Do your eyes need everyday attention
When/Where did the story happen
Who put rubbish into different bags
On the first day of school, our professor introduced a little old lady to us.
问题:Who did the professor introduce on the first day of school
A little old lady.
What is the main idea of the passage /What is the passage mainly about /What is the purpose of the writer’s writing the passage /What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us /What does the writer want to tell us
Each educational system has its own advantages. For example, the Japanese students learn more math and science than American students by the end of high school. The advantage of the educational system in America is that students learn to think by themselves. The teaching method makes them more creative.
问题:What does the writer want to tell us
Each educational system has its own advantages.
But what about blue food
Children still preferred the sweets that were the usual colors of red, green, brown, yellow and orange.
This is perhaps why we don’t usually use blue food coloring for drinks, cakes and other food.
Some people say we eat with our eyes.
So will we ever see blue foods on our plates The answer seems to be “no”, at least in countries like the UK and the USA.
问题:What is the passage mainly about
People don’t like the blue food and the reasons.
I never knew her and nor did I know what to do, but I was there, saying some comforting words to a stranger in pain. I asked her to stand still for a few minutes. We then looked for a place for her to sit. From out of nowhere, her friend joined us.
问题:What did the writer do for the girl
The writer said some comforting words to her and looked for a place for her to sit.
According to an international survey in 2016, young people in emerging(新兴的)countries like China and India have a greater sense of hope for the future, compared with those living in developed areas such as Europe, North America and Australia.

It was found that 53% of those questioned in China thought the world was becoming a better place—the highest among the countries surveyed. Some of them also felt hopeful about the future because of the development of technology.
However, young people in France, Italy and Turkey had a pessimistic outlook on the future.
问题:What’s your opinion of the future And why
I feel hopeful about the future, because the technology is developing quickly.

An interview with Andy Griffiths
Andy Griffiths is well known as a writer of children’s books. Here are some interesting things you might not know about him!
What do you like to do after a long day of writing
I go for long runs and bike rides beside the beach. An hour of exercise after a long day of writing gives me energy. Then I’m ready to write some more.
Do you write using a computer or by hand

What is your favourite food
I’m never happier than when I’m drinking banana milkshakes. And I love fish. But I don’t like drinking fish milkshakes—they are just terrible!
What is your favourite book
Alice in Wonderland. It has so many surprises and such silliness in it.
Do you write for adults too
Only if I really have to. I much prefer the freedom and fun of writing for children.

There are many holidays and festivals. Dads have Father’s Day. Mums have Mother’s Day. But do our grandparents have a special festival Yes, they do!
The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for older people in China. It started long ago. The festival is on lunar September 9th. On this day, people show love and respect to their grandparents.
There are many ways in which Chinese people express their respect. When an older person enters a room, everyone stands. People are introduced from the oldest to the youngest. When we present a book to an older person, two hands are used. Young people always offer their seats to older people on a crowded subway or bus.
Respecting older people is a tradition in China. That’s because the Chinese know that older people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn. Chinese people are proud of being old.
In Western countries, however, older people seldom think they are old. They are called “seniors”instead of “old people”. They’d rather do everything themselves. Even after retirement(退休)they take up hobbies, part-time jobs and new activities to keep their bodies working well.
Westerners respect their older people, too. Usually, seniors don’t have to buy tickets for trains and buses. They are given discounts(打折)in stores and restaurants.
But Western seniors don’t often live with their children—they live alone. For holidays, the family usually gather at the grandparents’ home, and a great smile and a warm hug for their parents are enough for grown children to show their respect.
1.When is the Double Ninth Festival
2.How many ways in which Chinese people express their respect are mentioned
3.What can the young learn from older people
4.Can seniors in Western countries take the trains for free

On Sept. 19,2014 Alibaba went public on the New York Stock Exchange(纽约证券交易所), raising $25 billion through an IPO(公司股票的首次公开发行), the biggest in the US history. It shows that Ma Yun has done his business successfully. The short Chinese man seems to be the tallest in the world right now. Ma, who was an English teacher, has become one of the richest men on the Chinese mainland.
Born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Ma grew up as a happy kid. At the age of 12, he wanted to learn English. Every morning, he woke up at 5 a.m., cycling 40 minutes to a hotel near the West Lake where he could chat with foreign tourists.
On a trip to the US in 1995, Ma was shown the Internet for the first time. Seeing the chance, Ma returned to China and set up a website called China Pages without even knowing much about computers.
Four years later, 18 people including Ma, his wife and his friends founded Alibaba in Hangzhou. People called him “Crazy Jack Ma”. But 15 years later, Alibaba has developed into the world’s largest e-commerce(电子商务)company.
No one thinks he’s mad now. Ma’s favorite line has been printed on Alibaba’s souvenir T-shirts. It reads, “Everybody should have a dream. What if that dream comes true ”

