Dandan noodles are a famous dish from well-known Sichuan cuisine. But Li Hongkai, a famous chef in Zigong City, took the dish to a new level and brought it to international fame.
His golden thread noodles were recognized by Guinness World Records as the thinnest handmade noodles in 2007, which have won the hearts of customers. The dough is so thin that one can read the newspaper through it. The thinnest noodles can go through the eye of a needle at once. His noodles don't get mushy in boiling water, but they are easy to melt in one's mouth. Despite their extraordinary characteristics, there is nothing special about the ingredients, But Li has a secret weapon: 17 years of practice.
Since 1990, he has got up at 4 o'clock in the morning to prepare the dough. As a beginner, Li slept on the restaurant's chairs to save time. After several years, he learned to control his body strength, which is necessary for the slicing techniques. He also developed his own kneading techniques and improved the recipe. Years in the kitchen had paid off. His concoction(调制品) was first acknowledged by the World’s Association of Chefs' Societies, when he titled six noodles through the eye of a needle in 1994. In the following years, he continued to polish his skills and won several cooking competitions.
After his golden thread noodles became popular, Li received many offers overseas. The restaurant he used to work for in Beijing also wanted him back with a handsome salary. But he decided to stay in his hometown and develop the native Salt Gang's dishes. “From my experience of working in large cities, most customers prefer genuine Sichuan snack," said Li.

The sonnet(十四行诗) was introduced into English poetry by Sir Thomas Wyatt the Elder and Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, during the first half of the sixteenth century. It originated, however, in Italy three centuries earlier, with the earliest examples known being those of Giacomo da Lentini, a Sicilian poet. The form was taken up by the two most famous poets of the Italian Renaissance, Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarch, and indeed the latter is regarded as the master of the form.
The Petrarchan sonnet form in English poetry includes fourteen lines. Each line is ten syllables long and divided into five pairs of syllables. In each pair, the first syllable is unstressed and the second stressed. This can be seen if we look at the first line of one of William Wordsworth's sonnets, “After-Thought”: “I thought of Thee, my partner and my guide". If we break down this line into its syllabic parts, we can see the five pairs and the stress pattern (in this example each stressed syllable is underlined), thus: “I thought/ of Thee/my part/ner and/ my guide.”
The rhyme scheme for the Petrarchan sonnet is equally as strict. The poem is generally divided into two parts, the octave (8 lines) and the sestet (6 lines).
Early on, however, English poets began to vary and experiment with this structure. The first major development was made by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, and was taken up and perfected by William Shakespeare. The Shakespearean sonnet also has fourteen lines with each line containing five pairs of syllables, but rather than the division into the octave and sestet, the poem is made up of three quatrains (四行诗) and a final rhyming couplet(对句).And each quatrain has its own rhyme scheme; thus a Shakespearean sonnet would rhyme abab cdcd efef gg. Such a structure naturally allows poets greater freedom to develop ideas.
These, then, are the two standard forms of the sonnet in English poetry, but it should be recognized that poets rarely follow rules exactly and a number of other sonnet types have been developed.
28. What can we learn about the sonnet

D. Dante Alighieri wrote the best sonnets in Italy.

A. The/Form remains/the Function/never dies.
B. The/Form remains/the Function/never dies.
C.The Form/remains/the Func/tion ne/ver dies.
D.The Form/remains/the Func/tion ne/ver dies.
30. What is a major feature of the Shakespearean sonnet
A. It can be divided into four parts.
B. Its quatrains are usually stressed.
C.Its rhyme scheme can change freely.
D. It contains more syllables than the Petrarchan sonnet.
31. What would be the best title for the text
A.A group of great sonnet poets
B.The unique structure of sonnets
C. Two major forms of English sonnets
D. The basic rules of writing English sonnets

What if your smartphone or laptop starts charging as soon as you walk in the door Scientists have developed a specially-built room that can conduct energy to a variety of electronic devices within it without plugs or batteries.
It’s a custom test room of about 18 cubic meters, built from conductive aluminum(铝) panels with a metal pole running down the middle. When the scientists ran an electric current through the walls and pole following a set pattern, it generated two separate magnetic(磁的) fields: one that fills the center of the room and the other that covers the corners, thus allowing any devices within the space to charge.
By carrying out tests, scientists found their method could deliver 50 watts of power throughout the room, firing up all devices they tested. Without safeguards, running currents through the room's metal walls would typically fill it with two types of waves: electric and magnetic. This presents a problem, because electric fields can produce heat in biological tissues and pose a danger to humans. So the team built capacitors, devices that store electric energy, in the walls. “H limits the safe magnetic fields to the room volume while limiting risky parts to all the components built in the walls,” lead author Takuya Sasatani explains.
The scientists also tested the room's safety, and the result showed the absorption of energy would remain well below acceptable limits. “We're not saying this technology is safe under all circumstances--we're still exploring, " says study co-author Alanson Sample. “But it shows us that there's still much area to explore.”
But applying the technology is still far in the future. It's just too burdensome to put aluminum sheets all over the walls-that benefit doesn't make sense yet. “We've just developed a brand-new technique. Now we have to figure out how to make it practical," Sample says. Meanwhile, scientists hope to improve the efficiency of power conduction and remove spots that the charge does not reach.
32. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A. What the room looks like.
B.How the special room works.
C.How electric currents are generated.
D.What the technology was developed for.
33.What are the capacitors used to do
A.Protect people from harm. B.Measure magnetic field.
C.Stop devices from heating. D.Produce electric power.
34. What is Sample's attitude to the technology
A. Optimistic. B. Cautious. C .Doubtful. D. Content.
35.What does the underlined word “burdensome” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Firm. B. Adequate. C .Optional. D. Difficult.

Losing ourselves in the chaos of daily life has become a lot more common for so many people around the world. So people often ignore an important thing-healthy eating habits. 36 In order to fight against these problems, we highly recommend mindful eating.
Eating with your non-dominant hand is a great way to stop you from overeating. As this isn't something the brain is used to, it'll force you to slow down and thus allow you to be a lot more conscious of the food you are eating.37
It's so common for people to eat on the move between their busy schedules. 38 Yet many of us still do it. Eating on the run and swallowing food without chewing it well can result in indigestion. Chew each bite of food up to 30 times before swallowing.
When it comes to eating, you should give your undivided attention to the food you eat, which means you should turn off any electronic device. 39 Technological devices should not be a distraction(使人分心的事)from any mindful eating practices. So while eating, be sure the TV is off and keep away from your cellphone.
40_ Sometimes, you rush through the day and only eat when the opportunity arises. Always make sure you are on a chair while eating your meals; otherwise you are less likely to truly appreciate the food on your plate. One part of mindful eating is about doing nothing else while you're eating.
A.You should sit down and eat.
B.Don't multitask while eating.
C.This is never a good eating habit.
D. You're accustomed to eating while moving.
E.This tip applies to nearly everyone in this day and age.
F. It's also an effective way for those wanting to lose weight.
G. This can lead to weight gain and even physical and mental illness.
