As a student of International Relations and Chinese, I have been
living in China for the past three years. Tibet was a region I was eager to
travel to but its remoteness and my inability to find the right time to go
delayed my journey. After a few e-mails back and forth with my dad in the UK, who
doubted my choice, we decided to take a pause in our lives to begin our journey
early in the morning of July 3rd.
We started our journey on Saturday morning at the Guangzhou train
station. It was good thing that we had secured a couple of soft seats as we
were about to begin the journey. We started the first part of the journey,
admiring the mysterious mountains of south China. The next day it changed quite
suddenly to the dry landscape of central-west China as passed through Shaanxi
and Gansu Provinces. That evening we arrived in Qinghai Province, where we
hoped for the Xining-Lhasa train.
We were greeted on the train with Tibetan yogurt. The following
afternoon we arrived in Lhasa. Later that day, we started our journey to the
Qomolangma base camp by road from Lhasa. Along the way we stopped to admire the
beautiful and large river, the beautiful clouds and huge freshwater lake that
is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. All the beauty contributed
to making a picturesque countryside Tibet.
About a week later, we arrived at the Qomolangma base camp in the
afternoon. We were staying in a guest house just next to the base camp and then
we headed straight outside to see the wonderful Mt Qomolangma. The tip of the

The continuous increase in the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide
has had a deep and broad effect on how we live and interact with one another,
resulting in many changes that are likely to be long-lasting.
For example, to reduce contact during COVID-19, shaking hands, a standard style of greeting used by officials and businessmen has been replaced. In the US, the country hardest-hit by the outbreak, with over 36 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 610, 000 deaths, the top health official said such social gatherings should end, even when COVID-19 is over. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Dis-eases, told The Wall Street Journal, "I don't think we should ever shake hands ever again, to be honest with you." Neel Gandhi, a professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, told ESPN, a US sports broadcaster, "When we talk about transmission, the hands are the place that I focus on the most."
If such advice from health experts is followed, it will produce a big shift in human behavior. However, some people are finding alternative ways to greet one another at a time when direct contact is disapproved of. In South Korea, bowing deeply has become popular. In Australia, officials have suggested that people pat each other on the back instead of shaking hands.
Handshakes are just one form of contact that has largely ended during COVID-19, along with hugging and high-fives. As many people worldwide rebuild their social lives, experts are predicting that some degree of social contact will disappear for good.
Chen Xuefeng, deputy director of the Institute of Psychology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said, "In the post-COVID-19 era, people are likely to behave more discreetly for a while. They will pay more attention to themselves, such as caring for their health, spending more time alone, moving offline activities online, socializing less and saving more." Chen added, "This new way of life means that some industries where old habits are deep-rooted will face challenges in upgrading."
28.What does Anthony Fauci suggest doing in the face of COVID-19
A.Avoiding handshakes.
B.Ending social gatherings.
C.Moving offline activities online.
D.Using a standard style of greeting.
29.How does the author show the big change in human behavior in paragraph 3
A.By data. B.By example.
C.By experiment. D.By imagination.
30.What does the word "discreetly" in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Carefully. B.Confidently. C.Capably. D.Comically.
31.What is the text mainly about
A.Old unnecessary habits worldwide.

C.The disasters in the post-COVID-19 era.
D.The social contact changes caused by COVID-19.

