A job is more than just a job, especially to the older generation. “It's not the money that matters, but the sense of self worth.” 56 year old Cheng Wonlan said. So, every day Ms Cheng carries a bag of parcels, letters and documents of all shapes and sizes and does her rounds in North Point. She's a courier(快递人员).
Five years ago, Ms Cheng was a nurse at a private clinic. She had worked there for almost 30 years but was made jobless when the doctor migrated(移居). It was extremely difficult for her to find another job. “People do not trust my ability when they learn how old I am.” she said. After two years of searching, the mother of two eventually found another nursing job. But then after two years, she quit. Why
“My colleagues were young and they didn't understand me because of my age. They often asked me, ‘You are so old. What are you working for ’ I was very unhappy.” she said. So while the rest of her family left for work, she was left to lonely boredom at home. The urge to work drove her to suffering. Then, one of Ms Cheng's neighbours told her about Employee's Retraining Board (ERB) offering retraining courses for older people on specific occupations(职业), such as convenience store assistants, junior clerks and so on.
“I was interested in courier work. I didn't think my age was a barrier because I was fit and healthy. So I thought why not give it a try.” she said. Upon graduation from the ERB, Ms Cheng was offered a job by the Speeding Shuttle Courier Service Company Limited.
“Ms Cheng has been working with us for two months and has shown a good responsible attitude to work.” Anthony Chong, who runs the company, said. Mr Chong has 60 couriers working for his company: Five of them are over fifty, four of whom have been through the ERB plan. Mr Chong said he hired older people because they were able and reliable. “Age is not an important factor but attitude is. Many old people are more capable than the youngsters. They will not run from difficulties but the young ones will.” he said, “It is not easy to recruit (招募) young people since they shy away from hardship and challenges.”
24. Why was it difficult for Ms Cheng to find another nursing job
A. Nursing clinics were hard to find.
B. People thought that old people couldn't be trusted.
C. People thought she was too old to take on a new job.
D. People didn't think she had enough working experience.
25. Ms Cheng left her second nursing job because _________.
A. the other staff(职员) made her feel uncomfortable
B. it was too difficult
C. she was too old to do the job
D. she was bored with changeless jobs
26. Employee's Retraining Board(EBR) is a plan for ________.
A. finding jobs for older people
B. teaching new skills to older people
C. training older people to be couriers
D. providing older people something to do in their spare time
27. According to Anthony Chong, young people ___________.
A. are able and reliable
B. are more likely to give up than the older ones
C. are fitter and stronger than the older ones
D. are less experienced than the older ones

Binge-watching(追剧) your favorite TV series is bad for your brain. Dr. Randall Wright, based in Texas, said the need to watch episode(集) after episode has a similar influence on the brain to gambling(赌博). What's more, it often leads to social loneliness, snacking on junk food and a shortage of exercise and sleep, which, over time, is bad for the brain.
“When you let auto play start the next episode, you can find out what happens next and your brain receives good feedback.” Dr. Wright wrote in an article. This right-away satisfaction is similar to gambling where even after a win, you are not satisfied and want to continue playing. With binge-watching, you are not satisfied with stopping after episode five and want to continue watching. This cycle coupled with the snacking and the long time sitting can lead to unhealthy changes in your brain and body over time.
Dr. Wright said, “Binge-watching itself is not bad. It becomes problematic when you are watching a third, fourth or fifth episode instead of doing healthy activities.” But he said it is possible to avoid the bad influence of binge-watching with four tips, including staying away from salty, fatty and calorific foods, exercising before a binge-watching, setting an alarm for sleep and balancing TV viewing with socializing.
If you add these tips to your binge-watching practice, you can create lasting healthy habits and still enjoy the now-and-then binge-watching time without hurting your brain.
28. What might “it” in paragraph 1 refer to
A. Gambling. B. Binge-watching. C. TV series. D. Brain.
29. In what way is binge-watching like gambling
A. The long time sitting. B. The changes of feeling.
C. The snacking on junk food. D. The immediate satisfaction.
30. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The tips on how to develop a healthy lifestyle.
B. The reasons why binge-watching is problematic.
C. The ways to keep away from binge-watching.
D. Do's and don'ts of binge-watching.
31. What may be the best title of the passage
A. The Result of the Addiction
B. Healthy Habits: A Must of A Better Life
C. Binge-watching: A Killer of Your Brain
D. TV-Viewing: Gradual Harm on Your Health

How to Make New Friends
When you start high school, you need to make some new friends because your old friends may be away from you now. It’s not easy to make new friends, but it’s important to make new friends. Good friends help you to be happier. 32 Here are some tips to help you make new friends at high school.
Be confident after you enter high school. People like making friends with those who are confident. 33 Smile and ask them their names if they’ve seen a new movie or if they like a sport or activity. Sit in the middle of the classroom so that a lot of people will sit around you.
34 Don’t change who you are to fit in or please other people. Many people can know it if you aren’t being yourself—don’t try too hard to fit in. There isn’t another person like you, so remember that and accept the fact that you’re special.
Enjoy your new friends. Do something small but nice for them. 35 If you can, try and meet up with your friends outside of school and really get to know them. Enjoy yourself and enjoy being with your friends.
Be a good friend. Being good friends is about trusting each other and caring for each other. It’s about give-and-take. 36 Try to understand your friends’ points of view. Think about their feelings. If you’re a good friend to others, you’ll enjoy friendships that can last long.
They can help you do better at school.
Be there for your friends when you’re needed.

概要写作(满分15分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的概要。
Modern day robots may not be as entertaining as R2D2 or the robot from “Lost in Space”,but robots are very important to space exploration and are being used in a variety of different ways for several important reasons.
Robots make great explorers on planets, moons, and other landing areas. Apart from the Earth, just about every surface in the solar system is unsafe for humans to explore. The air on most other planets is insufficient for humans to breathe, making it necessary to wear a space suit and oxygen equipment. The temperatures on these surfaces are much too hot or much too cold for any humans to withstand. Besides, there would be complications with radiation, weather, and a lack of gravity. Robots have much less limitation in these areas and can survive much longer under these conditions.
Robots are designed for collecting scientific data. Robots are also able to perform many tasks at one time and can process information much quicker and more efficiently. Important scientific projects from detecting minerals, analyzing ground samples(样本), to finding water are all performed much quicker and accurately by robots.
The use of robots has made the cost of space exploration much less expensive than it would cost for humans to do the work. In order to successfully send humans into space we would need to build a vehicle that can not only carry humans, but also enough food and water to keep them alive for the duration of the trip. Moreover, robots have no problems working for hours on end. Robots never complain, they don't require food or water, and they never need a bathroom break.
Over the past 30 years or so there have been many different types of robots used successfully in the exploration of space. Perhaps the most famous and successful robots are Spirit and Opportunity who have both been exploring the surface of Mars. They have both been very successful with experiments on soil and rocks and have even found evidence of water in Mars' history.
