第一篇
Every Christmas, people in shopping malls, grocery stores and on street corners collie donations for the Salvation Amy's programs for those in need. And bell-ringers are volunteers helping collect donations. That probably doesn't seem like a big deal to most people, but I find it difficult - in fact, ridiculously hard" to ask people for anything, even though I quite enjoy helping others when they need a hand.
My friends will tell you I'm outgoing, independent, even adventurous. Yet, when I'm sick I'd rather stagger out of the door half-dead to buy some chicken soup than ask a friend or neighbor for help. When I sign up for a run to raise money for cancer, I donate the cash myself rather than asking others. The thought of asking a friend for a ride to the airport is way too stressful, even though I know the answer would be yes.
So, I decided one Christmas I would take a baby step in learning to ask. I'd do a few shifts (轮班) as a "bell-ringer" to see how it felt to ask perfect strangers to give.
I arrived early and tried to calm my nerves as I approached the man standing by the donation box. For weeks, I had prepared myself for this. I put the instruction sheet on my refrigerator and re-read it many times. But I could not have felt worse as I slipped on the Salvation Army vest (背心) and took my spot beside the donation box.
The man who had been a volunteer for a decade gave me some tips before he left. I thanked him and consciously tried to follow the tips. Stand (don't sit), smile, make eye contact, and don't ring the bell too loud or too often.
It felt awkward at first. My location on the second floor of shopping mall wasn't a busy spot, so I tried to smile and catch the eyes of every passerby. Most quickly glanced away. I worried I was making them feel guilty. I didn't like that at all.

第二篇
One summer afternoon, when I was about eight years of age, I was looking at a beautiful rainbow that, bending from the sky, seemed to be losing itself in a thick wood about a quarter of a mile distant.
"Do you know, Gracie," said my brother, who was just recovering from a severe illness, weak and tired, "that if you should go to the end of the rainbow, you would find there precious treasures "
"Is it truly so " I asked.
"Truly so," answered my brother, with a smile but a very serious face.
Now, I was a simple-hearted child who believed everything that was told to me; so, without another word, I rushed out toward the wood. My brother called after me as loudly as he was able to, but I did not take any notice of him.
I cared nothing for the wet grass, -on and on I ran. I was so sure that I knew just where that rainbow ended. But when I reached the cedars (雪松林), the end of the rainbow was not there! Abruptly I saw it shining down among the trees a little farther off; so on and on I struggled, through the thick bushes, till I came within the sound of a stream. I reached the bank of the stream, and I could see it a little way off on the other side. I crossed the stream on a fallen tree, and still ran on, though my muscles were aching and my knees shaking.
Suddenly I met in my way a large porcupine (豪猪). I ran away from him as fast as my tired feet would carry me. In my fright and hurry I forgot to keep my eye on the rainbow, and when, at last, I remembered and looked for it, it was nowhere in sight!
When I saw that it was indeed gone, I burst into tears, for I had lost all my treasures, and had nothing but muddy feet and a wet and torn dress. So I set out for home.

第三篇
Three years ago, I was offered a better job and went to work in a new clinic, a small hospital in Victor Harbor, an hour away from my house. My first day there was rushed, driving to the clinic and getting used to the different rules there.
In my worry and anxiety, and feeling a little unfamiliar in the new environment, I removed my three rings according to the rules: my wedding ring, a ring that belonged to my mother and one that was a gift from my husband. I put them in a wrinkled tissue(褶皱的纸巾) and placed them beside my computer.
During midday break, I ate my lunch at my desk and when I was finished, I hurriedly cleared away the waste, together with the wrinkle tissue paper into the rubbish bin. I went about my duties and my day went on well. I met new patients and felt that I had done a good job.
Driving home at the end of the day, just moments before I reached my house, I noticed that I was missing my rings. I felt the heat in my body rise, my cheeks burning red. I went inside and tried to calm down. I spent an hour or so making telephone calls, trying to locate my rings. The first people I called were my manager and colleagues, and they gave me a few contact numbers for the cleaners. I got in touch with a lady who managed the cleaning services for the clinic, and she told me that the bins had already been emptied and gone to the rubbish station.
Heartbroken, I knew nothing could be done now. I had lost my wedding ring and one of my most important rings—my mother's wedding ring. If I had not been so careless, all this would not have happened. With great sorrow and regret, I just sat there in my chair wondering what I should do.

