根据Girl Before a Mirror部分“Picasso said he preferred this painting to any of the others (毕加索说他喜欢这幅画胜于其他任何一幅画)”可知,《镜子前的女孩》是毕加索的最爱。
根据Guernica部分“Its depiction of an aerial bombing attack on the Basque town of Guemnica in April 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, was a visual prelude (序曲) to coming violent act of World War II.
根据第二段“Velazquez has already completed one documentary film, 'Lazy Ants', which documents research on inactivity in ants.”
根据第四段Velazquez的问题“Would these ants help other workers trapped in the dirt using sound signals Would an ant from Colony A rescue an ant from Colony B, or would it only help ants from its own colony ”可知,他想探究这些蚂蚁会帮助“什么样的其他蚂蚁”(是被困的工蚁,还是自己蚁群或其他蚁群的蚂蚁)。
根据第六段“He then color-coded ants from different colonies... The goal was to see... if the ants would understand the sound from different colonies.”
根据最后一段Velazquez的话“It's definitely worth your time to potentially discover something new about yourself.”
根据第三段第一句话“This is not accidental. Developers have become even more unashamed in their attempts to keep us hooked on our smartphones.”(发生这一切不是偶然的。
根据题干Dopamine Labs's founder定位到第四段,再根据第四段倒数第二句“He thinks there should be more conversation around the persuasive power of the technologies being used.”(他认为,应该对说服技术的使用进行更广泛的讨论。)
可知,主语应该指人,再结合横线后“the resistance movement against addictive apps”(抵制易上瘾应用运动)以及“He thinks the power to change the system lies not with app developers but with the hardware providers. In 2014, Harris founded “Time Well Spent”, a group that campaigns for more moral design practices among developers.”(他认为,改变目前这一体系的力量不掌握在应用开发人员手上,而掌握在硬件提供商手中。 The advertiser 顾问;B. The advocate 支持者;C. The opponent 反对者;D. The founder 创始人。
通读全文,第一段作者提出“It is, I think, the only app on my phone I’d really miss were I to swap my smartphone for a “dumb” one that handles only calls and text messages.”(如果我要将现在的智能手机换成只能打电话、发短信的“傻瓜”手机,谷歌地图可能是我唯一真正想念的一个应用了);第二段“It’s because every time I try to read a book, I end up picking up my phone instead. I keep interrupting my own train of thought in order to do something that I don’t consciously want to do.”(因为每当我想读会儿书时,我最终拿起的却是手机。
Those with generalized anxiety disorder or mood disorders often report feeling uncomfortable with or being troubled by feelings of uncertainty-which doesn't help when you need to make a decision, big or small.
根据 …and the other unstable, in which the shape with a higher probability of resulting in reward switched every twenty trials. In the unstable block, therefore, the participants had to keep adjusting their responses as the probabilities change. 故选A
Sonia Bishop suggests that encouraging people to focus on past successes rather than failures could be a useful behavioral intervention, making those difficult decisions a bit less tricky.
Now in a new study, researchers find that people with higher levels of anxiety and depression are less able to adapt to fast-changing situations. But with the right intervention(干预) there may be ways to help those with anxiety or depression make better decisions in the moment.

One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. Squirt was delighted, intending to get involved. But on second thoughts, he stopped and looked back at us. Kaytlin gave him a thumbs up, " Come on and join them!" Encouraged by Kaytlin, Squirt jumped onto the tree and followed the squirrels timidly. A baby squirrel of the family noticed Squirt. It seems that the baby squirrel liked Squirt and they looked at each other curiously. Shortly after, the squirrels were aware of what happened. They jumped into another tree and we took Squirt home.
One night, Squirt didn't come back to our home and it rained hard. " What the devil happened " Then we looked for Squirt everywhere. The rain streamed down and we were seized by nameless panic. Suddenly there came an exciting cry, " Mum, Here he is!" We raced towards a big tree. There was a hole beneath a big branch, at the entrance of which Squirt was standing and chattered at us. Then more heads of squirrels came in sight! The smiles on the girls' face shone like diamonds. "Squirt has returned home safely. Let 's go home, too!" Kaytlin said emotionally.

