2021.临沂中考八、阅读表达(共5小题,计10分)
根据短文内容,回答下列问题。
A Friend to the Pilgrims
“I speak English.” When the Pilgrims (清教徒前辈美洲移民) heard these words, they were very surprised. The words came from Squanto, a Native American (印第安人). But how did he learn to speak English As the Pilgrims would soon find out, this happened to be a long story.
In 1605, George Weymouth, an English captain (船长), was exploring America. People from England were interested in the Native Americans of this new land. When Weymouth came to Squanto’s village, he captured (俘获) five men. Squanto was not among them, but the little boy was curious (好奇的). He volunteered to go with Weymouth to England.
In England, a friend of Weymouth’s took good care of Squanto. But after nine years, Squanto felt homesick. In 1614, two English captains, John Smith and Thomas Hunt, asked Squanto to help them explore America. They promised to take Squanto to his home village after the trip. Squanto was happy and agreed to go. But after the trip, Captain Hunt broke his promise. Instead of bringing Squanto to see his family, he sold him to Spain as a slave (奴隶).
In Spain, some monks (僧侣) saved Squanto and looked after him for three years. Then, he joined another trip to North America. The trip was to Newfoundland. This was still far from Squanto’s home. Squanto returned to England in the end.
By now, Squanto had known many important men in England. They liked Squanto and wanted to help him. Finally, Squanto went back to his home village in 1619 with the help of them. But sadly, the village was empty. All of the villagers had died from an illness.
When the Pilgrims arrived in America in 1620, winter would soon come. They needed help. Squanto happened to be living close to their houses. He offered to help. Knowing the language and customs of Englishmen, Squanto helped the Pilgrims in many ways, including teaching them how to catch fish. The Pilgrims were really lucky to have such a good friend!

On winter nights, the wind usually blows strongly. Most of us stay inside our warm homes. Few of us think about the homeless. These people have no choice but to sleep on the streets. Some of them are so poor that they have no money to buy food.
A young man in Birmingham, England, made a decision to do something about this. Every night, he puts on a Spider-Man suit and gives food to the homeless he meets. He makes sure that these people won’t go hungry.
The man refuses to make his name public. The local people call him the “Birmingham Spider-Man”. The young man hopes his action will show others that everybody deserves (应得) a helping hand.
The 25-year-old man started his night activities in 2015. Every night at 9, he buys some sandwiches. Then, he finds a quiet alley and puts on his “uniform”. After that, the “Spider-Man” starts handing his food out to people in need.
The man said, “I wear the Spider-Man suit in order to get attention.” Without the suit, few people took a second look at him when he was handing out food. When people see the “Spider-Stan”, however, they come over and ask what he is doing.
“The Birmingham Spider-Man” has already got lots of attention. Many people have offered to give away money to him. But the young man never accepts the money. Instead, he encourages people to go out and help people in need on their own. He said, “If more people offer a helping hand, the cold winter nights won’t be so cold any longer.”

六、阅读表达(共1小题,计10分)根据短文内容,回答下列问题。
The population of the world continues to increase, but in some areas the population is falling. This is true in Europe and especially in Eastern Europe. In Russia, the population is going down by about 100 people EVERY HOUR! Russia's population could fall by ONE THIRD by the year 2050!And in Poland (波兰)the population is also going down because people are leaving to work in other countries.
One of the main reasons is a change of lifestyle. All over Europe people, especially educated women, have a different attitude (态度)to children than their parents."I have one child and she is enough for me, "said Galina Tereschkova, a doctor from Moscow. "My husband and I both work full﹣time. We can't imagine having more than one child. "Many women decide to have children later in life or not to have children at all. "I don't want to have any children until I have worked for at least 10 years, "said 19﹣year﹣old student Hana Markova from Prague. Her opinion is typical of 18﹣24 year old women everywhere in Europe.
In Poland, the population is going down for a different reason. A lot of people, usually aged between 20 and 30, are leaving the country to work abroad. Poland joined the European Union in 2005 and since then more than half a million people have moved to Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy. Even so, the population of those four countries and many other countries in West Europe is also going down.
Many governments are now encouraging people to have larger families. In France, women now receive nearly 1,000 a month for a year if they have a third child.Austrian women receive 700 a month for three years when they have their first child.
(1)Where in the world is the population getting smaller?
(2)How many children does Galina Tereschkova want to have?
(3)What does Hana Markova want to do before she has children?
(4)Why is the population in Poland going down?
(5)How does the French government encourage people to have larger families now?
预测题1
When Wang Haiyan was young, her favorite toy wasn’t Barbie dolls. Instead, she started learning to make shadow puppets(皮影戏偶)from her father at 13. Now 43, Wang has spent 30 years practicing and spreading the art.
Shadow puppetry is a form of theater that use puppets made from leather(皮)or paper, accompanied(伴奏)by music and singing. It was invented during the Western Han Dynasty(206 BC-AD24). It tells us about folk tales and historical stories, passing down culture and customs over thousands of years.
Shadow puppetry is all about creating the puppets and performing with them. Wang’s hometown of Hua county(县), Shaanxi, is known as the birthplace of the folk art.
Puppet-makers must follow 24 steps to make the puppets including washing the leather, carving(雕刻)and painting, according to Wang. Carving is the most difficult part.
“We have a special carving skill-moving the leather under the knife.” Wang said. It took Wang three years to master this skill. She used a brick(砖)to make her left hand more powerful while practicing. It takes about 3,000 carves to make a shadow puppet. “The complex(复杂的)steps make it hard to hand down the folk art,” she said.
But Wang has found ways to do so. In recent years, she has made shadow puppets about traditional cartoons and given livestreaming(网络直播)performances. “I hope more and more young people enjoy shadow puppetry and pass it down,” she said.

预测题2:How much do you know about English It is an official (官方的) language of more than 50 countries and 250 to 300 million people speak it as a second language. Some say that half the world might (可能) be speaking it in 2050.
English is not the easiest language to learn—most of its common verbs are irregular and it has a large vocabulary—at least 200, 000 words are in common use. Its pronunciation and written form are also very different.
But some things make it easy—nouns don’t have gender (性) and verbs are less complicated (复杂的) than those of other languages. There is only one form to speak to someone directly—“you”. Adjectives don’t agree with nouns, and many nouns are also verbs.
English is always changing. Around 25, 000 new words and expressions come into the English language every year. Do you know what a “helicopter (直升机) parent” is It is a mother or father who is too involved (参与的) in the life of their child.
