一、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The darkness was gathering as she wobbled (摇晃) in high heels(高跟鞋) along the side of the highway. The car had come to an unexpected stop, and like a normal teenager she did the only thing she could think of... get out and walk.
It was cold and late, and home was far away. This could be a long night. If only someone would stop and offer her a ride. She prayed for help and dragged herself forward.
The lights of a truck shone from behind as it approached. " Maybe he will stop," she hoped. The brake lights flashed on as it stopped. Next moment, the car door opened. A wordless invitation was extended and she understood. Without hesitation, the girl climbed up into the seat and closed the door. Slowly the truck pulled back onto the road and disappeared into the night, never to be seen again.
I woke up in a cold sweat, frightened. Was it a dream or was it a vision It was unbelievably real, and the girl was my daughter! I jumped from my bed and ran to her room. Her bed was empty.
I stood in horror trying to think why she hadn't come home. As the mental fog began to lift, I remembered she was visiting her friend that evening. Perhaps she stayed there for the night. It was 1:30 am, but I raced to the phone and dialed a number.
"Hello " The voice was heavy with sleep.
"Hey. Sorry to wake you. Becki didn't come home tonight and I was wondering if she stayed at your place."
"No, she left here a few hours ago. She should have been home at least by midnight!" The voice on the other end began to reflect my own panic.
Over the next forty-five minutes I alternated between lying in pray and pacing the floor in anxiety.
At 2:15 am lights appeared as a car turned up our long driveway. I could tell immediately that it was not my daughter's car.

二、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
This past summer, my family went on our annual vacation in a cottage on a lake. There were various activities to keep everyone busy: swimming, fishing and building sand castle on the beach. In the evenings, we gathered on the beach, having great fun.
However, by the third day of our vacation, I noticed my sister, Jane, spent most of her time watching videos and looking through online shops indoors. She was so addicted to her cell phone! Over dinner, I told Jane we would hike to the top of the mountain across the lake the following morning. I stared at her, “Put your phone away and enjoy the scenery. It's really amazing.”
“Well,” Jane shrugged(耸)her shoulders and answered unwillingly, “there are some bargains tomorrow in several online shops, so I'll not be available.”
“Come out to enjoy the fresh air and many views. Hiking is fun!”
“Sounds more like punishment than a vacation,” she didn't look up from her soup and mumbled(嘟囔),“I cannot walk that far.”
When I said it only took half an hour of steady walking to climb to the top, she nodded, “OK, I'll go.”
The next morning was perfect for a hike, with sunny clear skies and gentle winds. I got up early and packed some sandwiches and bottles of water into my backpack along with the camera. Jane came slowly downstairs, and announced in a very unenthusiastic voice, “I'm ready to go, Jim.”
Anyway, we stepped out of our cottage and quite a different view unfolded before our eyes. Against the blue skies, a rough path wound to the top of the mountain across the lake with wild flowers and grass on both sides. The sunlight brightened on the glassy surface of the lake. We began from the path. “I'm still wondering if this is a good idea, but if you could do it, I could also do.” She complained, frowning.

三、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One Friday afternoon, some of my classmates planned to take a hike in a jungle(丛林), including my friends Jake and Liam. They asked me if I would like to go with them. I love outdoor activities, so I immediately said yes.
It was sunny the following morning. I was in a very good mood. I was so excited about hiking since it was the first time that I had hiked with them. I ate a light breakfast. After that, I hurriedly ran out of my house to meet them in the school playground.
The jungle where we were going was far from our school. It took about three hours to go there by bus, but it wasn't a boring journey as we were all eager to hike. After we got off the bus, we found a local guide to ensure our safety. The guide, whose name is Thomas, said that he had hiked there lots of times and that he was familiar with the route. When we arrived, Thomas told us never to leave the group. He warned us that we would easily get lost in the jungle if we walked alone. Then we began to hike.
There were various plants which we had never seen before. All of us were amazed at the beauty of the scenery and the sounds of the creatures. Sadly, after hiking for about an hour, I found that my watch on my wrist was gone. I realized that my watch had fallen off. It was a gift from my grandma, and I loved it very much. Without thinking. I turned back and tried to find my watch. Since I was the last one walking in the group, nobody noticed it when I walked away.
I wasn't worried about getting lost because I thought I could find my watch easily. However, when I finally found my watch and tried to catch up with my friends, they had gone far. I immediately realized that I was alone and lost.