A new study suggests lightning strikes that hit Earth after its formation may have un-locked a necessary chemical element to support the beginning of life. Researchers say the lightning may have supplied enough phosphorus(磷) to Earth during the first billion years after the planet was formed. Scientists believe life started on Earth about 3.5 to 4.5 billion years ago.
Phosphorus is an important element for the formation of life. It helps form cell structures and supports DNA, the material present in nearly all living organisms. But on early Earth, phosphorus is believed to have been first locked inside minerals that cannot dissolve in water.
Until now, it was widely believed that meteorites(陨石) that struck Earth were mainly responsible for the presence of "bioavailable" phosphorus. Some meteorites contain a phosphorus mineral called "Schreiber site" ,a highly reactive mineral that can form organic molecules.
But when lightning strikes the ground, it can create glassy rocks called "fulgurites" by superheating and sometimes vaporizing rocks on the surface. This process frees the phosphorus locked inside. As a result, these "fulgurites" can contain "Schreiber site", which can be dissolved in water, where life is thought to have formed.
The researchers say levels of phosphorus minerals caused by lightning strikes were found to have been higher about 3.5 billion years ago. The researchers think this was about the age of the earliest-known fossils widely accepted to be those of microorganisms. Scientists believe the earliest bacteria-like organisms were formed in Earth's early waters. But there is a debate over when this happened and whether it happened in warm and shallow waters or in deeper waters. New research does not completely cancel the theory that meteorites could have been an-other source of life-giving phosphorus. Meteor(流星)strikes around the time of the appearance of life are far less than thought a decade ago.
32.Where did the phosphorus first exist on early Earth
A.In meteors. B.In minerals. C.In lightening. D.In water.
33.What happens just when lightning strikes the ground
A.Life is born. B.Rocks become soil.
C.Phosphorus is released. D.Meteorites are broken.
34.Which of the following do scientists disagree about according to paragraph 5
A.The number of lightning strikes.
B.The age of the earliest-known fossils.
C.The time of the disappearance of life on Earth.
D.The depth of the earliest life forms on Earth in water.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.Life Might Have Begun from Three Sources
B.Life Needs an Important Substance to Get Started
C.Lightning May Have Helped Life Develop on Earth
D.Scientists Have Discovered the Earliest Meteor Strike
【答案】32.B

Activities to Help Children Develop Listening Skills
It is important for parents to help children from a young age
practice listening skills. 36. There are some things that you can do
to help children develop listening skills at home.

directions correctly, you can be sure that they have heard the directions
correctly. 37.
Play listening skill games with children. Ask children to close
their eyes or put their heads down on a desk. 38. Head Start, a

and "Can you hear water dripping in the sink " Ask children to
describe the sounds that they hear.
 39. Reading to children provides many benefits. For one
thing, they will see that you like reading. For another thing, they learn that
reading can be an exciting form of entertainment because books arouse their
imagination. So they will express a preference for reading.
Encourage children to think more. If you ask children to listen to
and participate in a story, they will also be able to practice their listening
skills. Ask what is going on in the story as you read. 40. When you
reach the end, ask how they feel about the story and what they like and dislike
about it. Don't stop with books, either. Discussing the story with children
contributes to the formation of children's listening skills.

C. Develop children's imagination.
D. Good listening skills will help children
all their life.

61.because;62.to find;63.to;64.extreme;65.which;66.detected;67.meaning;68.findings;69.prediction;70.first
根据后文“the force of gravity in a blackhole is so severe that nothing that goes in can come out”内容,可知是表原因,此处应用because引导表语从句。故填because。
manage to do sth.
in contrast to,固定短语,“与…… 故填to。
lies 100 million light years from Earth是非限制性定语从句,先行词blackhole I Zwicky 1在从句中作主语,应用关系代词which引导。故填which。

【答案】①删除 home前面的at ②Surprising →Surprisingly ③are →were ④excite →excitement ⑤worn →wearing ⑥what →where ⑦other →another ⑦在 attempted后面加 to ⑨these →that ⑩forgot →forget
结合句意,分析句子可知,主句中使用了一般过去时态,宾语从句“that we are going to the neighborhood park”中是要去做的事情,应使用过去将来时,应用were going to。故are改为were。
分析句子可知,“what my sister and I joyfully watched Dad move from one piece of equipment to other”是非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词the playground,关系词代替先行词在定语从句中作地点状语,表示“在操场上”,应使用关系副词where引 导该从句。故what改为where。
故other改为another。
attempt to do...
故these改为that。

Not every kid can be a professional athlete, but they can learn the
great life lessons from the following storybooks about sports.
Soccer Star
Age: 4-8
Young Paulo Marcelo Feliciano dreams of becoming a super soccer
player, but his little sister, to whom he teaches soccer moves every day,
shines after a key player's injury. Soccer Star teaches acceptance and
celebrates Brazil's diverse culture and the hope of the poor for better future.

need to be male to rule the cycling world.

The tip of the
mountain could be seen through clouds, astonishing us with its unbelievable

根据后文“the force of gravity in a blackhole is so severe that nothing that goes in can come out”内容,可知是表原因,此处应用because引导表语从句。故填because。
manage to do sth.
in contrast to,固定短语,“与…… 故填to。
lies 100 million light years from Earth是非限制性定语从句,先行词blackhole I Zwicky 1在从句中作主语,应用关系代词which引导。故填which。
