When Simon Cane was in the second grade, he began learning about all the ways humans have an impact on the environment and really took those classroom lessons to heart in a way that set him apart from his schoolmates at his elementary school, P. S. 81, in the Bronx. “He told me we drove too much and made too much pollution,” his dad, Jonathan Cane, told Runner’s World. So Simon convinced his parents to start hanging their clothes to dry, taking the stairs instead of elevators, and other “green” measures.
“For much of kindergarten and first grade I rode my bike to Simon’s school with him on the back,” Jonathan said. “We had a lot of fun being outdoors. We’d stop to give our dog treats and generally enjoyed it.” As Simon got bigger, though, it wasn’t practical for him to ride on his father’s back, but it also didn’t make sense to ride together — both because of safety concerns and because there was no place to put away Simon’s bike. So, most of the time they drove the 1. 5 miles to school.
But in 2019, when Simon was going into third grade, the 8-year-old came up with a new way to help the planet: running the 1. 5 miles to P. S. 81. And Jonathan promised his son he’d join him for as long as he wanted.
“We did a test run one day in August, and decided to give it a go. To be honest, I thought he’d blink (眨眼)after it got really cold or rainy, but he never did,” Jonathan said. He recalled one day when the weather was particularly bad. “It’s really raining out there today,” he told Simon. “And Simon said, ‘Well then we’re going to get wet!’ He took pride in toughing it out, and it became a really fun family routine.”
Since the start, Simon has run with his dad and their black dog, Lola, and has even inspired his mom, Nicole Sin Quee, to join in. They soon became known as “the family that runs to school”.
24.What makes Simon different from his classmates
A.Washing his clothes by himself. B.Taking many classes after school.
C.Raising strange questions in class. D.Taking green measures to protect the environment.
25.How did Simon usually go to school in second grade
A.By car. B.By cycling. C.By running. D.By school bus.
26.What can be inferred from paragraph 4
A.Simon has trouble with his eyesight. B.Simon is really stubborn and inflexible.
C.Simon is much tougher than expected. D.Simon didn’t get support from his father.
27.What can be the best title for the text
A.The Best Way to Go to School
B.Father and Son Run for the Environment
C.A Teenager Keeps Running to Inspire Father
D.Three Inspiring Running Athletes to Protect the Environment

A shocking 53.6 million tons of electronic waste were discarded(丢弃)last year, a new UN-backed report has revealed. The report shows that e-waste is up 21%from five years ago. This isn't surprising, considering how many more people are adopting new technology and updating devices regularly to have the latest versions, but the report also shows that national collection and recycling strategies are nowhere close to matching consumption rates.
E-waste contains materials including copper(铜), iron, gold and silver, which the report gives a conservative value of $ 57 billion. But most are thrown away or burned rather than being collected for recycling. Precious metals in waste are estimated to be worth $ 14 billion, but only $4 billion-worth is recovered at the moment.
While the number of countries with national e-waste policies has grown from 61 to 78 since 2014, there is little encouragement to obey and a mere 17% of collected items are recycled. If recycling does occur, it's often under dangerous conditions, such as burning circuit boards to recover copper, which "releases highly poisonous metals" and harms the health of workers.
The report found that Asia has the highest amounts of waste overall, producing 24.9 million metric tons (MMT), followed by Europe at 12 MMT, Africa at 2.9 MMT, and Oceania at 0.7 MMT.
But whose responsibility is it Are governments in charge of setting up collection and recycling points, or should companies be responsible for recycling the goods they produce It goes both panies do need to be held accountable by government regulations and have incentives to design products that are easily repaired. At the same time, governments need to make it easy for citizens to access collection points and deal with their broken electronics in a convenient way. Otherwise, they may turn to the easiest option-the landfill.
28.What can we learn from the first paragraph
A.What e-waste refers to.
B.Where e-waste is collected.
C.Why e-waste is increasing rapidly.
D.How many kinds e-waste includes.
29.What do the statistics in paragraph 2 show
A.The functions of policies.
B.The great damage to environment.
C.The change of consumption rates.
D.The urgency of recovering e-waste.
30.What is the problem with recycling e-waste at present
A.It does harm to the workers' health.
B.It lacks national policy support.
C.It hardly makes profits.
D.It takes too much time.
31.How should the problem be solved according to the passage
A.New technology should be used to update old devices.
B.Governments and companies should take responsibilities.
C.Non-poisonous metals had better be used in e-device.
D.Citizens must play a key role in recycling e-waste.

Art and science may seem like opposite things. One means the creative flow of ideas, and the other means cold, hard data—some people believe. In fact, the two have much in common. Now, a study finds art can help students remember better what they learned in science class.