As a teacher, my daily routine includes driving to a new school almost every day so I'm usually unable to predict the day's events, good or bad!
On one particular day, I was teaching in a very difficult class. Some of the schoolboys didn't finish their homework on time and that really annoyed me. I was managing behavior all morning and by lunch time, I knew I needed coffee to even consider surviving the afternoon. So on my lunch time, I drove to a nearby plaza to get a cup of coffee. There I had a wonderful time and forgot the unpleasant experience in the morning. Upon returning to the car, I realized I had locked my keys and my phone inside! I had about 15 minutes to get back to the school which was a good 4-or-5-minute drive away. I considered rushing back, but it was winter, and I thought a dirty fall on ice would only make the situation much worse.
So, I ran into a Mcdonaldns which was in the same plaza and asked the man at the counter to call me a cab. The man happened to be the manager of the restaurant. I briefly explained my situation to him, and I could tell by the look in his eyes, that he empathized(同情). He hurried to the back to use the phone while I paced in the restaurant. I had less than 10 minutes to get back to my school at this point.
The manager returned, only to tell me that the cab company had put him on hold and then the line got disconnected, and that he was now on hold again, but had not yet been able to request the cab yet My expression, I am sure, began to resemble (像)some combination of hopelessness and fear.

第五篇
Last summer when my family was road tripping to Montana we arrived in Great Falls late one night. The kids had fallen asleep in the car, so my husband went and checked in the hotel while I stayed with the kids. When he returned with the room keys, we woke up our children and took them out of the car, through the hotel, up the elevators and into our guest room. We kept the room dark, leaving only the entry light on, and quickly put the kids into bed hoping they'd drift back to sleep.
My husband went to put our waters in the mini fridge only to notice some beers. “That's strange”, he said and I agreed, but having discovered left -behind drinks in hotel fridges in the past I didn't think much about it. I figured the housekeepers had forgotten to check it. In the meantime, my husband ran to the store and I went into the bathroom to get ready for bed. As I washed my face I looked down to see cardboard beer containers in the trash. I felt my heart begin to pound. We were in someone else's room!
Now feeling panic, I checked the closet. Nothing. I then went to the dresser drawers. Nothing. My eyes scanned the door room's floor and there it was: A black bag that looked like one of ours. But it wasn't!
I immediately called the front desk and the waitress in charge responded with an “Oh, my God! This is not good!”
By now the kids were wide awake, jumping on the beds as I was trying to put all of our things back into our oversized suitcase. Just while we were packing our things, I heard someone was unlocking the door, which made my heart beat wildly.

第六篇
One day, my brother and I were alone in our apartment. The reason was that my parents had both gone for a ball party and had left me in charge of everything. I was doing my homework while my younger brother was watching television. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Ding-Dong! Ding-Dong! My younger brother had rushed to the door before I decided to answer the door. We both thought that our parents had come home. As a result, he unlocked the door and opened it.
Outside of the house stood a man who wore a black raincoat and black rubber boots. He looked no different from other people and he said that he was a salesman and asked politely if our mother or father was at home so he could talk with them.
Without any thinking, my brother said, “No." He asked if we would like to buy some comic books, which he was selling. I quickly explained to him that we were not supposed to buy anything without our parents' permission. However, it seemed that he was not willing to follow my advice and he had an intention to enter our house.
Then I realized something terrible would happen. As I was about to close the door, he forced his way into our house. He took out a knife and forced me to tie up my brother's hands with some rope which he took out from his pocket. I tied up his hands but I tied in a special way so my brother could untie himself as we often did. The man then tied my hands up and locked both of us in the kitchen.
Soon he went upstairs to search the bedroom for something valuable. I managed to teach my brother to untie the rope on his hands. He then untied me. I rushed to the telephone to call the police, but the line was dead.

