What’s the first thing you remember doing It could be playing with your friends at school, or going to a birthday party and eating an amazing cake. Most of us have a valuable early memory of our childhood. But can we really believe those vivid memories Did those special moments really happen or did we make them up
According to research, about four out of ten of us invent our first childhood memory. Rather than having experienced something, we could make up memories from movies or photos we have seen. We could be influenced by a story that pushes our minds to take someone else’s memory as our own. It means memories of our younger years, especially before the age of two, may be false.
The reasons behind the false memories are hard to tell. Catherine Loveday, an expert in autobiographical(自传的) memory at the University of Westminster, said “Children aged 0-2 make short-term memories. This is possibly because of the fast creation of brain cells (细胞) in our early years.” As we get older, our childhood memories will gradually disappear and after the age of seven, we get some kind of “childhood amnesia (失忆症)”. To have a whole picture of our lives, we humans invent false memories, which gives us a clearer view of our early lives.
So, the next time someone says they have a clear memory from when they were one--or even before--- just remember that while it could be true, there’s a chance they just invented it at some point in their lives.

I felt coming steps. She was coming to teach all things to me, and to love me.
I still remember the morning my teacher came. She led me into her room and gave me a doll(玩偶). When I had played with it a little while, Miss Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word “d-o-l-l”. I was at once interested in this finger play and tried to copy it.When I succeeded in making the letters correctly, I was so excited and proud. In the 1994 film Forrest Gump, there’s a famous saying, “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.” The surprise is part of the fun. Now blind box toys are bringing the magic of surprise to online shopping.
A blind box toy is hidden inside the same packaging.You don’t know what will be inside, although the toys typically come from pop culture, ranging from movies to comics and cartoons.
Blind boxes have been popular since they were first introduced from Japan to China in 2014. According to a 2019 Tmall report, the mini-series of Labubu blind box, designed by Kasing Lung, was named Champion of Unit Sales with 55,000 sold in just 9 seconds during the Singles Day shopping event. Most customers for blind boxes are young people aged 18 to 35.
According to The Paper, blind box toys are popular in a way because of their cute looks. The typically cute cartoon characters come in small sizes, making them suitable for show almost anywhere.
Even if blind boxes are not their top choice for decorations(装饰), the mystery and uncertainty of the process also win the hearts of people. It’s the main reason why people buy blind boxes one after another.
“Fear of the unknown is always a part of the box-opening process,” said Miss Cao, 24, who lives and works in Shenyang. Speaking to Sina News, she said, “You cannot know what it is inside until you open all the boxes.”
Opening a blind box is a pleasant little surprise for our boring lives, something small but fun to wait for each day, week or month. When people open this simple little box, they may be disappointed, but the uncertainty is part of the fun. People will open more blind boxes and hope for a better outcome.
