读后续写
一、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Amy Hagadom, a third-grade girl in Fort Wayne, Indiana, impressed people all across the country by bravely speaking up to make a simple yet remarkable wish.
As Amy Hagadorn rounded the comer across the hall from her classroom, she knocked into a tall boy from the fifth grade running in the opposite direction.
“Watch it, squirt (矮子).” The boy yelled as he passed by the little third-grader. Then, with a bad smile on his face, the boy took hold of his right leg and copied the way Amy limped (跛行) when she walked.
Amy closed her eyes. Ignore him, she told herself as she headed for her classroom. But at the end of the day, Amy was still thinking about the tall boy's mean teasing. It wasn't as if he were the only one. It seemed that ever since Amy started the third grade, someone teased her every single day. Kids teased her about her speech or her limping. Amy was tired of it. Sometimes, even in a classroom full of other students, the teasing made her feel very lonely.
Back home at the dinner table that evening, Amy was quiet. Her mother knew that things were not going well at school. That’s why Patti Hagadorn was happy to have some exciting news to share with her daughter.
“There’s a Christmas wish contest on the radio station,”Amy’s mom announced.“Write a letter to Santa, and you might win a prize.”
Amy giggled. The contest sounded like fun. She started thinking about what she wanted most for Christmas.
A smile took hold of Amy when the idea first came to her. Out came pencil and paper, and Amy went to work on her letter.
Dear Santa Claus.
My name is Amy. I am nine years old. I have a problem at school. Can you help me Santa Kids laugh at me because of the way I walk and run and talk. I have a serious disease. I just want one day where no one laughs at me or makes fun of me. Love, Amy.

二、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I live with my husband in San Luis Obispo, California, about three miles from the beach. Every few years, the humpback whales come into the bay for a few days while they’re migrating. November 2020 was one of those times, so we took out our yellow double kayak(皮艇)to watch the wildlife. We paddled out the length of the pier(码头)and saw seals, dolphins, and about 20 whales feeding on silverfish. We were in awe watching these graceful giants—each one about 50 feet long—breach and spray through their blowholes. We laughed when they turned their side fins so that it looked as if they were waving at us.
At the time, my friend Liz was staying with us. The next day, I asked her if she wanted to go out on the water to see them.
“No way,” said Liz, now 65. She was not an experienced kayaker and was terrified that the kayak would overturn while we were surrounded by hungry whales. “There’s nothing to worry about,” I assured her. “The craft is stable, and we can turn back anytime. I’ve learned somewhere that whales have enormous mouths but tiny throats. Anything they can`t swallow they spit right out.” After some cajoling(劝诱), she finally agreed to join me. I didn’t want her to miss this magnificent experience and regret it later.
Liz and I got out on the water at 8:30 the following morning. There were already about 15 other kayakers and paddleboarders in the bay. It was warm for November, so we wore T-shirts and leggings. After a half-hour, we had our first whale sighting just past the pier: two humpbacks swimming toward us. How amazing to be that close to a creature that size, I thought as the whales dipped under the waterline.
When whales go down after breaching, they leave what looks like an oil slick on the water. I figured if we paddled toward that spot, we’d be safe from the whales, since they’d just left. We followed them at a distance—or what I thought was a distance. I later found out that it’s recommended to keep 300 feet away. We were more like 60 feet away.

