Let’s listen for the first time and find out what the conversation is about. When listening, think about the question. This is a gist listening question, you don’t have to focus on the details yet, instead, just try to get the general idea of the topic. The question is: Which best describes the conversation a) Three students are interviewed about their English teachers’ feedback for a campus radio programme. b) Two students are talking about their English teachers’ feedback. c) Three teachers are talking about how they give feedback to students. Check answers. (a) Now let’s listen again for more detailed information. First write down the missing words to complete the table, so you can make out what each student says specifically about the teacher’s feedback and also pay attention to their tone of voice: Do they sound happy or not so much Check answers. The tone of voice shows the person’s feelings and attitude. And what are the exact words they say about how they feel. Now let’s listen for the last time complete the rest of the table. Let’s recall what we have listened and fill the blanks of the short paragraph to summarize. Check answers. Act out the interview It’s time for acting. You can work in groups of four on WeChat, one as the interviewer and the other three as the interviewees, and act out the interview with the help of the notes on your worksheet. For the interviewer, you can start by asking questions like: Hi, can I ask you some questions What kind of feedback do you usually receive from your English teacher How do you feel about it Why After listening to one side of the story, let’s see what teachers have to say about giving feedback. You can start by saying “I think the teacher should give us very specific feedback, because it makes students know where to improve.” To wrap up today’s lesson, we first listened to an interview of three students talking about their English teachers’ feedback for a campus radio programme and analyzed their opinions and attitudes. Then we listened to two professors talking about how to give feedback to students and studied how to exchange opinions and give reasons and more expressions to state opinions. Have a group/pair discussion. Choose three teachers who teach different subjects. Tell them what you liked about the feedback you have received from them in the past, and how you would like to receive their feedback in the future. 2. Write down your suggestions for your teachers on a card and give it to him / her.
