作文
Dear Green,
I'm writing to tell you good news. Our class has won the first prize in our school's English drama performance competition. I really appreciate your guidance and great help.Looking back on the process of preparing for the contest, I'll never forget the great progress we made with your help. Not only did you correct the mistakes in our pronunciation, you also recommended wonderful English drama videos for us to imitate. What's more, it was your constant encouragement that inspired us to be confident, which played a vital role in winning the contest. Through the contest, I've realized that only when we set a goal and work hard towards it can we gain success in the end. Many thanks again.

Yours sincerely,

Our room was on the second floor but you could still hear the roar of the ocean and see the stars at night. I used to take long walks along the water. The food in town was wonderful and the people were very friendly. The area was very quiet, peaceful and fairly deserted (空寂无人的).
The last evening of our vacation, however, we all heard strange footsteps following closely behind us as we were walking up to our room in the holiday center. We turned around and noticed a fairly young man moving very rapidly across the beach and getting close to us. He was tall and wore a baseball cap. We couldn’t see his face and he was approaching (接近) us very rapidly. The man’s actions made my dad very anxious. Dad warned us that we’d better try to make it to our hotel room as quickly as possible. I didn’t like my dad’s voice. I could hear anxiety in it. It was late and we were all alone. We didn’t have any cellphones on us. I never saw Dad as anxious as he was then and I knew that something was terribly wrong. The sense of fear started to overwhelm Mom and me. We had had such a good time in town. Now, the night was rapidly turning into a dangerous situation.
We could hear the man’s footsteps getting closer. Dad’s face was almost pale. The so-called intruder (侵入者) had moved nearer and nearer when all of a sudden, the nearby vending (自动贩卖) machine started going crazy and spitting out cans of soda! The noise actually scared the intruder and he ran out of sight. My parents were shaking, but we all turned around to see who had put money into the vending machine downstairs, and actually saved us, but no one was around at all. Not a soul. It’s one vacation I will never forget.

27.What helped them get out of the trouble
A.Their quick action. B.Timely help from a young man.
C.The young man’s warning. D.The noise from the vending machine.
C
We journalists live in a new age of storytelling, with many new multimedia tools. Many young people don’t even realize it’s new. For them, it’s just normal.
This hit home for me as I was sitting with my 2-year-old grandson on a sofa over the Spring Festival holiday. I had brought a children’s book to read. It had simple words and colorful pictures — a perfect match for his age.
Picture this: my grandson sitting on my lap as I hold the book in front so he can see the pictures. As I read, he reaches out and pokes (戳) the page with his finger.
What’s up with that He just likes the pictures, I thought. Then I turned the page and continued. He poked the page even harder. I nearly dropped the book. I was confused: Is there something wrong with this kid
Then I realized what was happening. He was actually a stranger to books. His father frequently amused the boy with a tablet computer which was loaded with colorful pictures that come alive when you poke them. He thought my storybook was like that.
Sorry, kid. This book is not part of your high-tech world. It’s an outdated, lifeless thing. An antique, like your grandfather. Well, I may be old, but I’m not hopelessly challenged, digitally speaking. I edit video and produce audio. I use mobile payment. I’ve even built websites.
There’s one notable gap in my new-media experience, however: I’ve spent little time in front of a camera, since I have a face made for radio. But that didn’t stop China Daily from asking me last week to share a personal story for a video project about the integration of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province.
Anyway, grandpa is now an internet star — two minutes of fame! I promise not to let it go to my head. But I will make sure my 2-year-old grandson sees it on his tablet.
28.What do the underlined words “hit home for me” mean in paragraph 2
A.Provided shelter for me. B.Became very clear to me.
C.Took the pressure off me. D.Worked quite well on me.
29.Why did the kid poke the storybook
A.He took it for a tablet computer. B.He disliked the colorful pictures.

30.What does the author think of himself
A.Socially ambitious. B.Physically attractive.
C.Financially independent. D.Digitally competent.
31.What can we learn about the author as a journalist
A.He lacks experience in his job. B.He seldom appears on television.
C.He manages a video department. D.He often interviews internet stars.
D
Many of us have dreams of being our own boss and starting our own businesses, and one woman has been able to make her dreams a reality with the help of a complete change of lifestyle.
Catherine White, 46, spent her teenage years washing cars in order to make ends meet and now she owns a 20 million business empire. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, she said, “My childhood was so unstable, so I always wanted and needed to be independent. I didn’t believe working for someone else gave me that and my future would still rely on someone else.”
At 24, Catherine started her first business from a desk in her sister’s art school but she was struggling with a panic disorder at the time and would find comfort in junk food, which led her to follow an unhealthy lifestyle. After the company reached a steady point a few years later, she decided to go travelling and in the process, completely changed her outlook on life. The woman said the “dramatic change” of scenery helped her mental health significantly, and she was even able to cut junk food out of her diet — dropping her from a size 24 to a size 12 by the time she returned to the UK. And the business mogul (大亨) believes changing her lifestyle also helped her succeed in her career as she is no longer scared of making decisions or speaking in public.
This year, Catherine aims to grow one of the companies under her Freedom Services Group umbrella, Stella Insurance. She set it up in Australia for women. With each deal, the business donates $5 to a charity, and plans are underway to launch in the UK.
The now-millionaire said, “In my wildest dreams, I wouldn’t have thought it could become the size that it has.”
32.Why did Catherine decide to set up her own business
A.To accumulate work experience. B.To make donations to a charity.
C.To depend on herself in the future. D.To raise money for her illness.
33.What can we learn about Catherine from the text
A.She used to be addicted to junk food.
B.She was offered a job in an art school.
C.She was good at speaking in public.
D.She set up Stella Insurance in the UK.
34.Which words best describe Catherine as a businesswoman now
A.Talented and energetic. B.Successful and caring.
C.Ambitious and cautious. D.Brave and imaginative.
35.What message does the author seem to convey in the text
A.Well begun is half done. B.Details determine success or failure.
C.Interest is the best teacher. D.A strong-willed soul can reach his goal.
