1. Why is Shackleton looked up to as a hero despite his failure to reach the South Pole
For one thing, he was brave enough to embark on(从事,开始) a trans-Antarctica expedition, something no one had ever done before. For another, faced with enormous difficulties, he had shown exceptional leadership, made wise decisions and brought his men out of danger. Therefore, no one can deny that Shackleton deserved to be admired as a great hero.
