因为学生刚刚结束期中考试,于是我提出问题 “What did you do to relax yourselves last weekend ”,这样就自然地将话题引向本文的主题 “movies”。
What will you organize the passage if you want to write about movies
Teaching Design
This period of class serves as the lead-in part of a new unit, in which students are supposed to fulfill several tasks for the purpose of getting familiar with the topic and making good preparation of it. In addition, students can also practice the basic reading skills required in their three-year school learning – predication, skimming, scanning, understanding the contextual clues etc. All the class activities are elaborately designed to achieve the pre-set teaching objectives.
Lead-in of the text serves as the warming-up activity to help students know the topic of the new unit in a quite natural way. It aims at inspiring students’ curiosity about the topic of the new unit.
Picture Talking helps to arouse their interest in the topic and inspire them to think independently and creatively. Brainstorm also helps to introduce the important topic of the new unit – action movie. By the end of the activity, the students can’t wait to know what the text is to tell them.
Some food for thought is left with the students during the class. Knowledge can’t be fully absorbed unless it is put into real life. Through My Response, students are supposed to share opinions about their favorite action movie or stars as well as the reasons for their success. Students are allowed enough room for imagination and feel free to express themselves.
Skimming and Scanning are the basic reading skills for students to master all through their learning process. The skill can be best put into practice when students are wholly new to a text. They can rely on nothing but the required reading skills and their background knowledge. After doing this part, the students get a general idea of the text and collect bunches of information, which qualifies them to carry out the following tasks.
Assignment guides students to prepare for the next stage of the text – language learning stage. It enables students to stabilize what they have learned from the last class and get ready for the new class.
Rationale
All the tasks involved in this period of class are designed on the “Four Motive Strategies” and based on the Life Education. Task-based language teaching is the guiding principle of this period of class.
Lead-in is designed to active readers’ interest and curiosity. A significant amount of research has been conducted by second language reading researchers indicating that reading comprehension and reading skills are enhanced when interest is activated.
Meaning does not reside in the text itself. Meaning is reached when the reader integrates personal background knowledge, purpose for reading, reading strategies, and the text to get meaning. The Skimming and Scanning task is arranged for the purpose. Teachers facilitate the process by teaching learners how to do this. One possibility that teachers can consider is to get readers to monitor their reading comprehension by being cognitively aware of what they are doing when they read and then being able to discuss how they have arrived at comprehending the text.
The ability to look at the reading process from all sides makes it easier to evaluate. Evaluation can allow the learner to examine the issues also. My response is an important component in the evaluation process.

Part VI My Response
Which one do you favor in an action movie
The movie stars or the stunt professionals Why
Part VI Assignment
1. Read the text carefully for more information
2. Find more information about stunts by using every possible method
Thank you
for joining the class!
Para A&B: They are simply breathtaking!
On the screen, the US actor Tom Cruise is throwing himself through a glass window as a large car explodes behind him; the actress Helen Hunt is running from hurricanes as homes and cows are swept up.
And, of course, there is Stallone doing … everything.
Para C: Do your own stunts – a new trend!
It seems to be popular these days for actors and actresses to do their own stunts in action movies, and the fact is that the big names are indeed doing more stunts. According to a director, some actors do as much as ninety per cent of their own stunts, while the last ten per cent are generally left to stunt professionals. These are the men and women who make a living risking their lives on behalf of the big names in action movies.
Para D: The only one – a real hero!
However, there is an exception. The only actor who does not allow anyone else to do his stunts is Jackie Chan, the Hong Kong phenomenon. He takes pride in doing all the stunts in his action movies. Jackie Chan has been doing his individual brand of dramatic martial arts for fifteen years. He is no doubt a walking miracle of physical endurance. Of course, along with that heroism are numerous broken bones and a hole the size of a coin in his head.
Para E: Don’t worry – we’ll make them believe!
Us action filmmakers do not want their movie stars to be injured, so stunt experts are always called in to do dangerous parts that require talent. At the same time, they also try hard to make the audience believe that the famous faces are performing every stunt.
Para F: Courage alone is not enough!
Actors and actresses would also like the fans to be believe that there are no professionals doing the stunts for them. Many of them insist on doing their own stunts in the movies. Then accidents are inevitable. For instance, Helen Hunt was knocked unconscious when filming one scene – she opened the door of a vehicle and jumped off while it was speeding through a cornfield. Helen later admitted, “I have all the courage of a stunt person, but I don’t have all the talent.”
Para G: No worry, the experts are there!
As for the audience, there is absolutely no need for you to worry about your favorite stars, who are bragging about performing the stunts on TV talk shows. It’s entirely possible that someone else took the fall. As Helen said, there is still a lot of work out there for stunt professionals.
Para C