When I arrived at 6 a m. in the large hospital kitchen, Rose was already checking name tags on the trays (托盘).
"Hi, I'm Janet." I tried to sound cheerful, although I already knew Rose's reputation for being impossible to work with. "I'm scheduled to work with you this week."
Rose stopped what she was doing and peered over her reading glasses. I could tell from her expression she wasn't pleased to see a student worker.
"What do you want me to do Start the coffee " I asked.
Rose coldly nodded and went back to checking name tags.
I filled the 40-cup pot with water and began making the coffee when Rose yelled, "That's not the way to make coffee." She stepped in and took over.
Nothing I did pleased her. All morning, her eagle eyes missed nothing and her sharp wordshurt.
Totally exhausted, I trudged the six blocks home late that June afternoon. As a third year university student working my way through school, I had never before met anyone like Rose.
Fighting back tears, I wrestled with my dilemma alone in my room. "What shall I do " The answer caught me completely by surprise. I needed to loveRose.
Working with Rose the next morning, I ignored the hurtful remarks thrown in my direction and did things Rose's way as much as possible. As I worked, I silently began to surround Rose with a warm blanket of love.
Over the next few days, an amazing thing began to happen. My focus shifted from what she was doing to me and I started seeing Rose as the hurting person she was. Then her icy tension began to melt away.
Throughout the rest of the summer, we had numerous opportunities to work together. Each time, she seemed truly happy to see me. Her bitterness gave way as she started opening up. As I worked with this lonely woman, I listened to her, something no one else had done. I learned that she was burdened by elderly parents who needed her care and her own health problems.
The days slipped by quickly as I finished the last several weeks of my summer job. I soon would be returning as a full-time university student and say goodbyeto Rose.

There is nothing more wonderful than the smell of the Adirondack air! It fills your lungs with purity and freshness that motivates a love for living. Every weekend in the summer, my father would plan a trip from our home in upstate New York to one of the splendid lakes nestled among the tall pines and thick forests of the Adirondack Mountains. There were no favorites; instead, each lake was an adventure to explore and enjoy.
One trip that I will never forget was a visit to Oneida Lake at the foothills of the mountains. After arriving at the lake beach area, we emptied the car of our picnic supplies, towels, blankets and beach chairs, carrying them through a wooded path that seemed like a forever distance. Once we located the perfect picnic spot, my dad, sister and I ran into the splashing waves with our beach ball, leaving my mother behind to" "set up". In the lake, we immediately played "monkey in the middle" for at least an hour, and then after retiring the ball, my father let us dive from his knee, throwing us up in the air and turning us over like thick pancakes on a grill. This timeless game went on and on as our begging for "more, more" never stopped.
When we finally tired of our games, my dad stopped to watch my older sister. She loved synchronized swimming (花样游泳) and started practicing skills that her team used in competition. My father, being an athlete himself, was absorbed in her show. I was sad that no one was playing with me; no one was watching me. I became bored and jealous watching her show off. I was in sulk (愠怒)and decided to swim by myself and try some of my sister's skill son my own in deeper water, far from both of them. The waves were getting stronger, but I didn't care. I just wanted to do what my sister could do so that I could catch my father's attention.

Zahra was only a girl of 8 when she heard Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Ali. All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money. Only a very costly surgery could save him now but they couldn't afford the operation. Their faith in his survival was fading away. One day, Zahra heard Daddy say to her tearful Mother with desperation, "Only a miracle (奇迹)can save him now. "
Zahra went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jar from the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. One dollar and eleven cents! Carefully placing the coins back in the jar, she slipped out and made her way six blocks to a Drug Store. She waited patiently for the pharmacist (药剂师) to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Zahra twisted her feet to make a noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound. No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!
"And what do you want " the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen for ages," he said without waiting for a reply to his question.
"Well, I want to talk to you about my brother," Zahra answered back in the same annoyed tone. "He's really, really sick and I want to buy a miracle. What's the price of it "
"I beg your pardon " said the pharmacist.
"My brother has something bad growing inside his head. Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost "
"We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you," the pharmacist said, softening a little.

