About dogs
Dogs are our good friends. They started living with man about 10,000 years ago. And in 1957，a dog was the first animal in the world to travel in space.
People usually think that dogs can't see colours. It's not true. Dogs can see colours. They know the difference between blue, yellow and grey，but don't see red and green.
About cats
In ancient Egypt(古埃及)，people thought cats were Pharaoh's(法老王的).If there was a fire, people should save cats first，and then men.
In Belgium(比利时)in 1879, people once used 37 cats to carry letters. But the cats didn't work well in a team. So it didn't last long.
Cats hear better than dogs and people. They have 32 muscles(肌肉)in each ear，so they can turn their ears very quickly to catch sounds.
A study shows cats have better memories than dogs. It says a dog can remember something for no more than five minutes，but a cat can remember for 16 hours.

Hello! I’m Polly. I have a pet tortoise. His name is Speedy. I think his name is funny because Speedy walks quite slowly — he is not speedy at all! I bought Speedy after I read a book about tortoises. My grandfather helps me look after him. He loves tortoises too.

Many people like animals such as dogs and cats, and keep one or more of them as pets. If you keep a dog or a cat as a pet, you should know how to look after it.
A grown-up (成年的) dog needs two meals a day, not more. It can eat meat, fish, rice and some other things. Dogs like large bones best, but you can’t give them chicken bones. Remember to give them enough clean water.
A dog should have a dry box for sleeping. Washing it once a week is good for its health. If it is ill, take it to see a vet. A healthy dog will bring you more pleasure.

I have two pets. They are Fly, a dog, and Huahua, a cat.

Prana was a beautiful dog, whose name means “breath of life”. Although he died several years ago, I can still remember the days we spent together and what he has taught me about love.
I have two apple trees in the garden. Prana loved apples. When he went outside, he'd catch an apple and bring it into the house to eat later. The apples had been on the ground and were often dirty so I wasn't always happy that Prana had brought them into the house.

When he was a teenager, Hunter Adams was very unhappy and he spent many years in a special hospital for people with mental (心理的) health problems.
When he left the hospital, Adams decided to become a doctor, so he went to a medical school in Virginia, the USA. But when he was there, he did things in a different way. For example, he didn’t like the doctor’s white coats, so he wore shirts with flowers on them when he visited his patients and he tried to make them laugh. Hunter Adams became famous during the 1980s, and in 1988, Universal Pictures made film about his life. It was very successful. In the film, Robin Williams played Adams. Williams said, “Hunter is a really warm person, who believes that patients need a doctor who is a friend. I enjoyed playing him.”