四、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When my boys were younger, going out with them was difficult. My heart sank during the holiday season every time I looked at the long line of kids waiting to meet Santa. This was not an activity our family could enjoy. The noise and crowds caused sensory(感官的)overload for my five-year-old son Noah, an autistic(患自闭症的)child. I also had a younger son, Henry, who needed an extra hand. Waiting in line was hardly possible.
I always hoped for the best but planned for the worst when I took the boys out of the house, but I knew that attempting to get a picture with Santa wasn't worth the risk. If we had attempted to stand in line for even a few minutes, I would have been chasing Noah, and Henry would have experienced an emotional breakdown. It was easier to stay at home.
On the afternoon of Christmas Eve a year ago, the phone rang. The voice on the other end of the line said, "If you're at home this evening, I'd like to arrange for Santa to stop by." It was Denny, the friendly owner of a company, who had helped us with our do-it-yourself project. In a short time he was at our home, Denny's kindness and ability to relate to our kids were evident.
I felt nervous and excited about having Santa come to our home. Denny told me it would be well arranged. Would our kids even notice Would they be frightened by a stranger in a red suit Would they cry
A few minutes before I was planning to cook dinner on Christmas Eve, Santa tapped gently on the living-room window. Noah was speechless, and his jaw dropped. Henry, two years old, waved and said, "Hi, Santa!"注意:1.续写短文的词数应为150左右;2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。Paragraph 1:

五、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My father is a practical man. He can’t explain calculus(微积分), but he can tell you how much pressure a boiler needs. He can’t draw an architect’s plan, but he can tell you if the pipes and wiring will sustain the structure. He put himself through night school to become an engineer, but that was only after he worked a slumber, an electrician, and a mechanic.
One day we walked by a toy store window. Sitting in the corner was the most unusual doll-house I’d ever seen. It was shaped liked an upturned log(原木). Little oval windows decorated with nice curtains and framed by tiny balconies were cut into it.
“Oh, Daddy,” I said, “isn’t it beautiful Do you think Santa Claus will bring it to me ”
Dad looked at the $100 price tag, silent — that’s a rather big figure in those days. “I think even Santa couldn’t afford this house,” he joked, lifting up his belt as he often does when he’s nervous. “Maybe one day, sweetheart.”
On Christmas morning, I awoke early and raced downstairs. In the dim light, I made out a lot of wrapped boxes under the tree — but none large enough to contain my dollhouse. Dad could see my disappointment. He pulled me onto his lap and gently told me how, as a boy, he had wanted a red wagon, but his father couldn’t afford one. He said he made his own from wood and old wheels he found. “I’ll make one for you,” Dad assured me.
And right after Christmas, despite all the unfinished projects at home, he started it. I naively(幼稚地) thought it was an easy toy to make, but every step of the long process was considerably more complex than I had anticipated. Night after night, Dad would come home from his job dead tired, yet he’d always find time to work on the log house. In the dark yellow electric light, Dad was always busy creating my dollhouse.