Mariale Hardiman, an education specialist at Johns Hopkins University, noticed that students who used art in the classroom listened more carefully. They might ask more questions. They might volunteer more ideas. What's more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons had involved(涉及)art. To prove that, Hardiman teamed up with some researchers and six local schools.
In the experiment, the researchers worked with teachers in 16 fifth-grade classrooms. They provided traditional science lessons and art-focused ones. In a traditional science class, for example, students might read aloud from a book. In the art-focused one, they might sing the information instead.
The team randomly assigned(随机分配)each of the 350 students to either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one. Students then learned science using that way for the whole unit—about three weeks. When they changed to a new topic, they also changed to the other type of class. This way, each student had both an art-focused class and a traditional one. Every unit was taught in both ways, to different groups of students. This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes.
The team found that students who started off in traditional classes performed better after they moved into an art-focused class. But those who started in an art-focused class did well even when they went back to a traditional science class. These students appeared to use some of the art techniques(技巧)after going back to a traditional class. Classroom teachers reported that many students continued to sing the songs that they learned after finishing the unit. "The more we hear something, the more we retain it," Hardiman says. "It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own."
32.Why did Mariale Hardiman do the study
A.To prove the importance of art at school.
B.To know how to encourage students to ask questions.
C.To find a way to help her students learn better.
D.To see if art might improve science learning.
33.What were the students required to do in the experiment
A.Learn three units in total.
B.Choose what they'd like to learn.
C.Learn two topics for three weeks.
D.Take two types of classes.
34.What does the underlined word “retain” in the last paragraph mean
A.Remember. B.Express.
C.Improve. D.Finish.
35.What is the text mainly about
A.Art helps students develop creativity.
B.Art-focused classes interest students a lot
C.Art can make science easier to remember.
D.Art has something in common with science.

根据Prizes部分中第一段中的“Trip to Washington, D.C. for each of three winners, a parent and one other person of the winner's choice”可知,每位获奖者都可以带一名家长和另一名由获奖者选择的人员。 故选A。
根据Prizes部分中第三段“50 Honorable Mentions: Judges will choose up to 50 honorable mention winners, who will each receive a T-shirt in memory of Earhart's final flight”可知,每位优秀奖获奖者都将获得一件纪念埃尔哈特最后一次飞行的T恤。故选C。
根据最后一部分中的“Follow all rules carefully to prevent disqualification. Write a poem using 100 words or fewer”可知,所写的诗字数不能超过100字。
24.D 25.A 26.C 27.B
根据第一段“When Simon Cane was in the second grade, he began learning about all the ways humans have an impact on the environment and really took those classroom lessons to heart in a way that set him apart from his schoolmates at his elementary school, P. S. 81, in the Bronx.(当Simon Cane上二年级的时候,他开始学习人类对环境的所有影响,并真正把课堂上所学的内容牢记在心,在某种程度上这使他与布朗克斯的第81公立小学的同学们区别开来。)”以及“So Simon convinced his parents to start hanging their clothes to dry, taking the stairs instead of elevators, and other “green” measures.(所以,西蒙说服他的父母把衣服挂起来晾干,不坐电梯而走楼梯,以及采取其他“绿色”措施。)”
根据第二段“As Simon got bigger, though, it wasn’t practical for him to ride on his father’s back, but it also didn’t make sense to ride together — both because of safety concerns and because there was no place to put away Simon’s bike. So, most of the time they drove the 1. 5 miles to school. (然而,随着西蒙长大,骑在他爸爸自行车的后座,对他来说并不现实,但一起骑车也没有意义——既是出于安全考虑,也是因为没有地方放西蒙的自行车。所以大多数时候他们都开车1.5英里到学校。)”以及第三段“But in 2019, when Simon was going into third grade, the 8-year-old came up with a new way to help the planet: running the 1. 5 miles to P. S. 81. (但是在2019年,那时候8岁的西蒙上三年级,他提出了一个帮助地球的新方法:跑步1.5英里去布朗克斯第81公立小学。)”可推知,二年级时 Simon Cane主要是坐车去上学。故选A项。
根据第四段“‘To be honest, I thought he’d blink (眨眼)after it got really cold or rainy, but he never did,’ Jonathan said. (说实话,我以为天冷了或下雨了他就会犹豫一下,但他从来没有。)”可知,Simon Cane比预料的要坚强。故选C项。
