On
Friday, Shannon Grimm noticed that a 5-year-old girl, Priscilla, in her
kindergarten class was really sad and depressed at school, because she was
teased by some students, who said that her short hair made her look like a boy.
"What is a better way to show them that you can look any way and still be true to yourself
than to cut my own hair " Grimm said to herself. After thinking deeply, she decided to cheer the student up by showing support, so she chopped(剪)her
waist-length brown hair into the same pixie cut(精灵短发)as
Priscilla's.
Walking into a grocery
store or other
public places with her new haircut did make Grimm feel awkward. However, she said
the temporary discomfort was worth it because she was able to help Priscilla
feel better about her appearance. "I
don't want my students to ever feel like their confidence is down because of
the way people look at them and say things to them. " Grimm said.
At a
school meeting last week, the little girl Priscilla presented Grimm with a
medal for being her hero during
a difficult time. More important to Grimm, her creative way works out.
"Who's
beautiful " Grimm asked Priscilla later. "Me. " the girl
responded with a smile.
Although
Grimm said she missed her long hair,
she said the experience had allowed her to better understand Priscilla's feelings. "Sometimes you just have to experience
it. You have to teach them and show them that you're there for
them. "
Her hair will grow back, but Grimm said she hopes to give a more lasting lesson to her students.
" It doesn't matter what haircut
you have," she said. "You're beautiful no matter what. "
24.What made Priscilla teased by her classmates
A.Her ugly face. B.Her low grades.
C.Her boyish hairstyle. D.Her rude manners.
25.How did Grimm help Priscilla
A.By praising Priscilla in class.
B.By presenting Priscilla medal.
C.By cutting her own hair.
D.By criticizing Priscilla's classmates.
26.Why did the little girl answer that she was beautiful
A.She regained confidence. B.She became a hero.
C.She deserved long hair. D.She had a heroic teacher.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.A depressed little girl. B.Short hair, loving heart.
C.Short hair, more sadness. D.A crying little girl.

Why
do people travel Well, we usually
travel because we want to see other countries and visit places that are famous,
interesting or beautiful. We travel
to meet new friends, to try new kinds of food, to experience life in other
parts of the world or simply to get away from cold weather. However,
there are other reasons for adventure travel. Many of today's adventure travelers are looking for an
unusual experience and adventure travel is becoming more and more popular. Here is a quick look at two popular activities:
hiking and rafting.
Instead
of spending your vacation on a bus, in a hotel or sitting on the beach, you may
want to try hiking.
Hiking is a great way to travel. You
will get close to nature and take exercise at the same time. Hiking is easy to do and doesn't have to be very
expensive. You can hike close to home or other places.
The basic equipment you need for hiking is simple: good shoes, clothes and a
backpack. You can hike in the
mountains, in a forest or along a river.
You can also go for a hiking in the
city.
Another
exciting adventure is rafting. A raft
is a small boat that you can use to paddle(划桨) down rivers and streams. Rafting
is a good way to experience nature. If you want a normal rafting trip, choose a
quiet stream or river that is wide and has few fallen trees or rocks. As with
hiking, you should always think about your safety and wear good clothes. You also need to learn the basic skills,
such as how to handle the raft, how to
paddle and how to get in and out of the raft. You should not raft unless you know how to swim, and you should
always wear a life jacket.
28.Adventure travelers want to ________.
A.visit famous sites or beautiful places
B.meet new friends and get away from bad weather
C.try new kinds of food and see other countries
D.experience something exciting and unusual
29.Hiking is a good way of traveling because ________.
A.you seldom do it in the city
B.you need a lot of equipment for it
C.you can work out in nature
D.you don't have to consider the safety
30.Before you go rafting, you do not have to _________.
A.learn rafting skills B.wear leather shoes
C.put on a life jacket D.know how to swim
31.The author wrote this passage mainly to introduce ________.
A.two exciting ways of traveling B.something about rafting
C.the safety rules of traveling D.something about hiking

Can exercise during childhood protect you against memory
loss many years later Exercise early in life seems to
have lifelong benefits for the brain, in rats at least.
"This
is an animal study, but it shows that
physical activity at a young age is very important — not just for physical development, but
for the whole lifelong track of cognitive (认知的)
development during ageing," says Martin of the University of Toronto,
Canada. "In humans, itmay put off the appearance of
Alzheimer's(阿兹海默症)symptoms,
possibly to the point of preventing them. "
Martin's team divided 80 young male rats into two
equal groups, and placed running wheels in the cages of one group for a period
of six weeks. Around four months later — when the rats had reached middle age —
the team taught all the rats to connect an electric shock with being in a
specific box. When placed in the box, they froze with fear.
Two weeks later, the team tested the rats in three
situations: exactly the same box in the same room, the same box with the room
arranged differently, and a
completely different box in a different room.
The
rats without access to a running wheel when they were young now froze the same
percentage of times in each of these situations, suggesting they couldn't remember which one was dangerous. But
those that had been able to run in their youth froze 40 to 50 percent less in
both changed box settings.
"The
results suggest the amount of physical activity when we're young, at least for
rats, has influence on
brain and cognitive health — in the form of better memories — when we're older," says Arthur Kramer of Northeastern
University in Boston, who has found that, in humans, exercise improves the
growth of new brain cells.
32.The study shows that______.
A.exercise when young can prevent memory loss when older in rats
B.physical activity is important for physical health
C.using the running wheels is of benefit to the rats' growth
D.physical activity can prevent human's Alzheimer's symptoms
33.What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.study B.development C.benefit D.exercise
34.How are Paragraph 3 and 4 mainly developed
A.By analyzing causes. B.By giving an example.
C.By showing differences. D.By describing the process.
35.What is the author's attitude towards the animal study
A.Surprised. B.Critical (批判性的).
C.Objective (客观的). D.Doubtful.

