Writing an ending to a story
读后续写
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I remember the first time I met Roy. He was standing among many boys and telling a joke. Everyone burst out laughing when he ended the joke. I thought he must be a popular boy. I was new to the class. Most classmates weren't very interested in me except Roy. Roy was kind to me. We became good friends and trusted each other. Unfortunately, five years later Roy's father died in a traffic accident. Roy's family had to move to a much smaller house in order to manage financially. Since then, Roy had become silent, and seemed to lose interest in his study.
One day, I found Roy going through the pockets of other classmates' coats in the
cloakroom. Later I heard some students say their money disappeared. Another time, our school had a big fair in order to raise money for charity. In the end, we made about &500, but to our surprise, the money was stolen. I decided to ask Roy about the theft. When I went to Roy's bedroom, Roy was out but I saw a lot of paper notes in his jacket's pocket. I felt so shocked and disappointed. At that moment, Roy came in.
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头已给出,不计入总词数;
Paragraph 1
After entering his bedroom, Roy sat on a chair without a word.
Paragraph 2
Then he told me what had happened to him.
比如根据第一段的提示句“We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me” ,可知David应该是非常沮丧,但是要描述他的沮丧,只能是老师根据具体的行为来断定学生的心情,而不是直接描写David自我是如何难受的。

It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn't with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school's coach and asked him what had happened. "I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him," he explained uncomfortably. "I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide."
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well — he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer — that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

Features are “people stories”,and are typically longer than standard news stories. (通常比常规新闻故事篇幅更长)Features are written in an individual style, with extra detail and background.
Feature stories typically start with a "hook" (开头)that gets the interest of the reader. The style of the first paragraph also needs to set the tone of the whole piece(奠定感情基调). The middle part contains the“ meat” of the story(主体部分),with the ending being a summary, a powerful quote or even a surprise for the reader.(简洁有力的名言、出人意料的结局)

He moved his lips several times but couldn’t say a word.I just smiled at him. “So do you still decide to give up the running ” “No.” he said, looking back at the running track. “Then go you!” I said.
