I sit in the armchair with a cup of hot milk and a book. The sun shines through the window. I feel very comfortable. Sometimes, my little sister sits with me. I read stories to her. We laugh and talk.
This corner is not special to others, but it is special to me. It makes me happy and peaceful. It tells me home is the sweetest place.

I live in an apartment now, but my hometown is a small village in the countryside. It is like a big sweet home for me. I will never forget it.
The village is surrounded by green mountains and clear rivers. There are many small houses with red roofs. The streets are clean and quiet. Everyone in the village knows each other. Neighbors help each other. Last year, my grandma was ill. Mrs. Li next door came to take care of her every day. At weekends, I played with other children in the field. We flew kites, ran and picked flowers. In the evening, the village was quiet. I could hear crickets sing.
Now I only go back to my hometown on holidays. But every time I go there, I feel warm. My hometown is a big home full of love.

①My Best Friend and I—Same but Different
My best friend is Lily. We are similar in some ways, but we also have many differences. We are good friends because we understand each other.
We have the same hobbies. Both of us like reading and painting. Every weekend, we go to the library to borrow books. We also have painting games at school. We like the same music too—soft pop music. Our favorite singer is Taylor Swift. But we are different. Lily is outgoing. She likes making new friends and joins many school activities. I am a little shy. I like to be quiet and think. In study, Lily is good at remembering things, so she is good at history. I am good at thinking logically, so math is my favorite subject.
Even though we are different, we help each other. These differences make our friendship more interesting. We learn from each other and become better.
我最好的朋友是莉莉，我们在某些方面很像，但也有很多不同之处。我们能成为好朋友，是因为我们互相理解。

②City Life and Country Life—Different but Wonderful
City life and country life are very different. But both are wonderful in their own ways. I have lived in both places, so I know them well.
The environment is different. In the city, there are many tall buildings. The streets are busy with cars and buses. There are many shops and restaurants. In the country, there are green fields, tall trees and clear rivers. There are small houses with big yards. The air is fresh, and the sky is blue. The pace of life is also different. People in the city live a fast life. They get up early to work or study. They are always busy. In the country, people live a slow life. They get up early to do farm work, but they have time to enjoy nature.
I like city life because it is convenient and exciting. I also like country life because it is peaceful and beautiful. Both lives are good.
城市生活和乡村生活差别很大，但两者都有各自的美好。这两个地方我都住过，所以很了解它们。

③My Two Favorite Subjects—Same Interest, Different Fun
Math and English are my two favorite subjects. I like both of them, but they give me different fun. I learn a lot from both subjects.
The ways to learn them are a little similar. For both subjects, I need to practice a lot. For math, I do many exercises to get better at solving problems. For English, I practice speaking and writing every day to be more fluent. Both subjects are useful in life. We use math to count money and tell time. We use English to talk with people from other countries.
But the fun is different. When I solve a hard math problem, I feel proud. It is like solving a puzzle. For English, the fun is in talking. When I can talk with a foreign teacher or understand an English movie without Chinese words, I am excited. It helps me know more about the world. Math and English make my school life colorful.
数学和英语是我最喜欢的两门科目，我都很喜欢，但它们给我的乐趣不一样，我从这两门课里都学到了很多。
学习它们的方法有点像，都需要多练习。学数学，我要做很多练习题，提高解题能力；学英语，我每天练习说和写，让表达更流利。而且这两门课在生活中都很有用：我们用数学数钱、看时间，用英语和其他国家的人交流。

Unit 4 Amazing Plants and Animals
①The Amazing Sunflower
Sunflowers are very amazing plants. I like them very much. They are different from other common plants.
Sunflowers look special. They have big, round flower heads. There are many small yellow petals around the head. The center is brown and has many seeds. The stem is tall and strong. The leaves are big and green. The most amazing thing is that sunflowers follow the sun. From morning to evening, the flower head turns from east to west to face the sun. At night, it turns back to east to wait for the sun to rise. This helps sunflowers get more sunlight to grow.
Sunflowers are also useful. Their seeds can be eaten as snacks or made into oil. The flowers can decorate rooms. Every time I see sunflowers, I am surprised by their beauty. Sunflowers are wonderful plants.
向日葵是非常神奇的植物，我特别喜欢它们，它们和其他常见的植物不一样。