三、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Mr. Watson’s store was widely known throughout the neighborhood. It sold many different things. Every day after school, Jess came to the store and he loved to look at the pipes (烟斗). One pipe especially caught his eye. He imagined that some day he would be a grown man and could smoke a pipe, just like this one. He did not remember his father, but he knew his dad smoked a pipe.
Jess reached out and touched the pipe. He kept thinking that when he was old enough, he would go to work and his mother could stay home. He would not have to wait three hours after school until she came home from her job. Oh, why He wondered, did it take so long to grow up and take his father’s place.
He looked around the store and put the bowl of the pipe in his hand. He just wanted to get the feel of it — nothing more. He was lost in his dream, wishing he could be like his father.
Suddenly he was shocked out of his dream. He heard footsteps behind him. He turned around quickly. It was Mr. Watson, the friendly store owner. Jess was unable to move.
“Hello, Jess,” Mr. Watson said, and kept on walking. Jess struggled to answer but could not get his voice up. He swallowed and smiled weakly as Mr. Watson walked away. Jess’s thoughts became unclear. Was he suspicious
Suddenly the store seemed extremely warm. Jess watched his feet begin to move and take him out of the store. He felt the cool air outside and it was good, yet, he felt an emptiness inside himself. Like one walking in his sleep, he moved toward the ground. He looked around and saw the empty swings. He slipped into one and leaned against its chain. The cold metal links hurt his side.
Sitting on the swing, he gave the ground a push with one foot. A sharp pain caught him in the stomach. He knew it was the pipe he felt. He had walked out of the store with it.

四、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In our kitchen, there was a wooden table and three chairs — one for Dad, one for Mom, and one for me. In the cellar (地窖), the very last jar of apple jam lay quietly on the shelf, waiting to be turned into an apple pie when Dad came back. Mom sat at one end of the table. I sat in the middle between her and Dad. I tried not to look at Dad’s empty place. Dad had gone to the city to look for work for a long time.
Every night, I lay awake in bed and waited for the train to stop. Waited to hear the creaky (嘎吱作响的) gate Dad’s going to fix when he came home. Waited to hear the sound of his work boots dropping on the step by the kitchen door, and his voice calling, “I’m home!”
Every night, as I lay there, I stared at the window and the curtains Mom made from empty flour sacks (麻布袋).
Every night, Mom came to kiss me good-night — after the train’s gone by. She had been listening, too. “Go to sleep. Your dad will be home soon. Maybe for Thanksgiving.”
Time dragging by, it finally came the day before Thanksgiving. I went to sleep with the sound of train wheels in my head, whispering, “Maybe tomorrow, maybe tomorrow.”
Early the next morning, the smell of coffee woke me. I ran into the kitchen. There he was! Dad lifted me onto his shoulders and pretended to stagger from my weight. “How’s my boy You’ve gotten so big that I can barely lift you up anymore.”
He put me down, and I stared at the two sacks on the table. One said FLOUR — I knew that word. I tried reading the other: S-U-G-A-R. Dad whistled admiringly and winked at me. Mom and I had been practicing my letters most days. I could see that Mom was pleased with me. “I’m going to bake a pie for your dad’s homecoming dinner. Jimmy, bring me that jar of apple jam from the shelf in the cellar.” Mom smiled at me.

五、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之成为一个完整的故事。
“You should get a dog.” my therapist (治疗专家) said. A dog I couldn’t even look after myself. I took a deep breath and carefully considered the idea of welcoming a canine (犬科的) friend into my life. This seemed like too easy a solution to the fact that I couldn't leave the house without bursting into tears.
Adopting an animal during the height of the pandemic was far from easy. When I found Simba, his adoption profile made him out as the perfect puppy. I filed out the paperwork and had a few weeks to prepare for his arrival.
When he came home, it became increasingly obvious that Simba didn’t understand “no”, “stop it’ or “don’t do that”. He was the worst-behaved dog I’d ever seen. I was beginning to doubt my therapist’s advice.
At home, I found him sitting on my bed comfortably. Jumping from the sofa to the tea table was his favorite game every day. He fought tooth and nail to get a bite of my meals and ate anything that fell on the floor. What was worse, dog waste and urine were seen everywhere, which annoyed me most. But his curiosity and vigor really impressed me. Training him to behave well kept me busier than I’d ever expected.
I decided to start taking him for walks. I could barely leave the house before, but my heart couldn’t say no to Simba. Simba showed me what bravery looked like. He didn’t stop to consider every possible outcome of a situation. He simply went for it. If there was a dog at a park,he would run toward it. He always leapt forward and explored the unknown by sniffing here and there unless I called him. He loved adventure. I found myself mirroring his behavior after a while, jumping out of bed without a second thought. I began to find the motivation to get out of bed in the morning.