Mr. Guo is a teacher from Xi’an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code(二维码). “We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate(使产生)the codes, and in the end everything gets easier,”said Guo.“When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat. Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work anywhere using my computer or telephone.”
The QR codes can be sent to Mr. Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans(扫描)his students QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative, with many pictures, music and even videos.
Guo’s students like the new way and think it is interesting. “We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes learning more fun,”said Tingting, a student of Guo’s.
“The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share,” Guo said.“It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don’t want my students to fall behind the times.”
However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it’s unnecessary. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the codes when they hand in their work, which doesn’t take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students’ work at any time. And it’s also an easy way to share homework with other students.

The baby snail asked again,“The caterpillar(毛毛虫)has no bones, either, and she can’t move quickly. Why can she live without a shell ”The mother snail answered,“That’s because a caterpillar will become a butterfly(蝴蝶). She can fly high into the sky. The sky can protect her.”
The baby snail had one more question,“But the earthworm(蚯蚓)moves like us. He has no bones and he won’t turn into a butterfly. Why doesn’t he carry a hard and heavy shell ”His mother said,“He can dig a hole and hide in the ground, and then the earth can protect him.”
The baby snail then cried,“We are so poor!We have no protection from the sky or from the ground!”His mother smiled at him,“That’s why we have a shell. My dear, imagine that if we don’t have the shells, what will happen to us Hot sun will dry out our bodies and we’ll have nowhere to sleep. What’s worse, we’ll die in the heavy rain. While you are at the bookstore, you may be faced with a difficult decision: e-books or paper books Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. Making the best decision depends on a number of factors(因素).
An e-reader can carry a whole library wherever you go, which is great for travelers or those who always want a choice of reading material. Although e-readers are convenient, high levels of screen brightness from an electronic device(电子设备)can cause eye problems. A study in the Information Science Research found that young people preferred e-readers, like smartphones or iPads. That’s why most teenagers are short-sighted.
Many book lovers still prefer paper books and value the feeling of them. Paper books are very well designed, they look and smell good, and they carry with them a more human touch. Avid(热衷的)readers prefer reading on paper. Perhaps this is their choice because paper books give them a sense of ownership. Huge Waves Destroying Arctic Ice Faster than Expected
Ice covers much of the Arctic Ocean(北冰洋). Some pieces of ice are huge, like moving islands. As temperatures have increased, however, some of the ice has begun to disappear. Scientists have discovered huge waves(海浪)in the arctic waters.
The waves were discovered by accident in May, 2010. Scientist Aleksey Marchenko and his students set out on a trip. They wanted to study the icy waters.
On May 2, the ship traveled east and stopped next to a large chunk of ice around 50 miles from the small island of Hopen. Marchenko prepared to lead his students out onto the ice.
“We were ready to go but when I went out, I discovered many cracks(裂缝)around,” he remembers.
He decided to move the ship deeper into the ice to keep safe. The farther in they went, he thought, the harder the ice would become. As they pushed forward, however, the ship experienced small waves, and then bigger ones. Soon, the waves broke up the ice around the ship into thousands of smaller pieces.
Within an hour, Marchenko and his team saw a wave that was about 13 feet high. The ship’s navigation(航行)system finally recorded the largest waves. They were more than 20 feet in height. The waves were so strong that they forced huge pieces of ice to jump up and down, breaking the ice into smaller pieces within just one hour. Scientists had never imagined that the process could happen so fast. The waves in these areas used to be small.
The speed and force of the huge waves there makes it impossible to know in advance when they are coming. That could be dangerous for navigators and local communities who are unprepared for huge waves or depend on sea ice to protect them. Wildlife like polar bears and walruses that depend on sea ice to live is also in danger.
Some scientists think people will soon see even bigger waves in these icy waters. As waves break up ice, the seas will become more open, and the waves will get even stronger. There are stormy times ahead.
1.When did Marchenko and his students discover huge waves in the arctic waters
2.Why did Marchenko and his students set out on the trip
3.What did Marchenko decide to do to keep safe
4.How high were the largest waves recorded by the navigation system