②The Cute and Amazing Panda
Pandas are amazing animals. They are China’s national treasure. They are very cute and popular.
Pandas look cute. They are big and fat. They have black and white fur. Their eyes are surrounded by black fur, like wearing glasses. Pandas’ diet is amazing. Pandas are bears, and most bears eat meat. But pandas mainly eat bamboo. A panda eats about 12 to 38 kilograms of bamboo every day. They spend 10 to 16 hours eating bamboo. The rest of the time, they sleep or rest. Pandas can also climb trees. Even though they are heavy, they climb tall trees quickly. They climb to avoid danger or play.
Now pandas are rare. Many people work hard to protect them. I hope I can see a real panda in the zoo one day. I like pandas very much.
熊猫是很神奇的动物，它是中国的国宝，长得可爱，特别受欢迎。

③The Amazing Venus Flytrap
The Venus Flytrap is a very amazing plant. It is not like other common plants. I think it is very interesting.
Most plants get food from soil and sunlight. But the Venus Flytrap is a meat-eating plant. It eats insects. Its leaves are special. Each leaf has two parts, like a small trap. There are sharp teeth on the edges. Inside the trap, there are small hairs. When an insect lands on the leaf and touches the hairs twice, the trap closes quickly. The teeth stop the insect from running away. Then the leaf makes a special liquid to break down the insect. This liquid helps the plant get important nutrients from the insect.
The Venus Flytrap grows in places where the soil has few nutrients. So eating insects helps it live well. It takes about 10 days to break down one insect. After that, the trap opens again to wait for the next insect. Every time I learn about it, I feel surprised. The Venus Flytrap really shows how wonderful nature is.

Unit 5 What a Delicious Meal!
①My Favorite Delicious Meal—Beef Noodle Soup
Beef noodle soup is my favorite meal. It is tasty and warm. It is especially good on cold days. My mom’s beef noodle soup is the best.
My mom makes the soup carefully. First, she boils beef bones with onions, carrots and some spices for a long time. This makes the soup taste good. Then she cuts beef into thin slices and cooks them in the soup. The beef is tender. The noodles are thick and chewy. They take in the soup’s flavor. My mom also adds fresh green vegetables, like bok choy, to the soup. It makes the soup colorful and healthy.
When I eat the soup, I first drink a little soup. It warms my body. Then I eat noodles, beef and vegetables together. Every bite is delicious. I love this meal because it has my mom’s love.
牛肉面是我最喜欢的食物，既好吃又暖和，天冷的时候吃尤其舒服。妈妈做的牛肉面是最好吃的。
妈妈做牛肉面很用心。首先，她会把牛骨和洋葱、胡萝卜还有一些调料一起煮很久，这样汤的味道就特别香浓。然后她把牛肉切成薄片，放进汤里煮，煮好的牛肉特别嫩。面条又粗又有嚼劲，能吸满汤的香味。妈妈还会往汤里加新鲜的绿叶蔬菜，比如小白菜，这样汤不仅颜色好看，还更健康。

②A Delicious Home-Cooked Meal with My Family
Last Sunday, my family and I cooked and ate a delicious meal at home. It was a great experience. We all had fun.
My parents and I decided to cook three dishes: stir-fried shrimp with broccoli, tomato and egg soup, and braised pork ribs. My dad cooked the pork ribs. He fried the ribs until they were golden. Then he added soy sauce, sugar, garlic and water. He boiled them for a long time. The ribs were tender and sweet. My mom cooked the shrimp and broccoli. She fried garlic first, then added shrimp and broccoli. The shrimp was fresh and crispy. The broccoli was green and crunchy. I helped make the tomato and egg soup. I beat eggs, cut tomatoes and cooked the soup with my mom’s help. The soup was sweet and sour.
When all dishes were ready, we sat around the table. We talked and laughed while eating. Every dish was delicious. This meal was full of family love.
上个星期天，我和家人一起在家做饭、吃饭，这是一次很棒的经历，我们都玩得很开心。

