different high school. Even if you know other freshmen(新生),you still feel nervous that you don't know any upper-classmen. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces
Most high schools hold a freshman orientation(训练)before school actually starts. The work in high school is something freshmen are probably worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learned in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult. teachers can give you extra help.
High school also has more after-school activities than middle school did, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Middle school taught you the basics of academics, time management, and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. High school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.

Have you ever dreamt of being among the people talked about on a celebrity blog(名人博客) Well, more than 140 junior high and high school students from Edmonton, Alberta don't have to dream any longer. An inter-school project they worked on was so successful that Perez Hilton blogged about it, which is surprising since his blog is usually for celebrities. They did a flash mob(快闪)in a shopping center with the main message being “stand up to bullying(霸凌)”.
Over 140 students, aged from 12 to 17, participated in the anti-bullying flash mob, dancing to a well-known song called Loser Like Me. “We actually had almost too many; we had to cut back on the number at each school,” said Kristina Solikowski, one organizer of the event.
“I was just really excited!” Said Olivia Brassard, a grade seven student at RS Fowler School. Being one of the younger student dancers, Olivia couldn’t get over her nerves at the start. “I was a little shy because I had to interact(互动) with a lot of grade eights and nines, but after, I got more comfortable,” said Olivia.
The reason why Olivia got involved(参加)was partly for the fun of dancing but also because she really believed in the message that bullies are bad!“I thought it would be a good way to spread the word about the bullying that goes on in our society," said Olivia.
Olivia's friend Allison Wood, a grade eight student at St. Albert Catholic High School, got involved for the same reason as Olivia, “I don't think it's going to be possible to stop bullying all together, but I think we can certainly decrease it," explains Allison.
These students have set a good example for kids everywhere. There's no better way to decrease something bad than by getting people together to do something good, right

Wondering whether it’s worth going for a little jog A new study shows that any amount of running lowers the risk of premature(过早的) death.
In an analysis(分析) of 14 previous studies-from the US, the UK, China and Denmark ----the group of researchers from Australia, Thailand and Finland said that increased running participation“would probably lead to improvements in population health.”
The studies they used included 232149 participants over time periods ranging from 5.5 to 35 years. Overall, people who ran any distance were connected with a 27% lower risk of death from all causes than those who did not, one of the studies shows. Running was also connected with a 30% and23% lower risk of death from heart-related disease and cancer, respectively(分别地).
Lead researcher Zeljko Pedisié, a professor at Victoria University in Melbourne, told CNN: “Our findings may motivate physically inactive people to take up running and those who already run to keep on doing it.”He added that doctors “may be encouraged by our findings to let more people realize that running is a part of 'lifestyle medicine’”
In their paper, which will be printed in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, the researchers say health professionals are sometimes looking out for the possible danger of encouraging people to run“because vigorous exertion(剧烈运动)has been connected with sudden death.”
Pedisié and his team disagree with this by noting that “the benefit of running is more important than the risk.” However, they do say advice should be given on a case-by-case basis, as running might not be proper for everyone. And although running has a clear health benefit, Pedisié points out that higher“doses(剂量)”of running may not necessarily reduce the risk of premature death further.
32. What does the research mainly focus on
A The influence of running on health.
B. The possible risks of running.
C. The proper way to run.
D. The best time to run.
33.What does the underlined word “motivate” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Teach.
B. Force.
C. Inspire.
D. Require.
34.What might be health professionals’ attitude to the research findings
A. Totally uninterested.
B. Strongly supportive.
C. A bit disappointed.
D. A little worried.
35.What is Pedisic’s advice to people choosing running as a form of exercise
A. Running regularly.
B. Taking professional advice.
C. Warming up before running.
D. Considering one’s personal condition

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One day, my brother and I were in our apartment. My parents had both gone for a party and had left me in charge of everything. I was doing my homework while my younger brother was watching TV. All of a sudden, the doorbell rang. Ding dong! Ding-dong! My younger brother had rushed to the door before I decided to answer the door. We both thought that our parents had come home. As a result, he unlocked the door and opened it.
Outside of the house stood a man who wore a black raincoat and black rubber boots. He looked no different from other people and said that he was a salesman and asked politely if our mother or father was at home so he could talk with them.
Without thinking, my brother said,“No.”He asked if we would like to buy some comic books(漫画书),which he was selling. I quickly explained to him that we were not supposed to buy anything without our parents permission. However, it seemed that he was not willing to follow my advice and he had an intention to enter our house.
Then, I realized something terrible would happen. As I was about to close the door, he forced his way into our house, He forced me to tie up my brother's hands with the rope which he took out from his pocket. I tied up his hands but tied it in a special way so my brother could untie(解开) it himself as we often did. The man then tied my hands up and locked both of us in the kitchen.
Soon, he went upstairs to search the bedroom for something valuable. I managed to teach my brother to untie the rope on his hands, He then untied it for me, I rushed to the telephone to call the police, but the line was dead.注意:续写词数应为150左右。
The doors were all locked from the outside and what's

One possible version:
The freshmen in our school watched a film called Aftershock in the school hall yesterday afternoon.
The film is set in the 1976 Tangshan earthquake. It tells a story about a family of four. During the earthquake, the father died and the rest of the family survived. But the earthquake changed their life. The film follows the life of the mother and her twin children over the next 32 years.
Our students got a lot from the film. We realized how powerful and deadly earthquakes can be. We also saw acts of support, love, and kindness in times of disaster.
One possible version:
Three years later, my dad had completely recovered and decided to do volunteering again. One day he returned to that local children's hospital and went to the room where the sick girl used to stay. Of course, the girl wasn't there. He felt sad, thinking he would never see her again. Suddenly, the door opened and in walked a girl. It was the girl he had missed so much! She walked straight over to my dad and hugged him tightly. She gave him a picture she had painted with her hands.
In the next hour, the girl told my dad how she became healthy again. She said she never thought she could walk one day. It was my dad's love and encouragement that helped her work wonders. She learned to face her difficulty bravely and kept on practicing walking and painting every day.“Without your love and help, I could never walk again," said the girl thankfully. Now, you see, love can really be more powerful than doctors at times.