参考答案:
一、Para. 1
When Amy' s letter arrived at the radio station, manager Lee Tobin read it carefully. He thought it good for the people in Fort Wayne to hear about this special third-grader and her unusual wish. Mr. Tobin called up the local newspaper. The next day, a picture of Amy and her letter to Santa made the front page. The story spread quickly. All across the country, newspapers and radio and television stations reported the story of the little girl who asked for such a simple yet remarkable Christmas gift—just one day without teasing.
Para. 2
Suddenly the postman in the community was a regular at the Hagadorn house. Envelopes of all sizes addressed to Amy arrived daily from children and adults all across the nation. Through the cards and letters from strangers, Amy glimpsed a world full of people who truly cared about each other. She realized that no amount or form of teasing could ever make her feel lonely again. By daring to make such a simple wish, Amy taught us a universal lesson that everyone wants and deserves to be treated with respect, dignity and warmth.
解析:

二、Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, we felt our kayak rocking violently. A tightly packed swarm of fish, started jumping out of the water into our kayak. Their movement sounded like crackling glass all around us. We then realized, to our wide-eyed horror, that the whales were charging toward us. I tried, with all my might, to pedal to safety, only to find we were in the middle of nowhere. Our kayak was lifted out of the water about six feet, bracketed by massive jaws. Liz and I slipped out of the kayak into the whale’s mouth. My body was engulfed except for my right arm and my paddle. Fright however, deprived Liz, my poor partner, of her ability to speak, to think and to fight.
Paragraph 2:
Still, I didn’t panic and I just kept thinking I’ve got to breathe in this “white wall”. My previous knowledge about whales proved to be true. As soon as the whale dipped underwater, it spit us out, and we popped back up onto the surface about a foot apart. The entire ordeal lasted only about 10 seconds. And I felt so blessed that we were both all fours. “I thought we were dead!” Liz said. We were not, of course. But I am much more aware of the power of nature and the ocean than I was before. Liz was shaken up, likening the ordeal to a near-death experience. But even she had to laugh when she got home that afternoon and realized she’d brought back a souvenir. When she pulled off her shirt, six silverfish flopped out.

三、 The sun was slipping down through the trees and it was time to go home. His mother would look at him and she would know. She always knew. A hot tear ran down his cheek. She trusted him. He remembered the nice way she said, “You’re a little man now, Jess.” It made him sad when his mother’s words came back to him. Remembering this, he felt as if someone had stuck a sharp stick into his side. Her trust in him was all he could think about now. It drove everything else from his mind. The pipe and its magic power meant nothing. His dream of growing up meant nothing .
Looking at the long shadows of the trees coming towards him, Jess now knew what he had to do. He jumped out of the swing and started running. When he took the pipe, he left the store with slow unsure steps. Now his feet were quick decisive, taking him straight back to the store like an arrow. He ran along the sidewalk and reached the store soon. Mr. Watson was just inside the door. Suddenly and blindly, he held out the pipe. Mr. Watson gently took the pipe from the boy’s outstretched hand and patted him on the shoulder.Jess felt the warmth of Mr Watson’s big hand, and felt his shoulders had become a little broader and stronger.