During my sixth-grade-year, my puberty (青春期)came and my voice started changing. Sometimes it'd crack(嗓音变哑). The first time it happened, I was embarrassed. I thought people around me might make fun of me since they didn't have the same problem of controlling their voices.
After my first voice crack experience, trying to prevent it from happening again, I almost stopped talking. If I had to talk, I'd first clear my throat. Limiting how much I spoke and clearing my voice before I spoke made my break and lunch experiences less stressful. Even when my voice did crack, only my closest friends would hear. My biggest fear was having a voice crack during class.
Unfortunately, one day the worst thing I had feared came. It was about halfway through the year when I was happy to have made it so long without a bad voice crack incident.
On the day it happened, everything was the same as always until I got into class. When I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was that we had a new teacher. For some classmates, seeing a new teacher was a great thing, but for me, it was a problem. I immediately started thinking about how the new teacher would need to take attendance. My previous teacher never had to. Since he already knew each student and where they sat, he just had everyone sit down in their seat, and marked the students whose seats were empty absent.
I started to panic. So many thoughts were rushing through my mind that I could not think straight. I calmed myself down by telling myself that I only had to say one word: "here". Wasn't it easy enough Well, I thought so too until my name was called. I did my normal routine; I cleared my throat, took breath, and said, "Here!" The only problem was that while saying this, I had the worst voice crack in the history of voice cracks.
The whole class turned to look at me.___________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It was my twelfth birthday, and what I really wanted most was a new bicycle. But I knew that my family couldn't afford one, so I settled for a bedside table with lockable drawers, safe places to keep my private stuff.
We went to the charity shop where we found an old dark one. It didn't look too cool, but I thought that I would paint it to make it look better.
After we took it home, I was getting ready to paint it. When I pulled the drawers out, I felt something stuck to the back of a drawer. I reached in the drawer all the way, and guess what A sealed bag with some papers was in it.
When I opened the bag, I realized that the papers were official documents. And, wrapped in them was a bunch of ten and twenty dollar bills! Talk about finding a treasure! And on my birthday!
"Is this some kind of joke " I said aloud. I went ahead and read the papers, and they turned oul to be a will. Some old lady was leaving her savings for her son and grandchildren.
I was going crazy. Was I the luckiest twelve-year-old ever With this money I could buy the coolest bicycle. Who knows
I began counting. When I reached a thousand dollars, my mother was knocking on my bedroom door. I quickly closed the drawer with the money in it.
"Do you want some help Is everything all right " she asked.
No, everything was not right. Actually, my stomach was growling(低吼).
"I'm okay," I lied.
When my mother left my room, I lay on my bed, starting thinking. What a dilemma(窘境)! I wished there were someone I could talk with. Could I keep it and get all kinds of stuff for me and my family It wouldn't be too bad for me to keep it, if I shared it... right Thoughts ran through my mind. But I really didn't need someone else to give me the answer.

八、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Be sure to hang the decorations high,” said Polly, my stepmom. “Jake might mistake the colorful glass balls for his toys and try to bite them.” Jake was new to our family that Christmas. He was a beautiful brown-and-white dog. And, of course, he was loaded with the curiosity that made everything a toy.
Two weeks before Christmas, we brought out the boxes of decorations, many of which had been in Polly's family for ages. Among them was a special box that held an entire gingerbread family(姜饼人). They were real cookies, hung with red ribbons (丝带) and made many years earlier.
Every now and then, I or one of my little sisters-Ruth and Sue-would pretend we were going to eat one, knowing that Polly would say, “You’ll break a tooth! They're so old that they're rock-hard.” We didn't really want to eat them, but we enjoyed making fun of Polly.
Since we didn't know how Jake would react to the decorations or the Christmas tree, we were careful to put the decorations up high. Jake sniffed(嗅)the tree a lot. Those first couple of days, Polly caught him starting to lift a leg on the tree twice. But he learned quickly and settled for sniffing from a distance.
The weekend before Christmas, Dad and Polly took us to watch the new holiday movie. Excited, we jumped into the car with bags of home-made popcorn, and off we went for a great evening.
A few hours later, we returned home, only to find...a terrible mess. It wasn't the Christmas tree. In fact, we weren't sure what it was. We stood just inside the door staring at the mess. As it turned out, it was Jake's bed, which he'd destroyed. Left alone for the first time, he must have gotten bored, attacked it and left it for dead. We didn't know that the bed was not the only victim.

As a woman walked down the streets one day on a cold day in February, she spotted a beggar. The man looked dirty, and didn’t even wear a proper coat. Every passer-by looked at him with contempt(鄙视). Not like they had anything against him, but merely because of who he was: a dirty beggar.
“Sir Are you all right ” The lady asked him. The old beggar thought that this well-dressed, obviously wealthy lady, was laughing at him. “Leave me alone!” he shouted. She did not move. “Are you hungry ” she asked with a gentle smile. “No, I’ve just had lunch with the president.” the beggar replied sarcastically(讥讽地). Her smile did not fade, and she tried to pick him up. “What do you think you are doing, woman!” the beggar cried.
“Is there a problem ma’am ” a passing policeman asked. “Not at all, officer. I’m just trying to get this man on his feet.” the woman replied. Surprised, the policeman said: “That’s old Jack, he has been here for years. What have you got to do with him ” “I am taking him to the cafeteria to get warm and eat something.” the woman answered.
Angry, the old beggar now shouted: “Are you crazy! I don’t want to go in there!” But then he felt strong hands lifting him up. “Let me go, officer. I didn’t do anything!” “Don’t miss this good chance to feed yourself, Jack.” the officer advised. Together, they dragged Jack into the cafeteria. She stared at Jack and said: “Jack, do you remember me ” “Well, you do look familiar.” Jack said while examining her face.

