breakfast."It's very pretty.I can't believe you designed and sewed that all by yourself!"Mom
said."I'm so proud of you!How long did that take "Dad asked.Ella pulled out her chair and sat
down."Two weeks!But I think I could make the next one faster.I had a few problems.
Ella smiled.She had so many problems making the dress,but right now it was all worth it.It
was going to be a great day.
The kids at school weren't quite as excited about her dress as she thought they would be,but
she did get some nice comments from some of the girls,so she was happy about that.The day
went by quickly,and before she knew it,she was outside for the last break of the day.What a
perfect day,she thought to herself as she swung on the swings.
The school bell rang and the break was over.When the swing was close to stopping,Ella
jumped off.When she landed,she heard a loud rip ()She moved her hand to the back of her
dress.It was ripped all the way down the back!Her very first fashion creation fell apart!Ella was
so embarrassed.
Ella spotted her teacher,Miss Miller,near the door.Ella took one hand from her dress and
waved for Miss Miller to come to her.Miss Miller came up and looked at the back of Ella's
dress.“Ohno!And it is such a beautiful dress!”"I made it myself,”Ella said.“You must be very
proud!You did a great job!""Not really.Or it wouldn't have ripped.""Well,that happens
sometimes.Even with clothes you buy in the store!"

pool at the YMCA was one of their favorite places,where they learnt and practiced
swimming.
Rosa and Stephanie did everything together.They rode the school bus together.
They sat together during lunch.They took dance lessons together and they even went
to the same summer camp.Their classmates called them "twins".They were best
friends.Most of the time.
Sometimes,though,when Stephanie was with other friends,she ignored Rosa or
treated her like a little kid,even though they were the same age.Rosa and Stephanie
had played together since they were babies,but sometimes Stephanie didn't act like a
friend.
Today was one of those times.
"Sorry.I'm already going to the pool,"Stephanie said."Toni and Vanessa and I
are going."She gave a broad smile,but in Rosa's eyes,it wasn't her nice smile.
Saying nothing more,she walked straight away to join Toni and Vanessa,and Rosa
was left standing alone,with her face burned and an angry tension coming into her
limbs.
After school,at dance class,Stephanie talked and giggled with the other dancers
as they stretched in
front of the mirror.
When Rosa came in,

hello to her,but just
another smile.
Rosa
hesitated for a while
about
whether
she
should join them,but
she still felt too upset.
Then she noticed
Kiara,the new girl.
Rosa joined her and began stretching,too.Kiara smiled and Rosa smiled back.The

thought she was.Kiara talked a lot-about her little brother,about the tree house her
uncle had built and even about swimming."I love swimming,"Kiara said."I will hold

responded.She tried not to check the mirror to see if Stephanie had noticed.She
hoped Stephanie felt left out.
