Being a good team player is an important skill in life. You can’t just think of yourself, but have to work well with other people. Other advantages of team sports like basketball, football and baseball are that they keep you fit and healthy, and they are also great fun. Teams usually have a good social life too—you’ll go to lots of parties and make many friends.
★Collect something
One of the best hobbies for under-18s is collecting things. You could collect kinds of stamps, or you could collect things that make you remember what you have done, like cinema tickets for films you have seen or letters from friends. China is a land of bicycles. At least it was back in 1992 when I travelled the country. Back then everyone seemed to be riding a bicycle. Millions of them, all black. Cars were rare(罕见). Yet, since my arrival in Beijing last year, I’ve found there are millions of cars. However, people still use their bicycles to get around. For many, it’s the easiest and cheapest way to travel today. Bicycles also come in different colors—sliver, green, red, blue, yellow, whatever you want.
It’s fun watching people biking. They rush quickly through crossroads, move skillfully through traffic, and ride even on sidewalks. Bicycles allow people the freedom to move about that cars can’t provide.
Eager to be a part of this Chinese culture, I bought a bicycle. Since the weather was great that day, I couldn’t wait to jump up on my bicycle and started for home.
My first ride home was orderly(守秩序的). To be safe, I stayed with a pack of bikers while cars on the streets appeared suddenly now and then. I didn’t want to get hit. So I took the ride carefully.
Crossing the streets was the biggest problem. It was like crossing highway back in the United States. The streets here were wide, so crossing took time, skill and a little bit of luck.
I finally made it home. The feeling on the bicycle was amazing. The air hitting my face and going through my hair was wonderful. I was sitting on top of the world as I passed by places and people. Biking made me feel alive.
5.According to the writer, why are bicycles still popular in China today
A.Because they are traditional and safe.
B.Because they are fast and don’t pollute the air.
C.Because they are colorful and available
D.Because they are convenient and inexpensive.
6.The writer decided to buy a bicycle because he intended ________.
A.to ride it for fun B.to experience local culture
C.to use it for transport D.to improve his riding skill
7.How did the writer feel about his street crossing
A.It was boring. B.It was lively
C.It was difficult. D.It was wonderful.
8.Which of the following best describes(描写) the writer’s biking experience
A.The writer enjoyed showing off his biking skills.
B.The writer took great pleasure in biking.
C.The writer was praised by other bikers.
D.The writer was annoyed by the air while riding.

Each morning a rich man found a poor man sitting on a bench in the park. The poor man always sat there, looking at the big hotel in which the rich man lived. A few days after, the rich man went into the poor man’s room to ask him how he was enjoying himself. To his surprise, he found that the man had moved out of the hotel back to his bench. When the rich man asked why, he said, “You see, when I’m sleeping on my bench, I dreamed I am there, in the big hotel. It’s a wonderful dream. Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes (废气). So the city began a project to improve the situation.
Under the Velib project (‘Velib’ comes from velo liberty, or ‘bicycle freedom’) people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first half-hour on the bike is free, but if you don’t return it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. But it’s only ?1 a day or ?29 a year! The bicycles are heavy (25 kg), and they are all gray and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of them in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations. So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 subway stations!
Paris is not the first city to have a project like this. But not everybody thinks it’s a great idea. One Parisian said, “These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to travel across the city, they won’t use a bicycle - they’ll still use their cars.”
A city spokesman said, “The bicycle project won’t solve all our traffic problems, of course. But it might help reduce air pollution. Traffic, together with factory fumes, is a big problem. There aren’t any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise, so the problems in our environment will get worse. The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too.”
13.What can we learn about the Velib project
A.Its bikes have no baskets. B.Its bikes are light and colorful.
C.It aims to make traveling easier. D.It owns more stations than the subway.
14.If you use a Velib for 1 hour, you should pay .
A.Free B.?1. C.?29. D.?30.
15.Why do some people disagree with the Velib project
A.The cost is rather high.
B.It’s hard to find a Velib station.
C.It’s not suitable for a long journey.
D.The distance between two Velib stations is long.