Our team was playing softball against a team that we were tied with for third place. I was toughing out the position of catcher, and we were winning. However, my knees started to not feel so tough. In the bottom of the second round they had started to hurt.
I've had a bad injury in my knees, and I just couldn't take any more abuse to them that day. So I limped(瘸着走) over to the manager, who is also my dad, and told him that my knees were hurting.
I asked if he could have a back-up catcher for the rest of the game. He agreed and told me to put down the catcher's gear(设备).
The coach overheard this conversation and came running over. I could tell that he was mad at my dad's decision because he was steaming like a whistling teapot.
He yelled at my dad, "Are you crazy It's not go to do her any good!" My dad explained to the coach about my knees.
"So what!" The coach rudely yelled at my dad.
Then he furiously walked over to me. His face was red, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.
"You'd better get that gear back on and get back out there right now. If you don't, I swear this will be the worst softball season of your life! Every game! Every game you complain about your stupid knees! If your knees keep hurting so much, I don't understand why you even play! You certainly aren't even good enough!" he screamed at me.

Frey grabbed his bat and glove, and raced out of the door towards the Jack's. Summer vacation just began. The boys planned to play baseball every day, so they could make the team in the following semester.
Jack was waiting outside for Frey. "What are you doing Where's your stuff " Frey asked, lifting his bat onto his shoulder. Jack shook his head, "I have to clean Mr. Willow's garage before I can go. With his broken arm, he can't do it himself. My mom always volunteers me to help the Willow's. She thinks they're kind of old and can't afford to hire a cleaner."
To get the work done earlier, Frey offered to help. The boys went down the block to the Willow's and got started. They found a couple of brooms. Before they swept, they put boxes scattered around the garage floor on shelves. As Jack put a big box on a shelf, it fell off and with it fell an envelope. He picked it up. It wasn't sealed, so he opened it. Out of his surprise, there were several one hundred dollar bills inside.
"You've got to see this." He pulled out the bills and showed Frey, "It just fell down when the box fell. There's got to be several hundred dollars here." Jack looked past Frey to thegaragedoor and continued, "Nobody's here. If we take some, I bet no one will ever know." Before his voice died away, Jack had already drawn out one bill and stuffed it into his pocket.
Frey frowned and shook his head. "Are you crazy That's stealing." Jack ignored him and protested, "Well, I do a lot of chores for them and don't get paid. It's not really stealing. It's kind of payment for my hard work. And one hundred will do for a bat and glove inIgo's Sports Store". With this, Jack put the rest money back.
Frey was about to grab the money from Jack's pocket when they heard a voice, "Hello, e in for a chocolate cake! Mrs. Willow made one for you." Mr. Willow walked into the garage.

My name is Franklin G. Takata, but everyone around here calls me "Find-It Frankie."
Let me tell you something: you don't get a nickname like that overnight. I've been finding things since before I can remember. Mom said it all began when I started teething as a baby.
And when I turned five, I got a partner, my dog Munchy. For my fifth birthday, my parents let me pick him out at the animal shelter. When we opened his cage, the first thing he did was dig into my pocket and find the candy I had been saving for later. I guess you could say I saw a bit of my younger self in him.
Anyway, Munchy and I were playing in the yard one Thursday afternoon when Mom approached us with the case in question. Her diamond ring was missing, and she wanted us to find it. If I had known how tricky the case would be, I might have hesitated. But I said then, "There's nothing we can't find, guaranteed!"
I asked Mom the first question I always ask when something goes missing: "Where do you last remember seeing it "
"I was m the kitchen baking cookies," Mom answered. "I took off my ring and placed on the small shelf above the counter. But then your aunt called, and when I came back from talking to her, the ring was gone!"
"Hmm. Well, it couldn't have disappeared all by itself I said. "Munchy, let's go take a closer look." Munchy led the way to the kitchen. There was no sign of the ring on the shelf or the counter, but tiny paw prints in the spilled flour told me who might have seen it last.
"The cat! I exclaimed. "See those prints Mr. Jingles must have been playing with the ring and knocked it onto the floor!" On my hands and knees, I searched all over the floor for the ring. No luck.
"Munchy, you're up! Go find Mr. Jingles." Munchy's ears popped up. He never passed up an opportunity to annoy the cat.