③The Most Delicious Meal I Ate on My Trip
Last summer, I went to Sichuan with my family. I ate the most delicious meal there—spicy hot pot. I will never forget its taste.
We went to a popular hot pot restaurant. The restaurant was lively. The waiter brought a big pot with two parts. One part had spicy red soup. The other part had clear soup. We ordered many foods, like beef slices, lamb rolls, mushrooms, tofu, potatoes and noodles. When the soup boiled, we put the foods into the pot. The spicy soup smelled of chili and Sichuan pepper. It made me want to eat. The beef in the spicy soup was tender and spicy. The clear soup was fresh. The mushrooms in it tasted good. We also ate cold dishes, like spicy cucumber, to cool our mouths.
Eating hot pot with my family was fun. We talked and shared the food. This meal is a great memory of my Sichuan trip.
去年夏天，我和家人去了四川，在那里吃到了我这辈子最美味的一餐 —— 麻辣火锅，我永远忘不了那个味道。

①My Weekend Plan
Weekends are good for relaxing and doing things I like. I make a plan for this weekend to enjoy it well. I am looking forward to it.
On Saturday morning, I will get up at 8 o’clock. After breakfast, I will do my homework for two hours. I think finishing homework first is good. Then I can enjoy the rest of the weekend. In the afternoon, I will go to the park with Tom, my best friend. We will ride bikes, play basketball and have a picnic. We will take sandwiches, fruits and juice. We will eat under a big tree. In the evening, I will go to the cinema with my family. We will watch a new animated movie.
On Sunday morning, I will help my mom do housework. I will clean my bedroom, wash dishes and water plants. In the afternoon, I will read my favorite book and practice playing the piano for an hour. Before bed, I will get my schoolbag ready for Monday. This weekend will be great.
周末很适合放松，做自己喜欢的事。我为这个周末制定了计划，好充分享受它，我特别期待。

First, I plan to learn to swim. I have wanted to swim for a long time, but I had no time. I will take swimming classes three times a week. Swimming is a good sport. It keeps me healthy and cool in summer. Second, I want to read more books. My mom bought me many books, like storybooks, science books and history books. I will read one book every week and write a short review. It can help me improve my reading and writing. Third, I will help my grandparents with farm work. They live in the countryside. They are busy with crops in summer. I will stay with them for two weeks. I will water vegetables, pick fruits and feed chickens.
Finally, I will go on a short trip to the beach with my family. We will stay there for three days. We will enjoy the sun and the sea. This summer holiday will be fun and meaningful.

The new term is coming. I make a study plan to improve my grades and be a better student. A good plan helps me succeed.
First, I will change my study habits. I will get up early every morning. I will read English aloud for 30 minutes. It can help me improve my pronunciation and remember English words. After school, I will do my homework first when I get home. I won’t play before homework. I will focus on homework and not look at my phone. Second, I will listen more carefully in class. I will listen to teachers carefully. I will take neat notes. When I don’t understand something, I will ask teachers or classmates.
I also plan to study with my friends. We will help each other. I will review lessons every evening and prepare for the next day’s classes. I believe this plan will help me do better in the new term.
新学期要到了，我制定了学习计划，想提高成绩，成为更好的学生。好的计划能帮我取得进步。

①My Dream Job in the Future
Everyone has a dream job. My dream job is to be a primary school English teacher. I want to help children learn English well.
I like children very much. They are cute and lively. When I see them learn new things happily, I feel happy too. I am good at English. I can speak English fluently and read many English storybooks. I think I can share interesting English knowledge with students. For example, I can teach them English songs and play English games in class. It can make English classes fun.
To make my dream come true, I will study hard now. I will learn English better. I will also read books about teaching. I will practice speaking in front of my family. I believe if I work hard, I will be a good English teacher tomorrow.
每个人都有梦想的工作，我梦想的工作是当一名小学英语老师，想帮孩子们学好英语。
我特别喜欢孩子，他们又可爱又活泼，看到他们开心地学习新知识，我也会觉得很快乐。我的英语学得不错，能流利地说英语，还能读很多英语故事书，我觉得我可以和学生分享有趣的英语知识。比如，我可以在课堂上教他们唱英文歌、玩英语游戏，让英语课变得有趣。
为了实现梦想，我现在就要努力学习，把英语学得更好，还会读一些关于教学的书，在家人面前练习讲课。我相信只要努力，将来我一定能成为一名好的英语老师。
②What Will My Hometown Be Like in 10 Years
I love my hometown very much. I often think about what it will be like in 10 years. I believe it will become more beautiful.
Now, there are some small factories in my hometown. They sometimes make the air a little dirty. In 10 years, I think those factories will use clean energy. The air will be fresher. There will be more trees and flowers. The rivers will be clearer. People can walk along the river and enjoy the view. Now, there are only two small parks. In 10 years, there will be more big parks. Children can play there, and old people can do exercise there.
Also, the traffic will be better. Now, sometimes there are traffic jams. In 10 years, there will be more buses and subways. People can go out more easily. I am looking forward to the beautiful hometown tomorrow.
我特别爱我的家乡，经常想象 10 年后它会是什么样子，我相信它会变得更美丽。