M: Hello,can I speak to Miss Leaney
W: This is Leaney. May I know who's calling
M: I'm Adam Watt from the Seven Star Insurance Company. Thank you for your interest in our company. I need some more information from your side.
W: Oh, sure, Mr Watt. Please go ahead.
M: You've got a degree in finance. Why did you apply for this job
W: I read the job description and discovered a few interesting programmes that I'd like to be a part of. They are challenging, just the sort of things I consider to fit me best.
M: I see. But given your educational background, wouldn't you want to work for some bigger companies
W: I prefer smaller companies to bigger ones, because a smaller business has the ability to be more flexible in its service offerings. In a small company, we can provide our customers with the exact service that they need. By doing this, we can form a closer relationship with our customers as if they were our neighbours or relatives.
M: That's very interesting. When will you start to work
W: In two weeks. I've promised my parents a ten-day visit. I can start work immediately after I'm back.
M: Great! I will call you back in a couple of days about our final decision.
W: OK. Thank you very much.

M: Hello, everyone. Today I'm going to talk about small talk. That is short conversationspeople often have with strangers they meet. Such exchanges occur at bus stops, on buses, while waiting in line, almost anywhere that strangers gather close together. As a matter of fact, these short conversations are a good way for people to say hello and express friendliness. Such conversations usually cover a wide range of topics. The topics may include weather, customer service, movies, TV shows, local sports or latest news. But you should always keep it in your mind that private questions about incomes, family life and religious beliefs should be avoided during these conversations. In addition, it's better to ask open-ended questions. If you ask visitors, "Do you like our city ", they may say simply "Yes!" On the other hand, if you ask, "What do you think of our city ", they will have more freedom in answering. This type of question also shows that you're interested in them. If you appear interested in what people are saying, they feel more comfortable talking with you.

根据第二段“‘This is an animal study, but it shows that physical activity at a young age is very important — not just for physical development, but for the whole lifelong track of cognitive development during ageing,’ says Martin of the University of Toronto, Canada.”
根据第三段“Martin's team divided 80 young male rats into two equal groups, and placed running wheels in the cages of one group for a period of six weeks. Around four months later — when the rats had reached middle age — the team taught all the rats to connect an electric shock with being in a specific box. When placed in the box, they froze with fear.” 当它们被放进盒子里时,它们吓呆了;以及第四段“Two weeks later, the team tested the rats in three situations: exactly the same box in the same room, the same box with the room arranged differently, and a completely different box in a different room.”
根据第五段“The rats without access to a running wheel when they were young now froze the same percentage of times in each of these situations, suggesting they couldn’t remember which one was dangerous. But those that had been able to run in their youth froze 40 to 50 percent less in both changed box settings.”

On
Friday, Shannon Grimm noticed that a 5-year-old girl, Priscilla, in her
kindergarten class was really sad and depressed at school, because she was
teased by some students, who said that her short hair made her look like a boy.

根据第一段“On Friday, Shannon Grimm noticed that a 5-year-old girl, Priscilla, in her kindergarten class was really sad and depressed at school, because she was teased by some students, who said that her short hair made her look like a boy.”
根据第二段中的“After thinking deeply, she decided to cheer the student up by showing support, so she chopped her waist-length brown hair into the same pixie cut as Priscilla's.”
根据第四段中的“More important to Grimm, her creative way works out.” ‘Me.’ the girl responded with a smile.”“谁很漂亮?” 故选A。
根据第二段“‘What is a better way to show them that you can look any way and still be true to yourself than to cut my own hair ’Grimm said to herself. After thinking deeply, she decided to cheer the student up by showing support, so she chopped(剪)her waist-length brown hair into the same pixie cut(精灵短发)as Priscilla's.”“除了给自己剪头发,还有什么更好的方法能向他们展示你无论如何都能做真实的自己呢?”

D.Doubtful.

35.C
根据第一段中的“Exercise early in life seems to have lifelong benefits for the brain, in rats at least.” 故选A。