One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. They immediately became excited and chattered with each other. We were concerned that he might not be able to adapt to the wild, but he seems to be doing fine. He began to learn how to forage, carefully observing the behavior of gray squirrels, learning how they build nests in tree branches and how to forage for food. He also learned how to place food on branches so they were easier to grab. We were amazed by Squet's performance, he seemed to be very used to life in the wild.
One night, Squirt didn't come back to our house and it rained hard. We were worried he might not survive in the wild, but he came back the next morning with a big smile on his face and he found a safe place sleep, now ready to live alone. We couldn't be more relieved when we saw him back because we knew he'd be able to find a safe place to sleep in the field and he's made a lot of progress and we're so proud of him. We know he will be able to take care of himself and live a happy life in the wild.

One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. Squealing in ecstasy, never had Squirt acted so delightfully in his life. He bounced up and down in the trees as if announcing to the whole world that he had found his own pack. In return, the squirrel family, especially the young, welcomed Squirt by licking his fur and tickling his belly. Soon, they chased after each other in the twigs and branches. At the sight of this, Kaytlin said, half joking and half serious, that Squirt would soon become wild, to which we all responded with a sad smile. In the following days, Squirt hanged out a lot with his newly made friends and came back to us increasingly late.
One night, Squirt didn't come back to our house and it rained hard. "Squirt, Squirt." Our kids yelled continuously into the pitch dark and pouring rain, but there was still no sign of Squirt. Desperate, our whole family put on our raincoat, took out our torchlight and combed different corners of our yard. Suddenly, Kaytlin cried out aloud in front of a tree hole, "He is here, with the squirrel family!" Rushing over, we found, to our great relief, that Squirt was snuggling together with the young cub squirrels, sound asleep. "Maybe it's time to let him go." Kaytlin said in a choking voice. Squeezing her hands, my husband and I nodded and said gently, "We know it's hard but that day will finally come." Indeed, life through our kids' eyes was full of happiness and sorrow, but anyway, they discovered their own world of love with the company of a nearly domesticated squirrel named Squirt.

W: True. Video has begun to improve at a surprising pace: companies like Runway and Pika have shown text-to-video models of their own, and Google’s Lumiere is one of OpenAI’s primary competitors in this space. Similar to Sora, Lumiere gives users text-to-video tools and also lets them create videos from a still image.
M: It’s definitely something we need to keep an eye on as it could reshape the advertising landscape significantly.
W: We’ll need to adapt and find ways to use this technology, making it work to our advantage
Isidora Djukic, a student at John Carroll University, never thought that one day she would be in a classroom where an English professor asked her to play a board game to learn about climate change.
Djukic is taking a biology class called Climate Change: Global Impacts. At the same time, she is taking an English class called Environmental Literature. Her university requires students to take two connected classes that examine the same subject in different ways.
Debra Rosenthal is the English professor. At first, Djukic said she was uncertain about Rosenthal’s board game idea. “I was just thinking the idea could be interesting. But can we really learn about climate change just by playing a board game What specifically can we get from such a game ”
Rosenthal bought six copies of a game called “Solutions”. The goal is to pick cards and then add them to the game board in a way that helps reduce global temperatures. Students do not compete against each other. They work together and try to come up with a solution so that the planet is not destroyed. The game is different from some other board games such as “Monopoly”, where the goal is to win.
Students read materials and then discuss their ideas. In most classes, Rosenthal said, students laughed, disagreed and had to call for votes as a way to decide how to move forward in the game. Djukic said it was a way to have fun while also learning about such a serious subject.2025年下期绥宁县第一中学高三年级月考试题卷

It’s hard to imagine a visual record of the 20th century without Picasso. The Spanish artist captured everything from the horrors of war to the boundless possibilities of the human form. Even those unfamiliar with the modern art history can likely identify a few of his best-known paintings,
The Old Guitarist
Completed: Late 1903 to early 1904
Where to see it: Art Institute of Chicago
The Old Guitarist has to be one of the most sorrowful paintings to ever capture the rt world’s imagination. The figure depicted (描绘) thin and cross-legged appears exhausted as he sits over his brown guitar.
Garcon a la Pipe
Completed: 1905
Where to see it: Private collection
With Garcon a la Pipe (Boy With a Pipe), we move from Picasso’s blue period to the more lively rose period. And while the figure in the oil-on-canvas portrait is clothed in blue, the background features happier shades of ochre and pink.
Girl Before a Mirror
Completed: 1932
Where to see it: Museum of Modern Art (New York)
If there’s a single painting that screams Picasso, this might be the one. Girl Before a Mirror is alive with color, pathos and charming shapes that take cubism to its extremes. Picasso said he preferred this painting to any of the others, according to MOMA’s founding director, Alfred H. Barr Jr.
Guernica
Completed: 1937
Where to see it: Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid)
Guernica is Picasso’s best-known work. Its depiction of an aerial bombing attack on the Basque town of Guemnica in April 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, was a visual prelude (序曲) to coming violent act of World War II. The muted tones of gray further emphasize the shapes of humans, their arms outstretched in extreme pain. Guernica has become one of the most recognizable anti-war paintings in history.