四、Possible version 1:
Hearing this, I took the steps two at a time to the cellar. The next second I was in front of the shelf. I stood on tiptoe and took down the jar carefully. I could hear Dad and Mom laughing upstairs and Mom’s hands slapping the dough. Wanting to join them, I hurried up the steps, and my foot caught on the middle one. I put out my hand to steady myself, but I tumbled down. The jar slipped through my fingers and smashed on the floor. The jam we’d been saving and saving flew everywhere. Wrong-footed, I burst into tears and heard Dad’s footsteps closer and closer.
“Never mind, boy, accidents happen,” Dad said and wiped my tears. These words seemed to have magic and gradually I settled down. Through the shirt, I could smell the dust of the train and the city as well as that of Dad’s. How I wished I hadn’t hurried. “Next time I will be more careful,” I thought to myself. Having swiftly dealt with the mess, Dad lifted me onto his shoulder and went back to Mom. “Now out of the kitchen, you two,” Mom said, “I'm going to bake my mama’s sugar pie, without apple jam!” I followed Dad out and helped him fix that old creaking gate until Ma called us in for Thanksgiving dinner.
Possible version 2:
Hearing this, I took the steps two at a time to the cellar. “No problem.” I jumped at the request and rushed downstairs. The jar just stood quietly on the shelf, but it seemed a bit high. I climbed up the chair nearby and extended my arms as long as possible. When I just grasped the jar, I lost my balance and fell down. I couldn’t help crying. What made me sad was not the pain but the jam — now scattered everywhere. There came Dad’s footsteps and Mom’s voice, “Are you hurt ” I shook my head slightly. She helped me up and asked me to go upstairs. With heavy footsteps, I moved slowly and tears welled up in my eyes.
“Never mind, boy, accidents happen,” Dad said and wiped my tears. “But I ruined your homecoming dinner.” Sorrow overwhelmed me and I kept sobbing. “No, my son,” Dad smiled gently, “My homecoming dinner is not about pies, but about you and Mom.” Hearing this, I stopped sobbing, “But what can we eat tonight ” “How about an apple pie without apple jam ” Mom came upstairs and cut in. Dad and I exchanged a glance and nodded. After a while, I found myself sitting in the chair, but this time, I sat in the middle between Dad and Mom.
(We can go without apple jam. Why not make a pie with apple jam )
(…but this time, I sat with Dad on the left and Mom on the right.)
Possible version 3:
Hearing this, I took the steps two at a time to the cellar. “Yes! Madam.” I saluted, acting as if I were a solider. I ran downstairs as fast as my legs could carry me. After a while, I jumped upstairs with the jar in both hands, humming a joyful tune. But after I handed the jar to Mom, things went crazy. Mom was busy slapping the dough and asked me to pass her the sugar. Instead of scooping a bowl of it, I held the sack up. Just at that very moment, the sugar sack slipped away and all the sugar ended up on the mud floor. Realizing I spoiled Dad’s homecoming dinner, I burst into tears.
“Never mind, boy, accidents happen,” Dad said and wiped my tears. “I meant to help,” I whimpered, “but... I should have scooped some of it...” Dad squatted down and brushed the hair out of my eyes. “Next time it will just be fine.” I looked into Dad’s eyes and nodded. Dad lifted me onto his shoulder and turned to Mom, “Dear, can we make a sugar-free apple pie ” Mom, who had been watching us lovingly, replied “Of course!” and began to work on it. On that Thanksgiving evening, beside the wooden table sat three of us, I myself between Mom and Dad. Though sugar-free, the apple pie tasted sweeter than ever before.

五、Ten minutes later, Simba and I were walking in the nearby park. It had already been bathed in the rising sun. Enjoying the fresh air and birds singing, I felt refreshed and so did Simba. He led me into a dancing group and then began to run about loosely, sometimes playing with a dog, sometimes coming back to my side. It was amazing that I gradually shook my body to the cheerful melody. On our way home, a pet owner stopped to share experience of keeping pets. Unconsciously, morning walks became a routine
As time went by, I found myself totally changed. Inspired by the bravery of Simba, I could leave my house without tears. Every time I felt down or defeated, my puppy would keep me company quietly and I would pour out all my inner thoughts to him. Whenever I got home, he greeted me by licking my hands and jumping up and down. Everything seemed to take a turn for the better. Not until then did I truly understand my therapist's advice. Thanks to Simba, my friend and instructor, it was he that restored my life.
