Even at the age of 82, Han Tongyuan still exercises every day on his in-line skates in Beishan Park. His skillful performance always got a lot of attention, but few of his fans know that he was once a national skiing champion（滑雪冠军）.
Han, a retired driver in Jilin, was the 20-kilometer cross-country skiing champion at the first National Ski Games in 1957. In fact, Han began to learn skiing to improve his ability to herd（放牧）sheep.
Born in a village at the foot of Beishan Mountai in Jilin, Han was always helping his family herd sheep as a child. It was really difficult to follow the sheep in snow-covered mountain areas, so Han made a simple snowboard to practice skiing. Every day he skied dozens of kilometers, and several months later he could move faster than the sheep.
After winning his second championship at the second National Ski Games in 1958, he really wanted to take part in the Winter Olympics. However, Han didn’t get the chance before he retired from the skiing team in 1963 and then he became a driver. But he never gave up on his enthusiasm for skiing. Every winter, Han goes to the professional ski center in the city, and in other seasons, he glides on his in-line skates in the park.

What is it like to exercise in space Simple things can be harder in microgravity (微重力), while difficult tasks might suddenly be a breeze. A video on Tuesday shows that Zhai Zhigang, one of the astronauts of Shenzhou ⅩⅢ space -ship, is practising tai chi with flowing movements (流畅的动作).
The three astronauts Zhai Zhigang, WangYaping and Ye Guangfu have been in space for about two months since they began their six-month mission (任务) to build the space station on October16th. Chinese people have long been wondering what really goes on inside the space station. While people were still surprised by Wang Yaping’s zero-gravity hairstyle, Zhai showed his “flying” skill and was clearly very good at it.
Zhai was not the first who practiced tai chi in spaceship. The tradition of Chinese astronauts practising tai chi started in 2012 when the country’s Shenzhou Ⅸ astronaut Liu Yang first did so in space and called the experience comfortable. Before returning from the Shenzhou Ⅻ mission in September, astronaut Nie Haisheng also practised tai chi in the Tianhe core module during an Earth-space video call with HongKong youths.
For space travellers, doing exercise is important. They must exercise to counter (抵消) the gravity-free conditions as the experience of “muscle and bone loss (肌肉和骨质流失)” in space will influence their health and ability to work in the long term.
Besides doing tai chi, Chinese astronauts also play table tennis or ride a bike and run on a treadmill (踏步机) to help train their breathing.