27.主旨大意题。阅读全文,尤其是根据第一段“When Simon Cane was in the second grade, he began learning about all the ways humans have an impact on the environment and really took those classroom lessons to heart(当西蒙·凯恩上二年级的时候,他开始学习人类对环境的所有影响,并真正把课堂上学的内容牢记在心。)”以及最后一段“Since the start, Simon has run with his dad and their black dog, Lola, and has even inspired his mom, Nicole Sin Quee, to join in. They soon became known as “the family that runs to school.”( 从一开始,西蒙就和他的爸爸和他们的黑狗萝拉一起跑步,甚至还激励了他的妈妈 (Nicole Sin Quee)也加入进来。他们很快就被称为“跑去上学的家庭”。)”可知,本文主要讲述八岁的男孩 Simon Cane很重视环保,并且为环保做出的实际行动——和爸爸一起跑步去上学。故选B项。
28.C 29.D 30.A 31.B
由第一段最后一句“This isn't surprising, considering how many more people are adopting new technology and updating devices regularly to have the latest versions, but the report also shows that national collection and recycling strategies are nowhere close to matching consumption rates.”(这并不奇怪,考虑到有多少人正在采用新技术和定期更新设备以获得最新版本,但报告还显示,国家收集和回收战略远远不能达到与消费率相匹配的水平。)
根据第二段“E-waste contains materials including copper(铜), iron, gold and silver, which the report gives a conservative value of $ 57 billion. But most are thrown away or burned rather than being collected for recycling. Precious metals in waste are estimated to be worth $ 14 billion, but only $4 billion-worth is recovered at the moment.”(电子垃圾含有铜、铁、金和银等物质,报告给出的保守价值为570亿美元。
根据第三段最后一句“ If recycling does occur, it's often under dangerous conditions, such as burning circuit boards to recover copper, which "releases highly poisonous metals" and harms the health of workers.”(如果循环利用真的发生了,这个过程通常是在危险的条件下进行的,比如燃烧电路板回收铜,这会释放出剧毒金属,危害工人的健康。)
根据最后一段中“Are governments in charge of setting up collection and recycling points, or should companies be responsible for recycling the goods they produce It goes both ways.”(是政府负责设立回收点,还是公司负责回收他们生产的产品?
32.D 33.D 34.A 35.C
根据第二段“What's more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons had involved(涉及)art. To prove that, Hardiman teamed up with some researchers and six local schools.”(更重要的是,当科学课程涉及到艺术时,学生们似乎能记住更多他们所学到的东西。
根据第四段中“The team randomly assigned(随机分配)each of the 350 students to either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one.”(研究小组将350名学生随机分为两组,一组是传统的科学教室,另一组是艺术教室)以及“This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes.”(这使得研究人员能够看到学生在这两种类型的课堂上的表现)等内容可知,在实验中,学生被要求选两种类型的课。故选D。
根据画线词后的“It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own.”(这表明,艺术可以帮助学生应用创造性的自学方法)可知,艺术有助于学生的学习,因此此处是说我们听到的越多,我们记住(学到)的就越多,由此可知划线词词义为“记住”。A. Remember. 记住; B. Express. 表达;C. Improve.提高;D. Finish. 故选A 。
通读全文,特别是根据第一段中“Now, a study finds art can help students remember better what they learned in science class.”(现在,一项研究发现,艺术可以帮助学生更好地记住他们在科学课上学到的东西)可知,文章主要介绍艺术可以帮助学生更容易记住科学课上学到的东西。

36.根据文章第一段“Talking freely with your doctor can make you feel better and gives your doctor the information she or he needs to give you the best care. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to discuss something that is bothering you.” Here are some tips for talking with your doctor.(这里有一些与你的医生交谈的小建议。)
Remember, your doctor and other caregivers are on your side.(记住,你的医生和其他护理人员都站在你这边。)
38.根据文章“This will make it easier for you to answer questions about your symptoms(症状)and how medicines make you feel. It also makes it easier for you to bring up anything that you are worried about. Make sure to be honest about how you feel and how long you've felt that way.” Before your doctor's visit, keep notes on how you are feeling.(在你的医生来之前,记下你的感受。)
39.根据文章“Your medical history is a list of your illnesses, treatments, what the doctors told you to do, and anything else you think your doctor should know. Also, if you are allergic(过敏)to any medicines, be sure to mention that to your doctor.” Bring your medical history, including a list of your current medicines.(带上你的病史,包括你目前的药物清单。)
40.根据文章“Do not be afraid to ask your doctor any questions you have. To remember all the questions you have when you are not in the doctor's office, write them down and bring the list with you to your appointment.” 以及“Remember—there's no such thing as a stupid question. If you don't understand the answer to a question, ask the doctor to explain it again until you do understand.” This will make getting answers easier.(这将使获得答案更容易。)
