Possible version three: The Red-crowned Crane
In China, the red-crowned crane is regarded a very special animal. This graceful creature has white feathers and long legs. As their name implies, they also have a red crown on their head.
In traditional Chinese paintings, the cranes are often shown standing on pine trees. But in reality, they mainly live in the wetlands, where they can have easy access to water creatures which they feed on. Apart from its elegant appearance, they are even more eye-catching when they are performing dances. They look exactly like ballet dancers!
This bird is so cherished in Chinese culture. It is known as a symbol of luck, longevity(长寿) and loyalty. Its cultural meaning, along with its beautiful and elegant posture, makes them unique.
Possible version one: Panda
When talking about iconic animals in China, the first thing that comes to my mind is definitely the giant panda.
The panda is one of the rarest animals in the world. It is a large animal with black and white fur and lives in the mountains of China. People’s “black eyes” are compared to panda’s eyes. Looking quiet and lovely, it can actually be fierce (凶猛的). When it roars, the noise is like a train passing through a tunnel. Do you know how much it loves bamboo An adult panda eats 10-18 kilograms of bamboo each day. And it spends 12-16 hours a day finding and eating bamboo.
Serving as a peace ambassador, pandas have been sent to other countries as gifts, where they have received a warm welcome.
Possible version two: Milu deer
Have you ever heard of the milu deer It is commonly called “Sibuxiang” in China as it partly shares physical characteristics with four animals: horse, deer, cattle and donkey (驴).
It is a kind of giant grass-eating animal. The adult male milu deer can weigh as much as 250 kilograms, be as tall as 1.3 meters and as long as two meters. They live together and also feed on the soft parts of trees. The milu deer is an endangered animal. In China, it represents good fortune. The history of the milu deer is a dramatic species-survival story. Before they disappeared in China, some were taken to Britain and survived. Luckily, in 1983 the first milu deer was returned to the Nanhaizi Milu Park 20 kilometers south of Beijing, where they are being well protected and cared for. Now the number of the milu deer is increasing steadily.