What's your favorite insect It's an odd question that many people may not be able to answer. But UA Honors College student Matt Velazquez certainly can. Ants have always fascinated him. He loves studying their behavior almost as much as he loves filmmaking.
Velazquez has already completed one documentary film, “Lazy Ants”, which documents research on inactivity in ants. The film recently achieved first place at The Scientific Research Society competition.
Then Velazquez noticed that a colony(群) of ants called trap-jaw ants occasionally make mysterious buzzing sounds, which he set out to explore.
“It's very rare in the animal kingdom for organisms to help other organisms, especially in insects, ” Velazquez explained. “I wanted to find out the role of sound communication in a colony of trap-jaw ants. Would these ants help other workers trapped in the dirt using sound signals Would an ant from Colony A rescue an ant from Colony B, or would it only help ants from its own colony ”
Velazquez started by collecting a sample of the ants and analyzing sound bites to see how often the buzzing occurred.
He then color-coded ants from different colonies and buried the workers in different layers of dirt. The goal was to see how far down the noise would travel, and if the ants would understand the sound from different colonies.
It turns out, Velazquez has discovered that these ants communicate at a frequency in the ultrasonic(超声波的) range, which is simnilar to bats. He is currently in the process of building a microphone sensitive enough to pick up these tiny insect calls and also be able to pick up the ultrasonic frequencies.
When asked what advice he has for incoming students who are unsure about getting involved in research, Velazquez recommended the Honors College First Year Project.
“It's an awesome way to see if you even like the field of research, " he said. “It's definitely worth your time to potentially discover something new about yourself. ”
24. What is the film made by Velazquez mainly about
A. Different ant colonies. B. Ants that help each other.
C. Ants that don't do active tasks. D. Sound communication between ants.
25. What did Velazquez intend to find out with the ants he collected
A. How they worked with other ants.
B. What other ants they would help.
C. When they would help other ants.
D. How often they received sound signals.
26. Why did Velazquez color-code the ants
A. To bury the workers in the dirt.
B. To see how far ants would travel.
C. To record interaction between colonies.
D. To identify ants from different colonies.
27. What does Velazquez say about a research project
A. It contributes much to your studies.
B. It helps to recognize your potential ability.
C. You may learn a lot of new things from it.
D. You will have to spend a lot of time on it.

I’ve recently found myself wondering if I could do without Google Maps. It is, I think, the only app on my phone I’d really miss were I to swap my smartphone for a “dumb” one that handles only calls and text messages.
Why am I thinking about this It’s because every time I try to read a book, I end up picking up my phone instead. I keep interrupting my own train of thought in order to do something that I don’t consciously want to do.
This is not accidental. Developers have become even more unashamed in their attempts to keep us hooked on our smartphones. Some of them speak in the language of addiction and behavioural psychology, though most prefer the term “persuasive tech”. In itself, persuasive tech is not a new idea — an academic named BJ Fogg has been running classes from a “persuasive tech lab” at Stanford since the late 1990s. But as smartphone ownership has rocketed and social-media sites have been born, persuasive tech has vastly expanded its reach.
One company, Dopamine Labs — named for the chemical released in the reward center of the brain — offers a service to tech businesses wanting to “keep users engaged”. Founder Ramsay Brown tells me he wants people to understand that “their thoughts and feelings are on the table as things that can be controlled and designed”. He thinks there should be more conversation around the persuasive power of the technologies being used. “We believe everyone has a right to cognitive liberty, and to build the kind of mind they want to live in,” he says.
The poster child of the resistance movement against addictive apps is former Google “design ethicist” Tristan Harris. He thinks the power to change the system lies not with app developers but with the hardware providers. In 2014, Harris founded “Time Well Spent”, a group that campaigns for more moral design practices among developers.
Any tech business that relies on advertising profits is motivated to hold its users online for as long as possible, Harris says. This means apps are specifically designed to keep us in them. Apple, on the other hand, wants to sell phones but doesn’t have a profit stream so tightly connected to the amount of time its customers spend online. Harris hopes that companies like Apple could use their influence to encourage more morally designed apps.
While I wait for Apple to sort this out, I find myself longing for something called a “Light Phone”, a credit-card-sized handset that does absolutely nothing but make and receive calls. Price tag $150.Seems expensive. But the company’s website is very persuasive.
28. According to the author, what makes us so glued to our smartphones?
A. People's inborn behaviours .B. App developers’ intention
C. User-friendly apps D. Hardware providers
29. Dopamine Labs's founder believes that ____.
A. Tech businesses have gone too far in controlling users’ minds
B. Persuasive technologies are dangerous to users’ cognitive liberty.
C. The persuasive power of the technologies deserves more attention
D. Everyone can live the life they desire by using persuasive technologies.
30. Which of the following best explains the underlined words “The poster child” in paragraph 5
A. The advertiser B. The advocate C.The opponent D.The founder
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Do we have a right to cognitive liberty
B. What have persuasive tech done to us
C. Why a dumb phone is a smart move
D. How smartphones shape our minds

