本单元的引言是现代奥运之父顾拜旦在90多年前提出的。他希望人人都有运动的权利和自由，但这在当时只是一个美好的愿望。随着人类文明的发展和社会的进步，这个愿望将不再遥不可及，中国现在普遍提倡的“全民运动”和“全民健身”，与这句话的含义有相通之处。
Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937) was only 1.62 metres tall, but by many measures, he was a giant (巨人) of the 20th century.
He was the founder of the modern Olympics. His campaign to promote athletic activities began as a lonely crusade (远征军), but it slowly gained support and he was able to organize the first modern Olympics in Athens in 1896. He was a founding member of the International Olympic Committee and served as its president from 1896 to 1925.
