Travelling can teach you a lot. Sometimes, on your journey, despite coming from totally different backgrounds, we were able to connect on a human level and learn from each other. I have learned about kindness when travelling in too many ways, but there is one particular example that stands out in my memory.
Eight years ago, a friend and I journeyed to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic to rent a private villa on the beach and do some relaxing. In the morning, we went to see the new sun sparkled gold across the ripples of gentle sea. In the evening, we stepped barefoot on the soft sandy beach, feeling the waves touching our feet and watching the setting sun leaving the sky afire with orange and green light. It was so much fun living on the beach.
Apart from the breathtaking scenery on the beach, I was also constantly touched by the warm hospitality of the Dominican people in general, but Pedro totally blew me away. He worked at our villa as the security guard. He also regularly provided assistance to all guests by accompanying them on their excursions to ensure they would be safe among local scenes where tourists may not be common or could be taken advantage of. However, he did not speak good English so often it was a bit challenging for him. Luckily, I speak Spanish so I was able to communicate very well with Pedro and this delighted him. Due to this, we chatted a lot and felt very connected. Pedro insisted on catering to our every need. He would not even let us lift a finger in the villa, which was above and beyond his duties. He told us we reminded him of his daughter and he felt like our "Papa" so he had to take care of us.
What really blew me away though is that Pedro basically ended up saving my life.

On the next night, Danny tried to find a new place and chanced upon the park. For a while his earnings were good unsurprisingly as there was a steady flow of visitors. However, that didn't last long. One-Eyed came along and appointed itself as Danny's guardian." Argh! Here comes the hateful dog again!" That night, Danny hadn't made enough money he should have, all thanks to the troublesome dog.
Danny was almost mad with One-Eyed. "What should I do Call an animal shelter " Torn by this problem, he walked aimlessly by the lake of the park. With all his mind focused on how to get rid of the dog, Danny didn't watch his steps. Suddenly, he slipped and fell into the lake accidentally. Struggling in the icy water, he cried for help desperately, almost choking to death. Sensing the approach of death, Danny got into overwhelming panic.

The next day at school, Agatha kept an eye on her friends and tried to work out their mystery, but they seemed determined to keep things secret. She asked them if they would like to play with her after school, but they said they couldn’t because they were busy. Even more mysterious…
When Agatha’s mum came to pick her up after school, she was so lost in the unsolved mystery that she hardly noticed her busy father was coming along, which was unusual. When they arrived home, her father said she could go into the living room.

4. I was never very neat. Yet, when I arrived at college, I hadn't come up with any impressive reasons for my big messes. They just were-and my roommate didn't seem to appreciate their contribution to my bright future.

The light bulb was broken, covering the layer of clothes I had been planning to fold that very night. I jumped off the bed in horror and immediately started yelling.
I'm sure we wouldn't have lasted a day or two longer in that room. Probably not even a night, if it hadn't been for the phone call she received. I was sitting on my bed, angry. She was sitting on hers.
When the phone rang she picked it up and I could tell right away it wasn't good news. I sat up in my bed. Kim wouldn't look at me and when she hung up the phone, she quickly crawled under her covers and I could hear her quiet sobbing. What to do I didn't want to just walk over but I didn't want to leave her either. I smiled as I got the idea.

Erin was in second place at the end of round one, and Robert thought she would win. But watching his daughter's broken steps as she prepared for her second attempt, Robert's fears rose. Erin was hurting.
"Erin Thompson up!" rang out from the loud speaker. As she ran down the runway, Robert rocked from side to side, feeling with his daughter each painful step.
She made the second jump, but this time there was no smile and certainly no bounce after her accomplishment. "Fourteen feet seven inches," the judge announced. Not as long as the first. Watching her limping on the track, Robert wished she would quit or give him a glance for help, but he only saw grim determination on his daughter's face. On the way driving back from the grocery store, I noticed a homeless man holding a sign by the side of the road. My heart hurt, and I tried not to look at him. I watched people stay away from him on the street and walk by without even meeting his eyes. My son didn’t seem to care much, either. I looked at the man closely then— bare hands grasping a piece of cardboard, snot (鼻涕)frozen to his face, a worn-out jacket. And there I was struggling because I had to buy oil and groceries. But I decided to help him. I pulled over(开车过去) to the man and handed him a five-dollar bill.

The lights in the airplane started flickering, and I could feel the bumps the plane was making. Was I still dreaming I looked to my left and the seat was empty! Sweat started to run down my face. The young female was gone!
"Mommy!!" A little girl screamed. I couldn't control it anymore and tears started rolling down my face. The plane shook more, seeming the end was nearing.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are experiencing an extreme clear air turbulence(乱流)," the pilot explained. "The plane is being adjusted. Please remain seated."