As a country music song goes, "She's a wild one with an angel's face. " That is my younger sister, Lulu. When I think of her, I think of trying to tame a wild horse.
It is hard to find words to describe my relationship with Lulu. "All-out nuclear warfare" could not interpret it quite exactly. The irony is that we are very much alike: we share the hot-tempered and fast-forgiving personality.
Speaking of personalities, the Chinese Zodiac ( 属相) describes Lulu and me perfectly.
People born in the Pig Year are "stubborn" and "tough" and often "fly into anger," although they
"Never harbor a grudge (记仇)" as they are honest and warm-hearted. That is Lulu and I exactly, with an age gap of twelve years.
I had my first face-off with Lulu when she was about five. It was a freezing winter afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut. Mum and Dad were at work. Babysitting Lulu at home, I decided that it would be the perfect time to introduce Lulu to the piano as I was in the learning process myself. Excited about working together — with her brown curls, round eyes, and China doll face, Lulu was desperately cute – I put her on the piano bench, on top of some comfortable pillows. I then demonstrated how to play a single note with a single finger, and asked her to do the same. A small request, but Lulu refused, preferring instead to smash at many notes at the same time with two open palms. When I asked her to stop, she smashed harder and faster. When I tried to pull her away from the piano, she began yelling, crying, and kicking angrily.
Fifteen minutes later, she was still yelling, crying, and kicking, and I had had it! Avoiding her blows, I dragged the screaming demon (恶魔) to our back door, and threw it open. The wind chill was six degrees below zero, and my own face hurt from just a few seconds' exposure to the icy air.

At the end of the class, Mr. Smith announced our assignment for the next Monday was to talk about someone we were grateful to instead of a book report Upon hearing it, I couldn't help complaining to Mareya that I was so nervous about having to talk in front of the whole class
"You've been in at least three plays," Mareya pointed out. "If you don't get stage fright in front of those big audiences, why are you bothered by a few kids in our class "
It was true, but in a play you were part of a group. I shook my head. Plus, there were so many people I was grateful to. There was no way I could possibly pick just one. Plus, even if I picked one, I'd have no idea what to say. Plus, even if I figured out what to say, I was a million-percent positive I'd mess up if I tried to say it out loud! I'd be standing there with everyone staring at me, waiting for wordsto come out of my mouth. "Oh, my goodness!" I pulled my sweatshirt hood(兜帽)over my face, put my hands over my ears and said, "I don't want to talk about it!"
But one thing about really good friends who knew you really well was that they didn't always do exactly what you asked them to. Mareya could be pretty pushy talking of being helpful. She scribbled(漆草地写)something on a piece of paper, lifted my hood, and smiled. She'd drawn a funny elephant with the word BREATHE coming out of its trunk.
"This is Franky, the 'everything's going to be all right' elephant." Mareya giggled. She held the picture up to her ear and asked, "What's that you say, Franky You think my friend Arizona should come over to my house this weekend so we can work on our talks together

The Wilsons were having dinner. The food was left from their Thanksgiving dinner two days before: turkey soup and turkey meat mixed with potatoes. Eleven-year-old Angelina asked, "Are we having turkey ice cream, too " Her father replied, "Angelina, have you forgotten that I had no job for a whole year Now I have work again. You should be very thankful." "I'm sorry I said that about the turkey! But unless I get a new dress, I will not look good for the Christmas Festival." Angelina murmured.
The Festival was the winter holiday celebration of a group she belonged to: the Avalon Girls' Service Club. They wrote cheerful cards for hospital patients. They cooked meals for the homeless. But the Christmas Festival was different. The girls wore party clothes and many people came to see them perform. Angelina had only a plain gray dress that she had worn to the event last year. And now it was a little too short. Angelina appealed to her parents to buy one for her, a beautiful red dress in Forbes' Store. Her mother sighed, “Well, we cannot buy it. We have to be careful. You never know when I might lose my job.”
All hope was not gone. There was a sign in the Forbes store window that said "layaway (分期付款)" . Angelina pulled ten worn dollar bills from her coat pocket. She ran to the store and begged the salesperson, Mrs. Harding, to hold 'her' dress for her. "Ok. But you must come back in two weeks to pay the rest." Angelina felt like jumping into the air. She was so happy that she told Mrs. Harding about the Avalon Service Club's work and its Christmas party.
Then, Angelina shook and suffered in the cold wind looking for work. Finally, Angelina got a job making new clothing for dolls. Angelina was excellent at sewing. Sure enough, the dolls' dresses turned out beautiful. She got twenty dollars. Still, she was far from having enough money for her dress. She felt helpless as the final payment date arrived.
She returned sadly to Forbes' Store, "I don't have enough money for the dress." Then she saw Mrs. Harding's eyes were red. She looked like she had been crying. She said the store was closing and she was losing her job.

