Many cats like empty shoe boxes or packing boxes. When there are such boxes in the house, they often become the cat’s favourite places to be. This is the case with my cat, Molly. I bought her an expensive cat house, but she still prefers to stay in an old box. 16 is this What’s so special about this box
In fact, cats tend to love boxes of all shapes and sizes. Honestly, you should try it. Just drop a box in front of them. The next thing you will see is real 17 on your cat’s face.
One reason is that cats are predators (捕食性动物) by nature. This is why they prefer to be 18 on all sides. This helps them to ambush (伏击) their prey (猎物). Of course, they’re not going to attack someone every time they are playing around in a box. But it’s their natural behavior to act this way.
Another explanation is about how cats deal with stress. Cats are very 19 facing difficult situations. They find it easier to simply run away instead. A box offers them the opportunity to escape from the outside world. Staying in a small box gives them a sense of security.
Claudia Vinke, a Dutch scientist, did a(n) 20 about the stress levels of cats. She first divided many cats into two groups. She gave the first group empty boxes and not the other. Then, she let both groups of cats stay with strangers. After several experiments, she found that the cats in the first group were more friendly and comfortable with the people around them. 21 , it could be said that the cats got comfort and security from being able to stay in the boxes.
It should be noted that not all cats love boxes. But for most cats that do, these are some of the most widely believed reasons.
Time to go now. Molly is calling me to feed her. Meow!

28.Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答下列问题)
One recent Sunday morning, I planned to read a bit of a novel after breakfast. Just as I opened the book, however, my phone rang. A deliveryman asked if he could put a package in the parcel locker downstairs. I agreed and hung up. Shortly after, my friend Brad messaged me on WeChat. Our quick chat turned into a 40-minute conversation. When we finished, it was already eleven. As I was about to get back to my book, a promotional (推销的) email popped up. Then, the Eleme app chimed (鸣响) in: It’s lunchtime! Click here to get a coupon!
This experience reminded me of an article I had recently come across about Christopher Nolan. The Oscar-winning director is known for high-tech movies like Inception (《盗梦空间》) and Interstellar (《星际穿越》). But in his personal life, the 53-year-old avoids technological distractions. He doesn’t own a smartphone and has never used email. He does write the scripts (剧本) for his movies on a computer, but the device (设备) has no internet connection. “I’ve never used email. I don’t think it’s helpful for anything I do,” he said. “And staying off a smartphone gives me time to think.”
Of course, Nolan is able to live without a phone or email account because his assistants can take calls and respond to online messages for him. Most of us can’t expect to live a life like that of an influential director. However, that doesn’t mean Nolan’s “no email, no phone” policy (策略) doesn’t make any sense (言之有理). Rather, it shows us the importance of focus in today’s digital world.
The sharp rise in internet usage over the past ten years has come at a cost. That is, we are slowly losing the ability to focus. Our smartphones and other devices can distract us at any second of the day. It has become increasingly difficult to focus on one task for long periods of time.
Nolan’s ability to produce so many excellent movies probably has something to do with his ability to focus. Without digital distractions, he can be all in when he works. He can fully focus on the job until it’s done.
Most of us can’t afford to entirely cut our internet cord (网线). But when we want to focus—on our work, our studies or just a good book—we might ________________.

People started playing “football” thousands of years ago, 16 in different forms. Among them, the Chinese were the first.
The Chinese form of football was called cuju. During a typical (典型的) game, two teams kicked a ball 17 a hole in a net. One team would score if the other let the ball fall to the ground. Written 18 of people playing it date back to Zhan Guo Ce and Shiji.

Cuju began to fade (逐渐消失) during the Ming Dynasty. Today, it 21 serves as a tool for cultural exchange. For example, performers 22 off some cuju skills during the recent Qatar World Cup and some Qatari football players joined in. Some football superstars, like Brazil’s Ricardo Kaka, have also tried their “foot” at it. Perhaps a revival (复兴) of this 23 game is much needed, especially when Chinese football fans are in search of a source of pride.
