　　The year 2021 is the Year of the Ox(牛). The ox means the spirit of hard work and selflessness(无私). We often say that the ox is enduring(耐久的) and generous(慷慨的). But they can be stubborn(固执的) sometimes. Some people think people born in the Year of the Ox are like the ox.
Chinese people like the ox a lot. It is one of man’s best friends. Oxen help people grow plants. Cows give people milk. Yaks(牦牛) help people carry things around.
People write poems(诗) about it and draw pictures of it. They also make paper-cuts of it to decorate(装饰) their homes during important festivals. In the well-known Chinese story, The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl(《牛郎织女》), a loyal cow helps a man marry a fairy(仙女). Lu Xun, one of China’s most famous writers, liked cows. He wrote, “Cows eat grass, but give milk.” In Chinese, we use the term “laohuangniu” to describe those who help others and ask nothing for themselves. We should learn from the ox.
