Once, a circle broke. It missed a small part of itself. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around and looked for its missing piece. But, because it wasn’t complete, it could roll(滚动)only very slowly. It smelled the flowers along the way. It talked with the worms. It enjoyed the sunshine. It found lots of different parts, but none of them fit. It left them all by the side of the road and kept on searching.
One day, the circle found a perfect piece. It was so happy. It could be whole, with nothing missing. It fixed itself and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, but too fast to notice the flowers or to talk to the worms. The circle missed the flowers and the worms. It left its perfect piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.
Perhaps we are more whole when we are missing something. In some ways, a man who has everything is a poor man. He will never know what it feels like to dream of something better. He will never know the experience of finding something he has always wanted and never had.

C.There is nothing perfect in the world. D.The circle became happy after fixing itself.

Fifty years ago, students could look up information in a textbook and believe it to be true. People still had their own opinions and biases(偏见), but they couldn’t so easily be well known to the public, nor spread so widely. In today’s world, anybody can post anything online. So when students have a question, a quick Internet search will provide them with millions of different answers. And also information is being produced and spread faster than ever. But do students really understand anything they see online Do they know how to tell what’s true and what isn’t, what’s the fact and what’s the opinion Do they know how to create their own online things If they can do these things, then they are “digitally literate(有数字素养的)”.
Teaching students “digital literacy” skills is as important as the traditional skills of literacy—reading and writing. In 2017, the theme for International Literacy Day, which fell on Sept. 8, was “Literacy in a digital world”. In 2022, the theme was “Narrowing the digital divide”, which also showed the importance of digital skills.
Why are these skills important Reading and writing teach people how to watch the world. Learning digital skills does the same thing. These skills can help people stay comfortable and free on the Internet, which is important in the information age.
Education is the key to this, but only a few schools teach students how to spot whether information is biased. Schools have a large responsibility in this matter. Teachers can tell students some ways to make sure what they read is true, such as checking where the information comes from and who writes it. While parents can also play a role in helping their children not to believe everything they read online.
51.What did students use to do when they had a question
A.Look up a textbook. B.Search the Internet.
C.Post something online. D.Create their own things.
52.What does the underlined word “spot” mean
A.Learn. B.Point. C.Separate. D.Find.
53.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A.The Key to Education B.The Traditional Skills of Literacy
C.The Importance of Digital Literacy D.The Development of Digital Literacy

As a child, visiting the zoo was more a punishment than a treat. I didn't find the chimps' tea parties funny, nor does the bird show entertaining. Feeding time for seals was less painful, but their performances still seemed like they belonged more in a circus.
And I hated circuses (马戏团), especially the animal acts-men teasing lions, girls balancing on elephants and monkeys playing football. I knew that every trick a circus animal did was unnatural, achieved through strict training and quite possibly cruelty.
Happily, during my lifetime public attitudes and the law have changed. Circuses using wild animals have now almost disappeared, and zoos have definitely improved.
When my children were young, I occasionally took them to our local zoo. The elephants were in tiny cages and the gorillas looked bored as they sat peeling bananas and staring at teasing visitors. Each cage had a sign which listed the animal's name and where it came from. But,back then, there was little information included about the environmental challenges they faced.
As a result, environmentalists and animal lovers often oppose (反对)zoos. "Animals belong in the wild, "is a common and understandable complaint. But what do the animals themselves prefer
Generally speaking, zoo animals have a longer life. But you may protest they are not free. What Free to be hunted and killed, free to die of hunger or thirst Maybe sitting in a cage eating bananas isn't so bad.
Not that such conditions are acceptable in modern zoos, due to the work of BIAZA,the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. These days every zoo requires BIAZA's approval to operate, and the association sets the standards, observes conditions in zoos and develops animal-research programmes. BIAZA also organizes the animal exchanges between zoos all over the world.
Consequently, today, most zoo animals are born and raised in zoos, live in large, comfortable enclosures and are cared for by well-trained,knowledgeable and caring zoo employees. Of course,it's no substitute for living in the wild but unfortunately this isn't always possible. Meanwhile, why not visit your local zoo and decide for yourself
The passage is mainly about .
A.how zoos have improved
B.whether a zoo should be closed down
C.a new environmental organization
D.the difference between zoos and circuses
55. From Paragraph 2,we can guess that the writer believes circus animals .
A.had much shorter lives than those in the wild
B.were not treated well by their trainers
C.should have been placed in zoos
D.were not as intelligent as those in zoos
56. Which of the following roles are performed by BIAZA
A. Organizing animal study projects and training zoo workers.
B. Checking zoo conditions and arranging animal exchanges.
C. Designing zoos and approving zoo operations.
D. Caring for ill animals and setting zoo standards.
57. Which of the following statements about zoos would the writer agree with
A. Zoo animals should be freed into the wild.
B. Zoos are more popular now than in the past.
C. Zoo animals are more restricted than in the past.
D. Zoos now provide caring living conditions for animals.

