What do you think the travel journal talks about according to the title and the illustrations
The travel journal might talk about the thoughts people have when they look at one of an artist’s works for the first time. It gives a different impression every time one looks at it. The title “First impressions”, together with the pictures, also reminds me of the Impressionist painters and their unique techniques. The travel journal could mention how they used the techniques, what effects they created, as well as the reasons why artists used them.
Why do people visit art museums
People visit art museums to appreciate the artists’ spectacular masterpieces and to be inspired by creativity. They instil a sense of awe that someone created something so beautiful or unique. Visiting art museums is also one way to learn about cultures, beliefs and traditions. Art museums let us see a country’s history through its art. They are the pride of a country because they showcase its creative intelligence.

Which of the following do you think is most likely to be an Impressionist painting Give your reasons.
I think the painting in the middle is most likely an Impressionist painting because it is probably a normal everyday scene for the painter. The boat and its surrounding scene are just an impression of what the painter saw so they are not painted in clear detail — the soft edges of the boats, factory chimneys, sea and sky seem to mix together. This tells me that the painter used the Impressionist free brushwork technique. The painter also used light and vivid colours to express his or her feelings.
If you were a tour guide of the Musée d'Orsay, how would you introduce the museum to the visitors
The Musée d’Orsay is a world-famous art museum in Paris, France. It is unusual because it was previously used as a railway station. This museum is famous for its large collection of paintings from the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements of the 19th century. It also displays masterpieces from masters such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. A visit to the Musée d’Orsay allows visitors to look at and compare the different styles between the two art movements. They can enjoy looking at the world from an entirely new point of view.
Vincent van Gogh was one of the most gifted artists of his generation. He began working in an art (1) _______ when he was 16 years old. However, it was not until more than a (2) _______ later that he started to seriously consider being an artist himself.
Van Gogh became depressed after he moved to London. In 1880, he took up painting, from which he drew much comfort. I prefer to see the works by the Post-Impressionists for two reasons. Firstly, I am familiar with quite a few works by the Impressionists and have already acquired some knowledge about their painting styles. Therefore, I am eager to know how they influenced the Post-Impressionists. What did the Post-Impressionists focus on How did the Post-Impressionists employ brushwork and colours These questions often haunt me. Secondly, Vincent van Gogh is my favourite painter and he belonged to the Post-Impressionists, so I want to learn more about him and to see his works with my own eyes.