③My Plan for Tomorrow
Tomorrow is Saturday. I have a small plan for it. I want to make tomorrow a happy and useful day.
In the morning, I will get up at 7:30. I will do some exercise first, like running in the community. It can make me energetic. Then I will have breakfast with my family. After breakfast, I will help my mom clean the house. I will wipe the table and sweep the floor. In the afternoon, I will go to the library with my sister. She is in Grade 3. I will help her read English picture books. I will also read my favorite science book there.
In the evening, my family and I will cook dinner together. My dad will cook fish, my mom will cook vegetables, and I will wash the dishes after dinner. Before bed, I will write a short diary about tomorrow. I believe tomorrow will be a great day.
明天是星期六，我为它制定了一个小计划，想让明天成为快乐又充实的一天。

Unit 8 Let's Communicate!
①My Experience of Communicating with a New Classmate
Last month, a new classmate came to our class. Her name is Amy. She was a little shy and didn’t talk much. I wanted to be her friend, so I tried to communicate with her.
One morning, I sat next to her. I smiled and said, “Hi, Amy. Do you like our class ” She looked at me and smiled back. She said, “Yes, everyone is nice.” Then I talked about our math teacher. I said, “Our math teacher is funny, right His classes are interesting.” She nodded and said, “I think so too. I like his classes.” After that, we talked about our hobbies. I said I like reading, and she said she likes drawing. We found we both like watching animated movies.
Now, Amy and I are good friends. We go to school together sometimes. I know that communicating with a smile and kind words can help us make more friends.
上个月，我们班来了一位新同学，她叫埃米，有点害羞，不怎么说话。我想和她做朋友，所以试着和她交流。

I used to not like talking to my parents about my school life. But once, I had a problem and communicated with them. Then I knew communicating with parents is important.
Last term, I had a hard time with my math homework. I couldn’t solve many problems. I felt worried but didn’t want to tell my parents. One evening, my mom found I was sad. She sat next to me and said, “Do you have something to tell me ” I told her about my math problem. She listened carefully. Then she helped me find a math exercise book. She also told me to ask the teacher for help when I don’t understand. With her help, my math got better.
Now, I often talk to my parents about my school life—like interesting things in class or problems with friends. They always give me good advice. I know communicating with parents makes us closer. It also helps us solve problems easily. We should talk to our parents more.
以前我不喜欢和父母聊学校生活，但有一次我遇到困难，和他们沟通后，才明白和父母交流很重要。

③How to Communicate Well with Friends
Friends are important in our life. To keep good friendship, we need to communicate well with them. I have some small ways to do it.
First, we should listen carefully when friends talk. Last month, my friend Tom was sad because he lost his new pen. I sat next to him and listened to him quietly. He felt better after talking. If we interrupt friends when they speak, they may not want to share again. Second, we should be honest. Once I forgot to return Tom’s storybook. I told him the truth and said sorry. He forgave me quickly. Lying to friends will break our trust. Third, we can share our feelings with friends. When I get good grades, I tell my friends. When I feel sad, I talk to them too. It makes our friendship stronger.
Good communication helps us keep friends for a long time. I will keep doing these small things to communicate well with my friends.
朋友在我们的生活中很重要，要维持好的友谊，就需要和朋友好好沟通。我有几个小方法可以做到这一点。