第一篇
Para 1:
I was starting to wonder whether this bell-ringing thing was for me when a lady walked purposefully toward me. I stood stiff, looked her in the eyes, smiled and gently rang my bell. "Merry Christmas!" I greeted her with an awkward smile. I tried to calm my nerves, but obviously there was a touch of nervousness in my manner. The lady seemed to sense my feelings and returned my smile with a tremendous one of her own. "Well, this won't do. We can't have this sitting empty," she said as she slipped a twenty-dollar bill into the donation box. I thanked her for the donation, and I could feel a ripple of excitement ran through my body.
Para 2:
For the rest of my shift, I became relaxed and were impressed by different people coming to me. One woman shared how her brother had been helped with addiction; others told how they look forward to helping the Christmas donation campaign each year. Quite a few parents gave their small children coins to drop in. There was a lesson for me in this little venture into uncomfortable territory. It has given me a great appreciation for the good feeling that comes with giving, not just for me but for everyone. So, it follows that asking for help is not such a bad thing. It is just another side of living in a caring community.
第二篇
Paragraph 1:
But I soon found that my troubles had only begun. I lost my way! I was shivering with cold, with my empty stomach rumbling. The night wind howled ruthlessly, nameless creatures murmured in the dark and the moonlight shone weakly on the ground. Filled with fright, I dragged my exhausted body inching forward. Eventually, I sat beside the stream, my arms and legs aching. Remorsing for my simple-minded behavior, thinking about the missing rainbow and treasures, I burst into tears again.
Paragraph 2:
At last I heard my own name called. The voice came from distance, but I could figure out it was my brother. "Here! Here!" I shrieked at the top of my lung. My weak brother made his way to me, his eyes filled with concern. A sense of palpable relief enveloped me. I threw myself to him and hugged him tightly. Following him, I arrived at home safe and sound finally. Now, it becomes an indispensable memory in my childhood. (143 words)

Paragraph 1:
After two hours or so, I received a most amazing phone call. The call was from another cleaner called Jerry, who was working in the rubbish station nearby. He told me that he accidentally found the three rings in the tissue when he was sorting the rubbish. So immediately, he called the lady managing the cleaning services
for the clinic. The lady told him my story and gave him my telephone number. He rung me to relieve my anxiety.
Paragraph 2:

the dustbin station near my clinic, where the cleaner Jerry was waiting for me. I expressed my greatest thanks to him for his kindness and I did want to give him some money as a gift for his behavior. However, he refused my reward, saying that it was his duty and responsibility to give back the loss to the owners. Deeply moved, I thanked him again. At last, I got my important rings back.

Without a thought, the manager grabbed his coat and offered to drive me to the school. Without hesitation, I followed him into his car and made it back into my classroom with 2 minutes to spare before the bell! Upon arriving at the school, I thanked this man endlessly.
The manager's calm demeanor and kind nature made me think he was probably a wonderful manager to
work for, and also a wonderful human being to have on this earth. This experience makes me realize that out of every seemingly hopeless situation, there is the opportunity for acts of kindness to transpire, which can have an unimaginable impact on those who receive them.

