I sometimes feel left out with my friends at the party. What can I do
— Susan
Alice: Speak to your best friend before you arrive and ask her to make sure you don’t get left out of the group. That way, she will know to include you in all the fun. Make the effort to speak to some other people at the party. You might even make a new friend or two.
Sometimes I think parties get boring and I want to go home!
— Jenny
Alice: Even a great party will drag if you’re not enjoying yourself. Making the effort to dance and have a chat with your friends will beat the boredom! You don’t have to stay to the very end of the party.
Our school is having a Christmas dance party but I’m really shy. Shall I go or not
— Emma
Alice: Part of you would like to go to the party, so give it a try. Let good friends know how you feel and make sure you’ll have people to dance with when the evening comes. Practice some fun dances so you’ll feel comfortable on the dance floor.
Whenever I go to a party, my dad comes to pick me up at 8 pm. I always have to leave earlier than the rest of my friends and I get really angry with my dad.

The Internet is a growing new world that has been developing ever since it was created many years ago. The only reason Internet sales are not taxed (征税) is because we did not know the Internet would be used to sell products when it was created. Internet sales are no different than going into the store to buy the exact same product except for the fact that Internet sales are not taxed.
When buying online, people cannot see and touch the product the same way they could in a store. To fix this, customers are going into the store to see the product. Then if they like the product, they buy it online to save money on the sales tax. This is a form of tax evasion (逃税) if you ask me!
Everyone has to pay the tax in the store so they should have to pay taxes online as well. Also, the added money brought in through Internet taxing could help the government to fund (为……拨款) certain policies and other things that they could not do without the added funds. This could go toward the country’s schools or other things necessary for society to function well. These funds could be extremely beneficial because of the recession (经济衰退) that the country is in at this point. Internet taxing is a way to increase those funds and in turn improve the quality of life for all who live in that country.
In conclusion, there are many more positives than negatives in the argument over taxing Internet sales. I do understand that I may have to pay more if I want to buy something online, but the funds stay within my society and help my country. The added cost may hurt me at first but in the end, the funds will help me and others in our country.
12.The text mainly discusses _____.
A.whether it is a good way to buy things online.
B.whether Internet sales should be taxed.
C.why people love to buy things online.
D.why Internet sales are not taxed.
13.Internet sales are not taxed because _____.
A.selling online was unexpected. B.they are different from store sales.
C.people don’t know how to tax them. D.many people are against taxing them.
14.What can we learn from Paragraph 2
A.Online shoppers find it difficult to buy satisfactory goods.
B.Customers get better products at a lower price online.
C.Problems related to online shopping are hard to fix.
D.Online shoppers probably try to avoid paying tax.
15.According to the author, taxing Internet sales _____.
A.is good for all people. B.can help the country out of the recession.
C.can help improve the quality of products. D.is beneficial to the development of Internet.

(2021·甘肃武威·高二期末)I was doing some Christmas shopping in a toy store and decided to look at Barbie dolls for my nieces. A nicely dressed little girl was excitedly looking through the Barbie dolls as well. As she was looking,a little boy came to the Pokemon toys. He was dressed neatly, but his clothes were obviously old. He was with his father as well, and kept picking up the Pokemon video toys. Each time he picked one up and looked at his father, his father shook his head and said,“No.”
The little girl had chosen her Barbie. However, she stopped and was watching them. Rather dejectedly, the boy had to give up the Pokemon toys and choose something else. The little girl put her Barbie back on the shelf, and ran over to the Pokemon toys. She excitedly picked up one and raced towards the checkout. I picked up my purchases and got in line behind them. Then, much to the little girl's delight, the little boy and his father got in line behind me. After the toy was paid for and bagged, the little girl handed it back to the cashier (收银员) and whispered something in her ear. The cashier smiled and put the package under the counter.
I paid for my purchases and was rearranging things when the little boy came up to the cashier. The cashier checked his purchases and said,“Congratulations, you are my hundredth customer today, and you win a prize!” With that, she handed the little boy the Pokemon toys, and he could only stare in surprise. It was exactly what he had wanted!
The little girl and her father had been standing at the doorway during all of this. Then they walked out. As I walked back to my car,I heard the father ask his daughter why she had done that. I'll never forget what she said to him. “Daddy, didn't Grandparents want me to buy something that would make me happy?” He said,“Of course they did, honey.” To which the little girl replied,“Well,I just did!”

