There are tiny forests taking root in European cities. It is part of a popular movement that started in Asia to clean the air, cool down temperatures, and improve the quality of life of city residents (居民).
This movement began in India with an Indian businessman Shubhendu Sharma. In 2014,Sharma gave a talk about how valuable the forests he had been planting across India are. He said that they grow ten times faster than common forests and are more biodiverse (生物多样性的). Sharma planted them anywhere he could, near schools, factories, and houses.
Now, Europeans are following his example. But first, Europeans had to adapt (适应) his methods to the different soil conditions, species and climate.“Species growing here are more likely to do well and be able to adapt to climate change," said Belgian biologist Nicolas,“So, I contacted scholars to find suitable native tree species and locally sourced materials to improve the soil. ”
The first tiny forest was planted in the UK in 2020 in a program run by ecologist Victor Beumer for Earth-watch. He said that the organization plans to collect data about biodiversity and carbon sequestration (碳封存) so that the environmental influence of the forests can be tracked in the long term. There are 17 of these forests now and 21 will be planted by 2022.
Daan Bleichrodt grew the first tiny forest in the Netherlands with the guidance from Sharma. By the end of 2021, there will be 200 of these tiny forests in city centers across the country. Each of the forests begins with a survey of the nearby plants and trees to find out which ones are native to the area. Each tiny forest is planted with 20 to 40 trees and plants.
While these European forests are young and their influence on the environment is still unknown, one thing is for sure. Bringing more nature into cities will have a positive effect on the life of city residents. Being in nature is good for your health and happiness.

A Michigan teenager who was in The Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest teenager has finally found an affordable pair of shoes to fit his size-28 feet, thanks to a 3-D printer.
Broc Brown, who is 7 feet 8 inches tall, has cerebral gigantism (大脑性巨人症),which affects about one in every 15,000 people, the Jackson Citizen Patriot reported.
