I know that it is the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and that it is one of the world’s most famous buildings.
Sydney Opera House
The photo is of the world famous Sydney Opera House, in Sydney, Australia. With a population of over five million people, Sydney is the capital of New South Wales, and the largest city in Australia. The native people have been living in the Sydney area for at least 30,000 years. However, the first Europeans visited there in 1770, and the first permanent European settlement in Australia was established there in 1788.
This settlement was a British penal colony. Criminals were sent to Sydney either in prison or after their prison sentence in
England was completed – many of these criminals were petty crime like theft or robbery, including a number of women and children. While for decades many of the newcomers to Australia were either convicts or their descendants, in time they were joined by hundreds of thousands of other Brits lured by the promise of farmland and a new start.
The Sydney Opera House itself is one of the most iconic architectural structures in the world, designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon (1918-
2008) in 1957, and is meant to look like either seashells or the sails of a ship. As Utzon’s original design was little more than a preliminary sketch, it took a number of years for the Opera House to be completed while architects and engineers tried to figured be completed. However, when the building was finally finished and opened to the public in 1973, it was immediately considered a masterpiece of modern design. Today, the Opera House is in constant use for operas, ballets, and concerts, and is a popular tourist attraction.

Tourist sites: The Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City, because these are iconic places that tell a lot about the Chinese culture.
Food and drinks: Jiaozi, because it is the most representative food for many Chinese people, especially in the north. Tea, as an old Chinese saying goes, “Firewood, rice, cooking oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, and the tea the seven necessities to begin a day.”
Ethnic minority groups: The Miao people love singing their life aloud; the Dong people live with their traditional wind and rain bridges that give people shelter when it rains. I really enjoyed staying among them and learning about their culture.
Clothes: The qipao, because it is such a beautiful dress, and so representative of the Chinese culture as a whole.

Pingyao Ancient City
Pingyao Ancient City, located in Shanxi, is known for its well-preserved traditional Chinese architecture and unique culture. Colorful Ming and Qing-style buildings, alleyways (窄巷), towering city walls, and lively shops are just a few of the things that visitors can expect to see in this ancient city.
The old city wall of Pingyao is one of the attractions that make this UNESCO World Heritage Site so essential. Pingyao’s city wall is about 10 meters high and its width (宽度) varies from 3 to 5 meters at the top. There are six gates into the walled city, one each on the north and south and two on the east and west sides.
The south gate is the most impressive one, and visitors should be sure not to miss this entrance. Outside the south gate, there is a square that offers a good chance of viewing and photographing the city wall and gate.
One of the best things to do in Pingyao is walk along the lanes of the old city. The area within the city walls is mostly pedestrianized and visitors can visit shops, enjoy snacks, and relax in a cafe. In the middle of the main street sits the unique city tower, which together with the old buildings along the street makes a beautiful photo of Pingyao.