(2021·甘肃武威·高二期末)When I was young, I wished for a good car and a big house. That was my idea of success. I took all the advanced classes and tried to do well in the exams with my mind set on going to a key school. I just knew that I would somehow become famous and be able to afford the car and the dream house. All the way through junior years, my mind was planning this beautiful future.
Then in the eleventh grade, many losses changed my mind. First, one of my friends died at 16. Soon after, my great-grandmother passed away, followed by my beloved fourth-grade teacher. These events left me not knowing what to do or where to go. Death had never touched me so closely.
After a long period of emptiness, it finally struck me: Life is not promised and neither is future success. Though I was attempting to achieve material success, I was not enjoying my daily life. I realized that finding inner peace, purpose and happiness will stick with me forever and that is real success.
Enjoying life’s precious quirks (偶发事件) makes an ordinary person more successful than a wealthy person who isn’t content and takes everything for granted. The summer before senior years, my attitude changed greatly. Instead of memorizing facts, I began learning skills. Instead of focusing on the future, I focused on today and the many blessings and successes that came with it.
I still get excellent grades, but now I devote weeks to studying instead of struggling for exams, and I think about the future with a deeper sense of meaning. For me, being successful means truly living life each day.
24.The reason why the author changed his idea of success is that ________.

26.What does the author want to tell the readers
A.His opinion about success. B.The true meaning of studying.
C.How to achieve success. D.The true meaning of life.
27.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE
A.The author didn’t want to take all the exams.
B.The author ’s teacher died before the death of his great-grandma.
C.The author didn’t do well in all the exams.

Dear Mr Black,
I used to have a really good group of friends. Now they're all getting into smoking and drinking. I want to find a new group of friends, but I'm shy. How can I know who are the types of people I should make friends with, and who will accept me
Yours,
Mike
Dear Mike,
You've already made a very important step because you've realized that it's time to find new friends. Making and keeping good friends is a challenge for all of us, whether you are shy or not. Since you've done this successfully before, one thing is to think back on how you developed friendships in the past.
Probably the best way to make and keep friends is to find others who share your interests. Lasting friendships often develop between people who enjoy the same activities. You also want to be with friends who share your values and goals for life. It just depends on what your own interests are.
That old saying is also true — the best way to have a friend is to be a friend. Reach out to the others who share your interests, sit with them at lunch, invite them to join you in the activities you all like, listen to their thoughts and tell them yours. Being a real friend takes time and effort. With time and effort, I'm sure you will find some very good friends during your school years and you'll always be in touch after leaving school.
Yours,
Tom Black

Life affects friendships. As we grow, marry, fight in wars, move across the country or change jobs, old friendships fall away and new ones form. As long as we live, the things around us change, and as long as things change, friendships are affected.
When we were children we had best friends. No matter what happened we were still friends. We live our lives, however, and do what life calls for us to do, and as we get older, memories fade (逐渐消失), faces blur (变得模糊不清), and even friends' names from childhood are forgotten.
Do you have a question about friendship Do you wonder what to do with a friend who is no longer friendly Perhaps you will see that you can't control others. If someone wants to be your friend, it is their choice. All you can do is treat them well and do the best for them when you are with them. Then you wish them well when they leave.
You can talk to old timers and they will tell you that life is full of incredible (难以置信的) joy and incredible sorrow, and that what bothers you today will one day become a memory and the sting (痛苦) will be gone. Seniors might tell you that you will learn more as you get older. They will tell you that friendships come and friendships go. Sometimes when they go it will hurt, but you will be okay with it. It's the way life works, after all.
38.What can we learn about friendship, according to the text

C.that childhood friendship is valuable
D.how to share happiness with friends
41.The text is most probably taken from a ________.
A.science newspaper B.novel

If you want to become a fluent English speaker you should take some advice: There are four skills in learning English. They are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentence, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammars or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example, in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.
If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.
42.According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills
A.Reading and listening. B.Reading and writing.
C.Writing and speaking. D.Speaking and listening.
43.The underlined phrase “come across” in Paragraph 2 can probably be replaced by “________”.
A.meet by accident B.discover
C.find on purpose D.look for
44.The author seems to agree with the view that ________.
A.everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day
B.you needn’t practice listening if you keep on reading every day
C.being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening
D.you should take notes of whatever you are hearing
45.The passage is mainly about how to ________.
A.choose suitable listening materials
B.deal with new words in reading
C.improve your English as quickly as possible
D.become fluent in speaking and writing English
