Callie’s Gift
Callie opened a letter she got in the mail. It was an invitation (邀请) from the
parents of her friend Michael. They were giving him a surprise birthday party in an
expensive hotel. Callie wanted to get Michael the perfect gift. At first, her plan was
to make him a bookmark (书签) because they both loved reading. But that wouldn’t
work anymore. Clearly, a fancy (奢华的) party called for a fancy gift.
One day in class, she saw Michael checking the time. She came up with an idea. A
watch! There were lots of expensive watches in the store. It would be the perfect gift.
Callie went to a store to buy one. She saved some money from her part-time job
and it was just enough to buy the watch. Even though it was expensive, she was
relieved (松了一口气) because she had gotten the perfect gift.
The night of the party, Callie heard about all the gifts everyone prepared for
Michael. Richard got Michael a toy gun, the kind they had played with as kids.
Molly made Michael a big card. And Jasmine baked a box of Michael’s favorite
biscuits.
Callie could picture Michael’s warm smile as he saw the toy gun, the card, and
the biscuits. Then she pictured the confused (困惑的) look on his face when he saw
the expensive watch. Callie thought of the price of the watch, and she blushed (脸红).
Callie was lost in thought for a moment. Finally, she decided to go with her first
plan: a handmade bookmark. She secretly put the watch in her handbag. Luckily, she
still had the receipt (购物小票). Her gift would be late, but at least it would be special.
36.Where did Michael have his birthday party
A.In his house. B.In the classroom. C.In a hotel.
37.What gift did Callie buy for Michael
A.A card. B.A watch. C.Biscuits.
38.What will Callie probably do next
A.She will buy an expensive gift.
B.She will find a new part-time job.
C.She will make a bookmark for Michael.
39.What can we learn from the passage
A.The perfect gift doesn’t have to cost a lot.
B.People always need fancy birthday parties.
C.There’s no need to give friends birthday gifts.

Most of us enjoy traveling with friends, but sometimes it’s just not possible, as
life gets in the way. Traveling alone becomes your only choice if you want to see the
world! Here are three reasons (理由) why travelling alone is fun.
1.You can do whatever you want to do.
While traveling alone, there’s no social pressure (社会压力) to do things you
don’t want to do in order to keep others happy. You become your own guide,
timekeeper and trip planner. You are free to plan as you like! You don’t have to
worry about what your friends think of you for talking to people they may not like.
You don’t have to stay bored on the beach because your brothers or sisters don’t
want to visit your favorite museum. You’ve got far more freedom to be able to do the
things without feeling any pressure.
2.It gets you out of your comfort zone (舒适区).
We feel comfortable when we are traveling with people we know. That’s
because we think we have that safety net to fall back on, if something goes wrong.
Traveling alone, however, makes you suddenly responsible (为……负责 ) for
everything, and it makes you grow up quickly. You have to learn about the city you
visit. You have to go and eat meals on your own and find your own way using a map.
When in another country, you have to know how to use the language and make
yourself understood.
3.__________
While traveling alone, you will almost always make friends and speak to new
people. You have to eat, drink and visit interesting places and it is so easy to make
new friends with other travelers. You can go to online language learning groups or
activities in the evenings. And if you happen to get lost, it’s often a great way to talk
with people and find something interesting you didn’t know before.
40.While traveling alone, ______.
A.there is a lot of social pressure
B.you can plan what you want to do
C.your friends won’t worry about you
41.The underlined part probably means ______.
A.we have responsibilities for everything
B.we have a nice place to live and work
C.we have someone else to help us out
北京市西城区 2021—2022 学年度第二学期期末试卷 七年级英语 第 7 页(共 10 页)

A.You can get to know new places.

It is not new to use robots to help children in special needs schools. In the past,

Mary and Emma sat in the principal’s (校长) office because they broke the glass

Mary and Emma shared a look but neither spoke.
北京市西城区 2021—2022 学年度第二学期期末试卷 七年级英语 第 9 页(共 10 页)
“If I don’t know what happened, I have to punish (惩罚) you both,” Mr. Barlow
said.
“She did it!” Mary said.
“No, you did,” Emma said.
“Mary, why don’t you explain what happened first Then Emma, you’ll tell the
story from your perspective (视角).”
“I was looking at Mrs. Thimble’s glass apple. The sun was shining on it, and it
made a rainbow (彩虹) on the desk. I thought the rainbow would get bigger if we
moved the apple.”
“So you moved it ” Mr. Barlow asked.
Mary pointed at Emma. “She did, but the rainbow got smaller. I tried to get the
apple back, but it fell on the floor and broke.”
Emma started to argue (争辩), but Mr. Barlow stopped her. “Thank you, Mary.
Emma, tell me what happened in your words.”
“Mary said she wanted to make the rainbow bigger, so I tried to show her, but
she said the rainbow was getting smaller and she could do it better. She tried to take
it, and the apple fell.”
Mr. Barlow stood up, “Do you want to know what I think ”
They nodded.
“I think Mary wanted to make the rainbow bigger and Emma tried to help.”
“Yes!” Emma said.
“Not so fast,” Mr. Barlow said. “Emma, you believed you could make the
rainbow bigger but Mary didn’t want to. You two argued, the apple fell and broke.
Does that sound right ”
“So, we’re both wrong,” Mary said.
“Yes. The real problem isn’t who broke the apple, but is that you both touched
something that was not yours.” Mr. Barlow said.
“I guess we did,” Emma said.
“Do you think Mrs. Thimble will forgive (原谅) us ” Mary asked.
“I think you both learned a valuable (宝贵的) lesson,” Mrs. Thimble said,