THE TEACHER’S HAND
Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher gave her class a fun assignment—to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.
Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her student’s art. And they were.
But Douglas made a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was the teacher’s true child of misery, weakness and unhappiness. His father died in a car accident and the driver wasn’t turned up yet. When first introduced to the teacher, the tiny shy boy greeted her in a timid tone, with his head down. She felt as if her heart was broken when he hesitated back and forth, glancing now and then at other kids playing games. She promised that she would help him out. As other children played on the playground, Douglas was likely to stand close by her side, one hand in hers. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt behind those sad eyes.
Yes, his picture was different. When asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand.

答案以及解析
一、答案:
My face pressed against the window and found it was hard to breathe. The car pulled in front of the house, out of it emerged my precious daughter, making her way up the steps. Tears stinging my eyes, I threw open the door, pulled her inside and hugged her tightly. The dream was just too real and I could hardly believe I was now having my daughter in my hug. I wondered if it was because my pray was answered. Then through my blurred vision I saw a lady stepping out of the car."
Mom, she gave me a ride home," Becki said. "My car broke down on the highway and if she hadn't given me a ride, I would never have made it home in my high heels at midnight." she continued, exposing her blistered ankles. My heart shuddered at the thought of what panic she experienced when she staggered alone along the dark highway at night. She must be an angel for Becki! I approached the lady and invited her inside. Now, I was definitely grateful to her for extending a helping hand.
二、答案:
She followed me, her mind wandering. Minutes later, we started to climb a steep slope. Jane sighed, dragging her legs behind me. I was surprised to find some rarely-seen trees and flowers, and took many photos but Jane showed no interest. She stopped and sat on a rock, thirsty, sweaty and bored. I handed her a bottle of water and we took a break. “I missed my phone,” she complained as we continued climbing. Though unhappy, she just climbed along with me.
Reaching the top, Jane widened her eyes, shouting, “How awesome!” She looked around dreamily, her eyes twinkling with indescribably wild excitement. A refreshing breeze brushed the mountain top, miles of trees spread out below us and birds chirped between branches. We sat on a large rock and ate sandwiches, enjoying the sounds, the smells and the sunlight. “Anyone still wants her phone ” I joked. She rolled her eyes, laughing out loud. The next morning, Jane danced to my room, crying, “Let's hike around the lake today.” Sure, get our backpack then, I beamed, relieved and joyful.

