第一课时 Section A 1 (1a-2d)
一、教学目标:

三、教学过程
Ⅰ. Lead-in
Do you ever be late for school
Let Ss talk about their experience and show some situations that may cause their late.
For example:I overslept.
My alarm clock didn't go off.
The bus was too crowded to get on.
I left my schoolwork in my house! I had to go back and get it !
I thought it was Saturday, but actually it was Friday!
Please avoid these situations, and don’t be late ,or the teacher will punish you.
Ⅱ. New words
Show the new words on the screen. Explain the new words and Ss read the new words after the teacher.
III. Presentation
Work on 1a
Look at the pictures of Mary’s morning and see what happened to her

IV. Listening
Work on 1b
1. Read the instructions. Let the students to focus on the verb forms in the recording.
2. Play the recording for the first time. Students listen and try to fill in the blanks.
3. Play the recording a second time. Listen and check their answers.
4. Get the students to focus on the sentences. Teach the past perfect tense. Write the structure:had+done.

1. Read the sentences in 2b. Play the recording again. Students listen and complete the sentences.
2. Play the tape once more. Check the answers with the whole class. Read aloud the sentences.

【句型剖析】
by the time意为“到……时候; 在……之前”, 其后接一般过去时的时间状语从句时, 主句通常用过去完成时。
(2)过去完成时表示某一动作或状态在过去某一时间或动作之前已经发生或完成。它表示发生的时间是“过去的过去”。过去完成时的结构: “助动词had+过去分词”。
By the time the storm ended, more than 100 people had been killed. 到暴风雨结束时, 已有100多人丧生。

1. I was about to go up when I decided to get a coffee first.
be about to do sth.即将做某事。侧重于表示动作马上就要发生, 常与when引导的从句连用, 但不与具体的时间状语连用。
例: The new school year is about to begin. 新学年开学在即。
2. I went to my favorite coffee place even though it was two blocks east from my office.
even though “即使, 虽然, 尽管”, 用于引导让步状语从句。
例:He’s the best teacher, even though he has the least experience.
他虽然经验最少, 却是最好的老师。
3. As I was waiting in line with other office workers, I heard a loud sound.
loud在此处用作形容词,意为“大声的;响亮的”,可用作定语或表语。
例:He has a loud voice.
他嗓门儿很大。
The music is too loud, please turn it down.
这音乐太吵了,请把音量关小一点。
【拓展】
loud还可用作副词,意为“非常吵;声音很大地”,与 loudly同义。一般只与动词speak、talk、laugh、sing等连用,且必须放在这些动词之后。
例:I can't hear you, please speak louder.

He speaks loud and clear.
他说话又响亮又清楚。
②aloud只作副词,强调“出声”,通常与动词read、speak、think等连用。如read aloud大声朗读;think aloud自言自语。
③loudly只用作副词,比用作副词的loud使用范围更广,放在所修饰动词前后皆可。
例:He heard a cock loudly crow.

【注意】 用于比较级或最高级的结构中通常用loud,而不用loudly。

stare v. 盯着看, 凝视
表示看得比较仔细, 有时候也带有吃惊的意味去看, 常与at、into连用。
例: Don’t stare at me like that.

辨析 look at、stare at与glance at
look at 意为“看,看着”,指把眼睛转向目标。 例:I'd like to look at your photo. 我乡看看你的照片
stare at 意为”盯着;注视“表示由于吃惊,害怕或深思而张大眼睛看。 例:She stared at the footprint,full of fear. 她两眼盯着脚印,满心恐惧。
glance at 意为“匆匆一看;一瞥”。 例:The middle-aged woman glanced at her watch and hurried off. 那位中年妇女匆匆看了一下手表就离开了。
5. I felt lucky to be alive.
alive 一般作表语;也可以作后置定语或宾补。“活(着)的;在世的;(继续)存在的”;反义词是dead。
例:Do you know she’s alive
你知道她还活着吗?
People alive should try their best to live better.
活下来的人应该尽力生活得更好。
Tom was kept alive in the big fire.

辨析 alive、living与 lively
①alive “活着的”, 在句中常作表语或定语。作表语时, 常可与 living互换;作定语时, 常要放在被修饰词之后。
②living“活着的”, 在句中用作表语或定语。
③lively“活泼的”, 在句中可作表语或定语。
6. But by the time I got to the airport, my plane to New Zealand had already taken off.
take off 脱掉; 起飞
例:Put on your clothes. Don't take them off.
把衣服穿上,别脱掉。
We eventually took off at 11 o’clock and arrived in Venice at 1:30.