When you're going through a period of anxiety or depression it can be difficult to make decisions, whether those are significant life changes or everyday choices. Those with generalized anxiety disorder or mood disorders often report feeling uncomfortable with or being troubled by feelings of uncertainty-which doesn't help when you need to make a decision, big or small.
Now in a new study, researchers find that people with higher levels of anxiety and depression are less able to adapt to fast-changing situations. But with the right intervention there may be ways to help those with anxiety or depression make better decisions in the moment.
Participants were aged between 18 and 55; some had symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder or major depressive disorder, while others had no history of mental illness at all.
In the study, after filling in measures related to anxiety, depression, and worry, participants took part in a video game. In each round, they were asked to choose between two shapes: picking one shape resulted in a reward, while the other delivered an electric shock.
The task took place in two blocks-one stable, in which one shape was associated with a reward 75% of the time and the other 25% of the time, and the other unstable, in which the shape with a higher probability of resulting in reward switched every twenty trials. In the unstable block, therefore, the participants had to keep adjusting their responses as the probabilities change.
Those participants with symptoms of anxiety or depression were slower to adjust their responses to the changes in probabilities. This suggests that mood disorders are associated with difficulty making decisions in changing circumstances.
Senior author Sonia Bishop argues that those participants who adapted quickly did so because of their emotional resilience. "Emotionally resilient people tend to focus on what gave them a good outcome, and in many real-world situations that might be key to learning to make good decisions, ”she says.
Sonia Bishop suggests that encouraging people to focus on past successes rather than failures could be a useful behavioral intervention, making those difficult decisions a bit less tricky.
32. According to the text, which of the following affects decision-making
A. Feeling uncomfortable with someone.
B. Feeling unsure of what will happen.
C. Wondering who will make a decision.
D. Wondering how to help make a decision.
33. What was the purpose of the unstable block
A. To create a fast-changing situation.
B. To train participants to respond to changes.
C. To make the video game more challenging.
D. To help those with anxiety make decisions.
34. Why does Sonia Bishop suggest focusing on past successes
A. To improve decision-making.
B. To remember the achievements.
C. To adapt quickly to a new situation.
D. To avoid making difficult decisions.
35. What advice can be given according to the study
A. Try to think quickly when making decisions.
B. Don't expect too much when making decisions.
C. Don't focus on one single thing when making decisions.
D. Reduce your anxiety or depression when making decisions.

My husband and I enjoy seeing life through the eyes of our children. It's amazing to watch as they discover their world.
While we were outdoors last summer enjoying the sunshine, our oldest daughter, Kaytlin, called me to the doorway. Beneath the steps was a baby red squirrel(松鼠).
We watched it from a distance, not wanting to disturb it or scare off its mother. But after a long wait - and looking all around our house for signs of a nest or a mother-we realized the tiny squirrel was lost.
Shaking terribly, he was weak, thin, and hungry. We tried to find an expert to help, but the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website showed that there were no wildlife experts in our area. After some quick research, we concluded that the best way to give the squirrel a fighting chance was to care for him ourselves. So a trip to the local store for milk and supplies was in order. More research taught us how much to feed him, how to estimate his age, how and when to wean(断奶) him, and that we should let him go as soon as he could survive on his own.
Our daughters and I took turns in feeding “Squirt. ” Kaytlin took on the most responsibility. She taught him to eat from a bottle, and she woke in the night for his feeds.
To our relief, Squirt soon became healthy and strong. Within a few weeks he became more active. He would chatter(吱吱叫)for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn't long before he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild.
His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels.
One night, Squirt didn't come back to our house and it rained hard.