Paragraph 1: The door opened and in came a young man. After seeing us packing our things into our suitcase, he was shocked and angry. I tried to explain what had happened. However, he wouldn't listen to me. He talked with me in a loud voice, making my kids frightened. The kids began to cry. Just at that time my husband returned, with some things bought from the store in his hands. Thinking the young man was unfriendly, he started to quarrel with him.
Paragraph 2: I didn't know how to deal with the matter but luckily the waitress arrived out of breath. Watching the waitress, all of us stopped talking. She explained that her mother became badly ill last night, which contributed to her fault. After explaining the reason to us, the waitress burst into tears. The young man, my husband and I, even my kids, tried to comfort the waitress. We said sorry to each other. The special experience in someone else's room made me realize forgiveness is a kind of virtue.
第六篇
The doors were all locked from the outside and what's worse, I did not have the keys. But luckily, the man forgot to lock the kitchen window. Both my brother and I managed to get out of the house through the window and we ran to the nearby police station and asked them for help. The police arrived at our house as soon as quickly. And as a result, the man was caught.
Just at the same time our parents came back home. The police asked my family to go to the police station. It was there the police told us that the man was a wanted robber pretending to sell comic books and they have been trying to catch him for a long time. The police praised my brother and me for our bravery. After we went back home, I told my parents the whole story about the robbery. They were thankful that we were not hurt but they scolded me for not stopping my brother from opening the door to strangers. I learned a lesson on safety and responsibility.

One day, while I was working alone in one of the hospital kitchens, Rose entered the room. Instead of her blue uniform, she was wearing street clothes. I looked at her in surprise. "Aren't you working today " "I've got another job and won't be working here any more," she said as she walked over and gave me a quick hug. "1 just came to say goodbye. You are the one person I will truly miss. You are the one person I wish I could take with me." Then she turned abruptly and walked out the door.
Although I never saw Rose again. I still remember her vividly. That summer, I learned a lesson I've never forgotten. The world is full of people like Rose: annoying, demanding, unlovable on the outside, yet hurting inside. Just as the saying goes, every rose has its thorn, and every man's character has a part of you that you can't stand. I've found that a warm blanket of love is the best way to nurture a rose.

As I took a breath to try a dive, a huge wave swallowed me. I choked and then a huge undercurrent swept me deeper beneath the waves. The very thought of dying filled me with a mad panic. I kicked my legs wildly, losing any hope for a breath. I remember trying to stand up, but the sandy bottom had disappeared. As I came up searching for the surface, struggling for oxygen, sputtering to clear my lungs, I felt a firm grasp on my arm and a pull to safety.
It was my dad! He hugged me tightly and carried me back to a place where I could stand. There was no scolding, just a big hug and smile because he knew I was all right. He had been watching me all along! He had never taken his eye off me, even as he had the other eye on my sister. He had protected me. Being told by someone that you are loved is great, but experiencing that love is awesome. Without his watching over me, without his loving me, I would not be the strong woman I am today.

The coach stormed off, leaving me frozen at the spot. With the coach's words echoing in my mind, I was lost in thought as to whether I should continue or simply give up. Faced with the dilemma, I nearly split myself into two parts, not knowing what to do next. Just at that moment, I saw my coach come back again. To my astonishment, he apologized to me for his harsh words but added that he had seen a lot of potential in me and would feel sorry for me if I gave up easily. It suddenly dawned on me that my coach was trying to push me to challenge myself and overcome obstacles in life.
Greatly encouraged, I put the catcher's gear back on again. I gritted my teeth and made every endeavor to score the goal, regardless of my hurting knees. With sweat soaking my T-shirt, I, together with my team members, eventually won the third place. We jumped up and down, yelling with excitement. My coach and dad also strode briskly towards me and congratulated me on this unbelievable triumph. Exhausted yet grateful, I threw myself into my coach's arms, tears welling up my eyes. It was exactly at that time that I realized success came from perseverance.

At the sight of Mr. Willow, Jack and Frey froze in shock." Ugh…sure, Mr. Willow," said Jack," We'll finish up and be right in." "Mr. Willow's kind words reminded Jack of the couple's efforts to pay for the work he did. A surge of guilt swept over him, "How could I have that evil thought!" So, the moment Mr. Willow went back to his house, Jack put the money back. The boys finished cleaning and went to the house. They had big slices of chocolate cake and two glasses of milk x k w each.
When they were about to leave, Mr. Willow handed Jack a brand new bat and glove." This is for you. Your mom said this is something you'd like. We try to find little ways to show our appreciation for what you have done for us." Seeing the bat and glove, Jack felt a warm blush rise to his cheeks. "Th…thanks so much. I love them!" Outside, Frey put his hand on Jack's shoulder, "See, you not only have a clear conscience, but the bat and glove you want in Igo's Sports Store."