2)Read carefully and have a good understanding of the passage with the help of the chart, then fill in the blanks.
5.After Reading
Work on 3b:
1) Ask Ss to read the passage again and find words from the passage with opposite meanings to the words below. Let Ss write a sentence with each word on their own.
1.lost: found I found my wallet.
2. west: east The sun rises in the east.
3. below: above Above the building, there is black smoke.
4. dead: alive He is alive after the accident.
5. empty: full The cup is full of water.
2) Ask several students to write their sentences on the blackboard.
3) Check their answers together.
Work on 3c
1) Read the words and expressions in 3c.Get the students to retell the story in the groups.
2) Ask some students to retell the story to the whole class. Show some sentences on the board to help.
3) Safety education. Teach them how to save themselves or escape to safety when meeting with accident.
IV. Grammar focus
1. 学生阅读Grammar Focus中的句子,然后讲解。
◆ When I got to school, I realized that I had left my backpack at home.

由when, by the time, before等引导时间状语从句时,若描述发生在过去的事,主句常用过去完成时(had + 过去分词)表示动作发生在过去的过去。
◆ I was about to go up to my office when I decided to get a coffee first.
◆ As I was waiting in line with the other office workers, I heard a loud sound.
be about to do, be doing等表示即将或正在做某事时,常用when引导从句表示突然发生的动作。
be about to do sth. when...=and then
正要做某事,这时,突然另外一件事情发生...
V. Grammar
过去完成时用法:
(1) 构成:由“助动词had (用于各种人称和数) + 过去分词”构成
否定式:had not + 过去分词
缩写形式:hadn’t
(2) 用法:过去完成时表示在过去某一时间或动作之前已经发生或完成了的动作。
(3) 它所表示动作发生的时间是“过去的过去”。
① 表示过去某一时间可用by, before 等构成的短语来表示。
② 也可以用when, before 等引导的时间状语从句来表示。
③ 还可以通过状语从句或通过上下文暗示。
例如:
When I got there, you had already eaten your meal.
当我到达那里时,你已经开始吃了。
By the time he got here, the bus had left.
在他到达那里之前,汽车已经离开了。

2. Students fill in the blanks on their own.
3. Ask students to say out the full sentences to the class. Ask them why they fill those.

2. Read aloud the words in the frame. And put them in the correct columns in the chart.
3. Students check their chart in pairs and the teacher asks some students to check the class.
4. Ask Ss make sentences with the words in 1a.

1. Ask the students to tell their partners something happened. Use the beginning in the box. Work in pairs.

[Language points]
1. April Fool’s Day is a celebration that takes place in different countries around the world.
take place 意为“发生;进行;举行;产生”
辨析:happen 与take place
happen 常指具体的事物发生,特别指那些偶然的“发生”。不及物动词,没有被动语态 sth. happen to sb. 意为“ 某事发生在某人身上”。 后接不定式,表示“碰巧;恰好”之意。happen to do sth 意为“碰巧做某事”。
take place “发生”, 也无被动语态,指经过安排或计划而发生。 2.“举行”The sports meeting will take place in our school.
2. It happens on April 1st every year and is a day when many people play all kinds of tricks and jokes on each other.
play tricks on sb. 意为“捉弄某人”,而play jokes on sb. 则是“对某人开玩笑 ”的意思。
3. Many people ran to their local supermarkets to buy as much spaghetti as they could. as +形容词/副词的原级+ as sb. can / could 相当于as + 形容词/副词原级+ as possible,意为“尽可能地……”,在句中作状语。
例: We must do everything as well as we can.
= We must do everything as well as possible.

4. Many April Fool’s jokes may end up being not very funny.
end up doing sth.意为“以 ...... 结束,以 ...... 告终”。
例:I must make good use of my spare time, or I will end up doing nothing.

5. He asked her to marry him.
marry sb. 意为“嫁/娶某人”。
get married to sb. 意为“嫁/娶某人;与某人结婚”,为短暂性词组。
be married to sb. 意为“嫁/娶某人;与某人结婚”,是延续性词组。
例: She married John last year.
= She got married to John last year.
= She has been married to John for one year.
她去年嫁给了John。

land on 意为“着陆;降落于”,反义词组为
“take off ”, 意为“起飞”。
例:Be careful! The plane is going to land on the airport.

1. Tell the stories of their April Fool's Day in groups of four. See whose story is the funniest.