Once, a circle broke. It missed a small part of itself. The circle wanted to be whole, so it
went around and looked for its missing piece. But, because it wasn’t complete, it could roll(滚
动)only very slowly. It smelled the flowers along the way. It talked with the worms. It enjoyed
the sunshine. It found lots of different parts, but none of them fit. It left them all by the side of
5
the road and kept on searching.
One day, the circle found a perfect piece. It was so happy. It could be whole, with nothing
missing. It fixed itself and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast,
but too fast to notice the flowers or to talk to the worms. The circle missed the flowers and the
worms. It left its perfect piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.
Perhaps we are more whole when we are missing something. In some ways, a man who has
everything is a poor man. He will never know what it feels like to dream of something better. He
will never know the experience of finding something he has always wanted and never had.
48.At first, the circle rolled very slowly because it ______.
A.wanted to smell the flowers B.was too small to roll quickly
C.got broken and wasn’t whole anymore D.wanted to enjoy the sunshine
49.With the perfect piece on, the circle found that ______.
A.it rolled even more slowly B.the worms didn’t want to talk to it
C.it couldn’t enjoy life any more D.the flowers were more beautiful
50.What can we learn from the story
A.Being broken is worse than being perfect. B.Being broken is another kind of beauty.
C.There is nothing perfect in the world. D.The circle became happy after fixing itself.

Fifty years ago, students could look up information in a textbook and believe it to be true.
People still had their own opinions and biases(偏见), but they couldn’t so easily be well known
to the public, nor spread so widely. In today’s world, anybody can post anything online. So when
students have a question, a quick Internet search will provide them with millions of different
answers. And also information is being produced and spread faster than ever. But do students
really understand anything they see online Do they know how to tell what’s true and what isn’t,
what’s the fact and what’s the opinion Do they know how to create their own online things If
they can do these things, then they are “digitally literate(有数字素养的)”.
Teaching students “digital literacy” skills is as important as the traditional skills of
literacy—reading and writing. In 2017, the theme for International Literacy Day, which fell on
Sept. 8, was “Literacy in a digital world”. In 2022, the theme was “Narrowing the digital divide”,
which also showed the importance of digital skills.
Why are these skills important Reading and writing teach people how to watch the world.
Learning digital skills does the same thing. These skills can help people stay comfortable and
free on the Internet, which is important in the information age.
Education is the key to this, but only a few schools teach students how to spot whether
information is biased. Schools have a large responsibility in this matter. Teachers can tell
students some ways to make sure what they read is true, such as checking where the information
comes from and who writes it. While parents can also play a role in helping their children not to
believe everything they read online.
6
51.What did students use to do when they had a question
A.Look up a textbook. B.Search the Internet.
C.Post something online. D.Create their own things.
52.What does the underlined word “spot” mean
A.Learn. B.Point. C.Separate. D.Find.
53.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A.The Key to Education B.The Traditional Skills of Literacy
C.The Importance of Digital Literacy D.The Development of Digital Literacy

As a child, visiting the zoo was more a punishment than a treat. I didn't find the chimps' tea
parties funny, nor does the bird show entertaining. Feeding time for seals was less painful, but
their performances still seemed like they belonged more in a circus.
And I hated circuses (马戏团), especially the animal acts-men teasing lions, girls balancing
on elephants and monkeys playing football. I knew that every trick a circus animal did was
unnatural, achieved through strict training and quite possibly cruelty.
Happily, during my lifetime public attitudes and the law have changed. Circuses using wild
animals have now almost disappeared, and zoos have definitely improved.
When my children were young, I occasionally took them to our local zoo. The elephants
were in tiny cages and the gorillas looked bored as they sat peeling bananas and staring at
teasing visitors. Each cage had a sign which listed the animal's name and where it came from.
But,back then, there was little information included about the environmental challenges they
faced.
As a result, environmentalists and animal lovers often oppose (反对)zoos. "Animals belong
in the wild, "is a common and understandable complaint. But what do the animals themselves
prefer
Generally speaking, zoo animals have a longer life. But you may protest they are not free.
What Free to be hunted and killed, free to die of hunger or thirst Maybe sitting in a cage eating
bananas isn't so bad.
Not that such conditions are acceptable in modern zoos, due to the work of BIAZA,the
British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. These days every zoo requires BIAZA's
approval to operate, and the association sets the standards, observes conditions in zoos and
develops animal-research programmes. BIAZA also organizes the animal exchanges between
zoos all over the world.
Consequently, today, most zoo animals are born and raised in zoos, live in large, comfortable
enclosures and are cared for by well-trained,knowledgeable and caring zoo employees. Of
course,it's no substitute for living in the wild but unfortunately this isn't always possible.
Meanwhile, why not visit your local zoo and decide for yourself
7

It is reported that not getting enough sleep can cause problems in students’ study. Many students fall asleep in class or while doing their homework. So they get lower grades than those who get enough sleep. Many scientists think middle school students should have about nine hours’ sleep a night. As for the students who feel nervous and forgetful, most of them don’t get enough sleep at night.
Why aren’t students getting enough sleep Most students have one of the following reasons: too much homework, a mobile phone or a computer in their bedrooms. So many students can’t fall asleep before 11:00 p.m. But they have to get up early for school the next day.
