教材分析 This writing part is a module task at the end of Module8, which is to improve the ability of telling a story. In the previous units of this module, the story of “Goldilocks and Three Bears” has been learnt. In Unit1, the book leads into the story by listening to several students’ talking. In Unit2, the whole story is presented and focused on the reading comprehension. In Unit3, the language points about grammar and past simple tense are clarified and drilled. Therefore, this writing section will be the advanced challenge after learning how to tell a story, and how to use past simple tense accurately.
学情分析 The students in this class are Level A, that is, they are good at English, especially in spoken English. On one hand, most students are quite active and are willing to show themselves and talk in English in class. However, they need more help in writing. When they write they may make all kinds of mistakes in spelling, grammar even punctuation. On the other hand, the reading and grammar sections in this textbook are a bit easy. As for these students, writing is much more difficult than other sections. Therefore, it is very necessary for the teacher to design a more challenged writing task for the students in Level A and to provide more opportunities for them to inspire their imagination.

过程与方法 Learning the tense in a story by reviewing the text in Unit 2. Learning a model text by reading the passage and picture. Learning the elements of good writing by group discussing. Practicing writing a draft version by describing pictures and adding necessary descriptions about details. Improving writing skills by peer corrections.

Step 1 Lead-in & Review Show students several pictures of “Goldilocks and Three Bears.” Encourage students to make a chain story with the help of pictures and prompts. Indicate the tense they use in the story. Observe the pictures and take turns to describe each picture, with the help of the prompts. Indicate the tense of past simple should be used when telling a story. To arouse their interests in today’s lesson and review how to tell a story.
Step 2 Reading Prediction Show students a picture of President Xi, then make them to guess what happened. Gist reading Show students the whole story which is harder than the Goldilock’s. Let students order the 3 pictures according to the story. Language/Layout focus Lead students to shorten the story in three sentences Lead students to clarify the structure and to underline the elements of writing Make a prediction according to the pictures. Order the pictures after the gist reading. Highlight the elements of writing and learn the structure of the story. To present the elements of writing
Step 3 Writing the draft version Encourage students to write the elements of their stories, according to the pictures. Let students add some detailed description to each element of their stories. Get the students to put up the picture and the 1st draft version on the show card, then get them to rearrange the elements and descriptions in a more logical order. 1.Write down the elements of your story, according to the pictures. 2.Add at least one item of detailed description to each element of your story. 3.Put up the picture and the 1st draft version on the show card, meanwhile, rearrange the elements and descriptions in a more logical order. To consolidate the use of elements of writing.
Step 4 Peer correction Display several students’ work Choose one story to make a sample of correction by the teacher. Let students exchange their stories in a group and encourage them to correct mistakes for each other, emphasizing the use of correction symbols. Display 1-2 students’ stories, lead other students to give comments. Exchange the drafted stories and try to correct mistakes. Read the others’ stories carefully and give some comments. To polish the story; and to comment others’ stories.
Step 5 Homework Rewrite the story accurately and post the picture and your story on your “wechat moments”. Let’s see who will get the most “thumb-ups”.