Munchy immediately located the cat asleep on the sofa. I rushed over and lifted up an angry Mr. Jingles while Munchy searched the cushions and the rest of the living room. But the ring wasn't there. It seemed that the ring had disappeared as if by magic. Munchy and I returned to the kitchen. "It must be the cat. I just don't know what the cat did with it," I groaned, hanging my head. Noticing my frustration, Mom gave me a pat on the back as encouragement and handed me a warm cookie she had just baked.
Gloomily, I took a bite of the cookie but stopped when I felt something hard. It was ring-shaped and it was very hard. "I find it!" I exclaimed with wild excitement, spitting bits of cookie into the sink. Slowly, I pulled the diamond ring from my mouth, "Tada! There it is! Now I see what happened, "I said proudly. "The cat knocked the ring into the dough. And then it was accidentally baked into a cookie!" I handed the ring back to Mom. She smiled as she washed it and dried it with a towel. "Truly, there's nothing 'Find-It Frankie' can't find, absolutely guaranteed!"

But I was determined to teach the little wild one a lesson. "You can't stay in the house if you don't listen to me," I said sternly. Instead of being obedient, Lulu stepped outside, facing me in a challenging way. A dull dread began seeping through my body — the little one was wearing only her sweater and tights. "Okay, you've decided to behave," I said quickly. "Come in now." However, Lulu shook her head with a stubborn look in her eyes. "Don't be silly, Lulu." I was panicking. "It's freezing. You're going to get e in now."
Lulu's teeth were clicking repeatedly together because of cold, but she shook her head again. It suddenly dawned on me that I had underestimated Lulu. She would rather freeze to death than give in. My mind racing, I changed tactics immediately, begging and bribing Lulu to come back into the house. When Mum and Dad arrived home, they found Lulu contentedly soaking in a hot bath, dipping a biscuit in a steaming cup of hot chocolate, desperately cute. Anyway, I love Lulu, a similar wild one with an angel's face.

And that was exactly what happened. Reluctantly, I inched my way into Mareya's room. I sank into the chair, not knowing what to do. Maeya suggested that we pick one of the persons I appreciated first. My mind raced quickly and people's names flooded in. I finally chose one Then Mareya encouraged me to write down what the person did moved me. Finally, with Mareya's help, I even read it out aloud. But at night, I tossed and turned, thinking there must be something important ignored by me.
On Monday morning, however, I decided to talk about Mareya. Yes, it dawned on me that I had always ignored Mareya even though we spent so much time together. The memories that Mareya constantly encouraged and comforted me crowded into my mind. And it was also Mareya who created Franky, the lovely elephant to help me overcome my fear. I even didn't need to write down my gratitude because the words just poured out as my eyes fell on her. After my speech, she came up to me and firmly said " That's what friends do!”

Suddenly, Mrs. Harding said she would pay the rest of the money so Angelina could have it. “Your club always does good work. I would like you to have this dress for your Festival.” Angelina thought how much she wanted the red dress. But she remembered how sad her father had felt during that long year when he had no work. She chose her words carefully, “That is very good of you, Mrs. Harding. But you will need all your money until you get another job.” Angelina expressed thanks and closed her hand around the worn dollar bills Mrs. Harding returned to her. With that, she said goodbye and ran out of the store into the cold street.
Outside, Angelina saw a man who looked like Santa Claus was asking people for money to help poor people. Angelina stood still for a moment on the snowy sidewalk. Then, quite suddenly, she gave the man dressed as Santa Claus several dollars. “Mrs. Harding is not the only one who wants to help other people.” Just as suddenly she decided that maybe she would buy some material to add length to her old gray wool dress. And she started to plan how she would sew bright red ribbons along the neckline. Who knew, maybe she could look good at the festival after all. But, in any event, she would have fun. After all, it was Christmas time.
