What would you say if we told you that you could learn to speak a new language in only 7 days Pretty unbelievable right But how could it be To find out, we spoke to David—one of our brave Babbel learners—to see how the Babbel app successfully got him speaking Norwegian(挪威语) in just one week.
How much time did you learn each day
I didn’t need to give my entire life over to learning Norwegian. Each Babbel lesson takes only 15 minutes, and I set myself the achievable aim of finishing three Babbel lessons daily. This took only 45 minutes each day.
How did the Babbel app help you learn so quickly
The Babbel app has a course plan for beginners that taught me how to make sentences in Norwegian within the first few days. Then I was able to personalise(个性化) my learning by selecting single-topic lessons on eating, drinking, music, culture, travelling and so on. This allowed me to quickly enlarge my vocabulary!
“After 7 days I was able to introduce myself in Norwegian, talk about my hobbies and interests, and most importantly, communicate with a native Norwegian speaker in a real conversation and I could even play a joke or two!”
Would you introduce this app to others
Certainly! Babbel has 14 languages to choose from so if you’re thinking about brushing up on your German for a business trip, or learning a bit of Portuguese(葡萄牙语) for next year’s summer vacation, you’ll be happy to hear that you only need an app, 7 days of learning to get you conversational(健谈的).
21.The Babbel app is used for people to .
A.learn languages B.do business
C.speak with natives D.plan a vacation
22.How did the Babbel app help David learn quickly
A It took him little time every day.
B.It provided him with 14 languages.
C.It gave him daily grammar practice.
D.It offered lessons according to his needs.
23.The example of David is used in the passage to show that .
A.hard work matters a lot B.Babbel app really helps
C.Norwegian is easy to learn D.Babbel app sells well

)Today teenagers are using more and more smart phones. They spend too much time in shopping, chatting, playing games and so on. Many of them cannot stop using smart phones to help with their study. Overuse of smart phones will make students too lazy to think and write. Some of them even forget how to write Chinese characters by hand. Teachers and parents are very worried about it.
In order to draw people’s attention to the problems above, in 2013 CCTV held the first Chinese Characters Dictation Competition. About 200 students from 32 teams took part in it. They stood on the stage to write down Chinese characters by dictation. Lu Jialei, a 14-year-old girl from Zhejiang, got first place.
Since then, the competition has been popular among teenagers. Many people are interested in this kind of competition, too. They like to write down the characters while the competitors(参赛者)are writing them.

The idea behind Facebook is to make us feel connected all the time. But in my research, I’ve found that the truth is quite different.
Technology, it turns out, has made being alone seem like a problem that needs solving. When young people are alone, even for a minute or two, they feel the need to connect, to get on Facebook or some other social networks and chat. But in connecting, they often end up feeling more isolated. Why Because by being in constant(不断的) connection, they lose the ability to feel satisfied with their own company(独处).
Sherry Turkle, a professor, says that Facebook can help us keep in touch with our friends, but we too often use it instead of spending face-to-face time with them. And since we feel the need to keep up with them online, we don’t have moments of loneliness where we can collect our thoughts and learn how to be comfortable being alone.
Jane, a former student of mine, who is back in New York after living abroad for ten years, told me that Facebook helps her a lot. The first time she moved back to New York from abroad, she felt disconnected from her family and friends. Now, because of lots of photos and information updates(更新), she knows what is happening with her friends all the time.
“In fact, if you are lonely in real life, you will be lonely online as well.”

At the beginning of the 20th century there were more than a million lions worldwide. Today there are less than 30,000 in the wild. The remaining lions are increasingly threatened by habitat loss, hunting and activities to protect farms and cattle.
For generations, Masai tribesmen(部落男子) on the large African plains in southeastern Kenya have hunted lions — to protect their farms and cattle. Today they celebrate the lions’ life.
Noah is an elder in the Masai community. “We have decided as a community of the Masai to lay down our spears(枪), and there will be no more killing of lions in our community.” He is part of a group of Masai visiting the United States promoting (推广) the Predator (捕食性动物) Compensation(补偿) Program.
Conservation International’s Frank Hawkins explains, “The Masai have been living with wildlife for many generations and it has been a conflicting(冲突的) relationship in many ways. They compete with the animals for food as lions eat their cattle. We’re trying to find ways in which the wildlife will become something useful to them.” They had the Predator Compensation Fund founded in 2003. After much discussion, a group of Masai farmers agreed to protect lions. In turn, if lions or other predators kill their cattle, the Masai owner will be paid market value for the dead animals from the fund.
One man said that in the past, when a lion killed cattle, they killed it on the spot(场所). And now, after the start of the program, the Masai see the lion population growing. Since 2003, only four lions have been killed here.
32. What is this passage mainly about
A. Lions and the Masai.
B.The wildlife in the world.
C. The living ways of the Masai.
D. The reason why lions are killed.
33. What is the aim of the Predator Compensation Program
A. To protect lions only.
B. To protect the wildlife.
C. To protect people in the wild.
D. To help the Masai protect their farms and cattle.
34. According to the passage, why haven’t Masai tribesmen killed many lions since 2003
A. Because lions don’t eat their cattle any more.
B. Because they will be fined(罚款) if they kill lions there.
C. Because there are less than 30,000 lions in the wild now.
D. Because if a lion kills their cattle, they will be paid for the dead animals from the fund.
35. What do you think of the Masai
A. Reasonable. B. Cruel. C. Poor. D. Stupid.

It is not always easy to keep a conversation going in English. You might not be sure about what to say. Or maybe you are afraid that your pronunciation is not good. So how can we continue a conversation in English 36
Listen and follow up
First, remember the importance of listening. Listen to the other person attentively(细心地), so that you can ask a follow-up question. For example, let’s say the other person tells you, “I just got back from a trip to Canada.” 37 Where did you go in Canada What was your favorite place there How was the food there
Avoid simple “yes” or “no” questions
If you want to keep a conversation going, it’s a good idea to ask questions that cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. If the other person asks you a “yes” or “no” question, try to give a longer answer to help keep the conversation going.
For example, a friend might ask, “Hey, have you seen the new Star Wars movie ” You could just answer, “No, I haven’t.” 38 You could answer: “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you ”
39
Do not worry about your pronunciation. If your pronunciation is a little different, the other person will still understand your message if you try speaking slowly and clearly. When you are traveling in an English-speaking country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy. 40
A. Or, you could say more.
B. Be brave and practice often.
C. You can try the following ways.
D. Then you may make a new friend.
E. Why did you choose the destination
F. Correct your pronunciation if possible.
G. You can continue with a question using where, what, why, or how.

33. B。本文虽然主要谈论了“捕食性动物补偿计划”怎样保护狮子,但该计划并非只是为了保护狮子。第四段中的 We’re trying to find ways in which the wildlife will become something useful to them. 说明“捕食性动物补偿计划”是为了保护所有野生动物的。
34. D。从In turn, if lions or other predators kill their cattle, the Masai owner will be paid market value for the dead animals from the fund. 这句可知现在如果有狮子或别的食肉类动物杀死了他们的牛,他们就可以从“捕食性动物补偿基金”里获得补偿,所以他们没必要再杀狮子了。
