第一课时 Section A 1 (1a-2d)

Ⅰ. Lead-in
Review the kinds of movies or popular songs and answer the question “How do you feel about the movie ”
Ⅱ. New words
Show the new words on the screen. Explain the new words and Ss read the new words after the teacher.
III. Discussion
Work on 1a
1. Show some pictures about their own experience. Then use adjectives to describe them with proper feelings on the face.
e.g. This rock music made me excited and want to dance.…
2. Show the pictures of the two restaurants in 1a. Ask students to describe them in pairs.
3. Help students to say out their thoughts or feelings with “make sb. do sth.” and “make sb. adj.” .
4. Ask two pairs to write down their answers on the blackboard.
5. Check the answers in groups.
IV. Listening
Work on 1b
1. Read the instructions and the contents in 1b. Play the recording for the first time. Ask them to fill in the blanks.
2. Check the answers in pairs.
3. Play the recording a second time, ask Ss read the passage after the tape.

Work on 1c
1. Ask the students to say which restaurant Amy or Tina likes according to 1b.
2. Read aloud the conversation with one student as a model.Then practice it in pairs.
3. Get the students to correct their predictions about Amy and Tina. Say these sentences with the main structures “make sb. do sth.” and “make ab. adj.” like this.

VI. Listening
Work on 2a:
1. First let students guess what the pictures mean in 2a.
2.Listen and number the picture (1-4) in the order you hear them.
3. Correct the answer in the whole class.
4. Listen again and let Ss try to read this passage after the tape.
Work on 2b.
1. Let Ss read the sentences in 2b, and find out what part of the sentence is missing.
2. Ask the class to pre－fill the blanks in 2b according to the pictures and the recording. Remind them of the adjectives about feelings. Play the recording again. Students listen and finish their filling work.
3. Play the recording again and check the answers with the whole class. The teacher asks questions to get the students answer with complete sentences.

VIII. Role-play
1. The teacher introduces the relationship between the three persons, Julie, Nancy and Alice. Present the new language items. e.g. is not sure what to do about, the more…, he more…, have…in common, is now better friends with me than her, feel left out, make sb. stronger
2. T asks Ss what Bert's suggestion to Nancy is. And get the students to read the conversation in 2d.
3. Ask the class to read the conversation more carefully by themselves. Then act out the conversation in pairs.
4. Play the recording and get the students to read the conversation after the tape. And find the sentences with “make”.

1. Show pictures which express power, money and fame. Ask for the students' feeling about them.
2. Look at the picture and ask：Who is the man Do you think he is happy Have the students read the article quickly. And answer the questions.
3. Ask one student to read the first question in the right top box. And get the class to read the first and the second paragraphs. And then ask the question and the class answer it. And so they deal with the left part.
4. The teacher tells the story with pictures，body language and exaggerated expressions. Teach the new language points.

V. Grammar
make的使役用法：
make作使役动词，意为“使；迫使”，其
常用结构如下：
1. make + sb. + adj. 意为“使得某人……”。如：
The news made him happy.
这个消息让他很开心。
可用到的形容词有：
happy，pleased，surprised，angry，
annoyed，sad，upset，unhappy，worried，anxious，excited，relaxed，stressed out，tense，calm，scared，comfortable，sick …
2. make + sb. + do sth.意为“使得某人做某事”。(不能带不定式符号to) 。如：
Nothing will make me change my mind.
什么也改变不了我的想法。
注意：make sb. do sth.的被动结构是sb. be made to do sth.，意为“某人被迫做某事”。当make 用于被动语态时，必须带不定式符号to。如：
He was made to lie in bed all day.
他被迫每天躺在床上。