三、答案:
The sky started to become darker and I was very worried. I didn't know what to do. I called out to my friends, but there was no reply. I tried to look for a way but none of the scenes seemed familiar. I walked for a few more minutes and I got tired and hungry. I was horrified. Finally, I gave up and leaned on a tree to rest. As I was falling asleep, I heard a human voice. It was unbelievable;then I heard someone else. I screamed, "Help!"
Actually, they were rescuers searching for me. My friends Jack and Liam told the guide that they found I was lost, and finally some rescuers were called to help. They led me back to the bus. Seeing me, my friends told me they were really worried. I apologized to them for leaving the group without telling them. Instead of feeling angry with me, they comforted me and helped me calm down to learn a good lesson from it. And I truly learned a good lesson from it-never leave your group members when you're in a strange place.
四、答案:
Excited and nervous, I opened the door, and Santa stepped inside. "Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas, boys!" He greeted my sons in a voice that couldn't scare them. His long white beard and bright red suit attracted the boys so much that they approached to watch him carefully. Santa didn't seem to be disturbed, instead, he quietly sang Jingle Bells for them. And it was the first time that our home had been filled with festive atmosphere. Then, Santa took a seat on our couch and each boy sat on his lap while I took pictures.
Santa left after staying at our home for only a few minutes, and tears streamed down my face. A mixed feeling of thrill and gratitude took hold of me. As an autistic kid's mother, I knew how difficult it was for Noah to accept an entire stranger, but he made it. Witnessing the bright smiles on kids' faces, I was grateful to Denny. Without his generous love and kindness, my boys wouldn't have enjoyed meeting Santa in our own home. So warm and special was the Christmas Eve that it would remain one of our most treasured holiday memories.
五、答案:
I hesitated, wondering if I should help my father. I was afraid that I would only get in his way and cause more trouble. So I stood nearby, watching Dad’s tired figure as he worked. Dad noticed my hesitation and started to give me simple tasks, such as making small curtains by using red printed cloth. In his company, I discovered the joy of making handicrafts. Instead of that red novel dollhouse at the toy-store, my handiwork occupied my mind. I was full of joy at the thought of seeing the fruit of my labor in the very near future.
In all, it took us one month of hard work. When I finally saw the finished dollhouse, I just wanted to be a little doll so that I could live in this elegant building and enjoy the stylish furniture and balconies. I felt a real sense of accomplishment as I gazed over the dollhouse with a glint in my eyes. It was then that I wanted to be a practical person like my father. I got a late Christmas gift, but
I learned an invaluable lesson that would stay with me for the rest of my life.
六、答案:
The whole class turned to look at me. It felt as if everyone was staring into my soul. There was silence: then the entire class burst into laughter, which made me so embarrassed. Finally, the class settled down and moved on, but I couldn't get the thoughts out of my head. I couldn't stop worrying about what my classmates and the new teacher would think about me. I even felt ashamed of myself for my voice crack.
A break finally came. I walked out of the classroom in a bad mood. For the first time, I wanted to be alone. When I was lost in my depression, I received a text message from the new teacher. In the message, he comforted me with some encouraging words. Don't take it seriously. It's perfectly natural for a teenage boy. You are a big boy now. Seeing these words, I smiled. After that, I became less worried and more confident when talking. My voice became normal finally.
七、答案:
I finally made a decision and called my parents into my bedroom. They both were totally shocked when they saw the dollar bills lying on the table(时间状语从句). Then I briefly explained what had happened(宾语从句) and asked about what we should do with the money(宾语从句). After some brief thinking, Mom said, "We'd better return the money to her son or grandchildren." We all agreed and decided to turn to the shop owner for help. Dad showed the will and money to the shop owner, asking him to help find the contact information of the lady's family(非谓语动词短语作状语).
Though surprised, the shop owner helped find the family's telephone number. The one who answered the phone(定语从句) was the lady's grandson. He couldn't believe what he had heard(宾语从句) as his grandmother had passed away for forty years(原因状语从句). I told him the address of my home. Two hours later, he arrived. He recognized the bedside table the moment he saw it. He thanked us and insisted that we should keep some money(宾语从句) but was declined. There couldn't be a better birthday gift than returning something to its original owner especially after forty years.
八、答案:
The next morning, we girls were playing in the living room when Ruth let out a sudden cry. "Hey, who broke Gingerbread Baby " Ruth asked. That brought Polly to the living room fast. "Where Show me!" Ruth pointed at the former baby cookie, which was now just a head, still tied to the tree by its red ribbon. "Here's another broken one," said Sue. It's Gingerbread Grandpa. Or it was. Now it's just his head and hat. That caused some inspection, and soon it was clear that all the gingerbread men were now just gingerbread heads.
"It wasn't me," I said, in case anybody thought I'd had a midnight snack of rock-hard decorations. Quickly, my sisters made denials of their own. Then we girls and Polly all looked at Jake. Until that moment, Jake had been sitting by Dad, looking happy as ever. Suddenly, his posture changed. Guilt spread over his face. With his head bowed a little, he tried not to meet Polly's eyes, but it was clear what had happened. It was as if he were wearing a sign that said, "I killed an entire gingerbread family."

十、答案:
His abstract image attracted the imagination of his classmates. Whose hand could it be One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raised turkeys. Another suggested it was the hand of a police officer, because the police protected and cared for people. Still others guessed it was the hand of Douglas’ mother, for his mother gave birth to him and fed him. And so the discussion went — until the teacher almost forgot the young artist himself.
When the children had gone on to other homework, she paused at Douglas’ desk, bent down, and asked him whose hand it was. The little boy looked away and murmured, “It’s yours, teacher.” Feeling surprised, she called up the times she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there, as she had the other students. How often had she said, “Take my hand, Douglas, we’ll go outside.” Or, “Let me show you how to hold your pencil.” Or, “Let’s do this together.” Douglas was most grateful to his teacher’s hand. Brushing aside her tears, she went on with her work.
