Analysis of Teaching Material
“You Are What You Eat.” is the first lesson of Unit 7 Sports and Good Health, which is based on a dialogue between Jenny and Danny. After the lesson, students will realize the importance of being healthy, and learn to develop good eating habits.
Teaching Aims:
1. Students can master the new words and phrases ”truth, decide, change, health, awful, as usual, have a dream, decide to…”
2. Students can read the dialogue and find out the things happened in Danny’s dream.
3. Enable the Students to distinguish healthy food and junk food.
4. Students can talk about their own eating habits and work in groups to share the methods of developing good eating habits.
5. Students could understand the French saying and Chinese saying about eating habits.
Key Point
Master some target words related to eating habits and introduce their own eating habits.
Difficult Point
Give Danny some suggestions about his eating habits.

Step 1 Leading in
1. Greetings. (Students can have a relax and lead to the next question)
2. Lead in by the question “Did you have your breakfast ”
Then tell students“ I had 4 hamburgers this morning. I was starving, but when I
was eating the fourth hamburger, I remembered a film I watched before. Do you want to watch it ”
3. Students will enjoy the video of “Spirited Away” and think about a questions
“What happened to the little girls parents.”
(The film of “Spirited Away” can lead to today’s topic and students can think about the sentence“You are what you eat” )
4. Write down the title of lesson 37, You Are What You Eat.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Show the students some pictures of different kinds of food, like vegetables, fruit, fast food, ect, and ask them to distinguish healthy food and junk food.
(Students can have a good knowledge of different kinds of food, and distinguish what is good for us, and what is bad us. )
2. Ask students to talk about their favourite food.
(Have a simple understanding of their eating habits.)
3. Show a picture of Danny and ask students what Danny’s favourite food is.
Step 3 Reading
1.Listening. Watch the video and think what is Danny having for lunch
(In this part, students can develop their listening skills and try to catch key information.)
2.Reading.
Read the dialogue with their deskmates and discuss the questions.
1) How many donuts did Danny eat yesterday evening
(Explain as usual. And lead to the phrase “bad eating habits”)
2)What happened to Danny in his dream
(Explain “have a dream, decide to, change” and ask students to read the dialogue and act like Danny.)
3)What did Danny’s uncle say to him
3.Understand the sentence “You are what you eat”in different situation.
1) Students will talk about the question “What will happen if Danny eats too many donuts.”
2)Choose the right meaning of the sentence.
3) Understand the French saying and find out the related Chinese saying.
(Develop their reading skills and learn to analyze the context. )
Step 4 Consolidation
1.Work in groups to talk about the suggestions you can give to Danny about developing good eating habits.
2.Choose a leader to write down your suggestions to Danny.
3.The group leader will share their suggestions with the classmates.
(Group work can help students to work in groups and develop their cooperative learning methods. During this process, students can share and exchange their thoughts on this question.)
Step 5 Summary
1.Sing an English song and students will find out the importance of forming good eating habits.
(Students can find out why we shouldn’t eat too much junk food and learn to develop good eating habits from this song )
2.Show the determination of developing good eating habits.
Step 6 Homework
1.Do an investigation about your parents’ eating habits.
2. Give them some suggestions about developing good eating habits.
