My parents are never happy with me. They are always criticizing(批评) my clothes, my hair and the music I listen to. They hate my friends' looks and they keep complaining(抱怨) when I go with them. I'm not allowed to stay out as late as my friends do, so I can't have any fun. My parents only seem to care about my school marks. Though I love them, sometimes I feel we live in different worlds. If they love me, can't they understand me How can I make them understand me
Angel
Dear Angel,
Your problem is common to both teenagers and parents. Don't worry, because it is natural.
You see, your parents have grown up at a different time and they have different experiences. So they think some things are strange, but you find the same things common. For example, the music you like may sound like noise to them. Your parents love you, so they think they must protect you from whatever they find strange. On the other hand, you don't want to be different from other teenagers, so you feel that your parents restrict you.
I think you should talk about this problem with your parents. Try to explain to them what you want and make them know they can believe in you. Sooner or later, they will find you are a responsible(有责任心的) person and they will give you more freedom(自由).

Are you having a hard time at school Does your little brother or sister make you angry Do your parents never understand you Write to Andy and ask for advice.
Dear Andy,
My sister really makes me angry! She's always going into my room and taking my things without asking. I really wish she wouldn't. My room should be private! When I try talking to my sister, she never listens to me. So I lose my temper every time and then we argue a lot. I've asked my parents to put a lock on my door, but they said they wouldn't buy one. What should I do
Elena
Dear Elena,
The first thing you should do is to talk to your parents on your own about the situation. You could advise that they talk to your sister if you can't keep your cool when you talk to her. You and your sister should respect each other and try harder to keep peace. She shouldn't have taken your things without telling you, but you shouldn't lose your temper every time you talk to her. When she makes you feel angry, try counting to ten in your head or leave the room calmly.

Is there something wrong with me

Dear Peter,
I'm happy to hear from you and I miss you, too.
As for your trouble, there is no need to worry about it. Little kids often run around wearing nothing and feel natural about it. But as you get older, you care more about your body and want to have your own room. So it's normal to feel shy when taking off your clothes at the doctor's office. But your doctor need to examine (检查) you to make sure if you are healthy.
To make you more comfortable, you can ask your mom or dad to come into the examine room with you. You can also ask for a gown (长袍). Most doctors' offices have these gowns for patients (病人). So just relax, and your doctor can examine you better to keep you in good health.

I was late for work sometimes and that made my boss (老板) very angry. My husband (丈夫) lived in another city and we met twice a month. Sometimes we had bad fights. I felt terrible. But stopping hard times was not easy.
I usually took a bus to work, sometimes by subway. One day, in order not to be late again, I took a taxi.
To kill time, I talked with the driver. “Where are you from?” I asked. “Canada. I came here 25 years ago,” he answered. Then I asked him how long he had been a driver. “A month,” he said. He also told me his twelve year old daughter was disabled and that she did poorly at school.
He wanted to make her better but he didn't have money to cure her. So he had to be a driver. I listened to him carefully. Suddenly (突然), I got an idea. I gave some tickets for comedies to him. I like watching comedies in my free time, especially in bad times. I advised him to take his daughter to watch them. He smiled and shook my hand. Then he drove away.
I called my husband, telling him his love made me a better person. I made peace with him.
My little act of kindness was just to give away some tickets for comedies. I didn't change his life. But he surely changed my life.
