Step 1 Lead-in Watch a video about students’ school life and talk about the video: What do you think of school life？ I think school life is___________. Purposes of Step 1 1.To lead in the topic of school life. 2.To activate the atmosphere of this class. By watching the video, students recall their memory of the school life and cultivate some touching feelings about it. 3.To guide students to think about their school life and try to use metaphor and attributive clauses to describe their school life. At the same time, students also develop their imagination by using the metaphor. 4. To lead in the main line of the whole class: Mary wants to know about the subjects and activities in our school. They also practise their listening skills in this part.
Step 2 Revision of Subjects Sharp eyes: Speak out the subjects according to the pictures as quickly as possible. Write down the spelling of the subjects without referring to any book. Extension: Use word-building to know about more words related to subject and try to summarize the rules. Improve your language level by using more phrases and sentence patterns. Express your feelings about learning so many subjects. Purposes of Step 2 1.To get familiar with the pronunciation. 2.To enhance their spelling of the words. 3.To increase their vocabulary by using word-building and cultivate their awareness of word-building. 4.To guide students to improve their language level of giving reasons by using patterns like: The reasons for that are as follows. Step 4 Reading and Writing Students read the passage about “double reduction” policy, answer the questions and learn some useful phrases from the material Students improve the language level of their writing Students try to evaluate another student’s composition according to the given standard. Purposes of Step 4 To remind students to have a good reading habit and be familiar with the skills of doing exercises about reading and answering questions. To guide the students to learn useful expressions from the reading materials To get familiar with our writing standard and learn to evaluate a composition and improve their writing at the same time.
Step 5 Summary and Homework. 1.School life is like a treasure, which is worth cherishing for the rest of our life. 2.Better your composition and rewrite them with wonderful handwriting. Purposes of Step 5 To summarize what they learn in this class and have an emotional appeal. To guide the students to enhance their skills of improving writing after class.

On a school day, 60 students at Xishan Primary School in Shunde, Guangdong, are learning how to make corn soup and fried pork with cauliflower (菜花)in an after-school cooking class. Working in groups of four or five, the little chefs take their responsibilities very seriously. Soon, they are showing off their own delicious dishes.
Since last September, the school has set up after-school classes for students, with cooking classes being the most popular, said Xinhua. It comes after the "double reduction”policy .The policy aims to ease the burdens of too much homework and off-campus tutoring (课外辅导)for primary and junior high school students.
The policy lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and difficulty of homework assignments, as well as improving the quality(质量)of education and after-school services. It allows students more free time to pursue (追求) their hobbies and interests.
In December, the Ministry of Education (MOE)reported on the progress made through the policy so far.Almost all primary and middle schools now offer two-hour after-school services on weekdays. More than 9opercent of students can finish their written homework in the set time.About 92.7 percent of schools have opened after-school arts and sports classes. More than 80 percent of academic tutoring institutions have closed down or turned to other fields of business.“With homework done at school, my child and I can read books and listen to music together in the evening, or we can go out to play badminton or skip rope," said LuDi, the parent of a fifth-grader in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang.
