Once upon a time, there lived a wise man. His son, however, was very lazy and wasted his time sleeping. The years passed, and he recognized the need to give something to his son so that he could take care of himself and his family.
One day, he called his son to his room and said, “My son, you are no more a kid now. I want you to find the real purpose of your life.” Then he handed his son a bag. The son opened it. Inside were some food, a little money and a map. His father continued, “I want you to go and find a treasure. I have drawn a map of the place where the treasure is hidden. You need to go and find it.” The son loved this idea. The next day, he set out on a journey to find the treasure. He had to travel really far across forests and mountains. Along the way, he used up the money and even starved sometimes. Luckily, he was helped by some with food and by some with money.
Finally, after a long year, he reached his destination (目的地). He searched and searched but found nothing. He spent two days looking and digging for the treasure. By the third day, he was so tired that he decided to leave.
On his way back, he met the same people who had helped him earlier. This time he stayed a few days with them and helped them in some way or another. He realized how nice they had been to a stranger who had nothing to offer them in return.
When he reached home he realized it had been two years since he left the place. He walked straight into his father’s room. “Father!” he said. The father immediately jumped to his feet and hugged his son.

That was ten years ago, yet it was still fresh in Peter’s childhood memory. At a very young age, he realized the power of words. It was a sunny day. Peter was covered in dust as he rolled on the ground, playing. Just an ordinary day in his second grade class, that’s what Peter thought. His teacher waved at his mom from far away and then walked closer and asked,“Mrs Bit, can we talk for a second ”she said, smiling.
Peter’s mom walked into her office and there they had a conversation. Peter wasn’t allowed to be with his mom at that moment, so he waited outside, assuming that it would be great news. Peter’s teacher thanked his mom as she walked away. His mom looked at him and he felt immediately that something was not okay. As soon as they returned home, Peter couldn’t help asking what they talked about. He asked more than he should. He didn’t care if his mom would get annoyed. He just wanted an answer.
“You’re failing. She said that you’re the only one failing in her class. And she’s pretty sure that you’re not going to make it to the top section. I’m sorry.”Mom said as she held back her tears. Those words ruined every piece of his childhood. That moment placed a ton on his shoulders. Peter was seven years old at that time.
When Peter reached sixth grade, no hope could be seen in his eyes. Failing grades, reports from teachers and the comparisons between him and other students made him feel like he was nothing. No one believed in him, including his parents. He had no friends. Worst of all, he had no confidence in doing anything well.
Peter transferred to another school by seventh grade where he met this teacher. Everybody called her“Miss Diana”. She was sweet, jolly, and different from teachers Peter had before. She treated every student equally. One day, she had to choose a leader for a group.
Paragraph 1:
She went up to Peter who was sitting there alone.

Peter successfully led the group.

As Christmas decorations appeared in town, our parents called my two younger brothers and me together. At first, I thought someone had died, because I had never seen my parents look so sad. My brothers and I stood waiting for the awful news.
Mom hugged me as she murmured, “Christmas is going to be different this year. We won't be having a tree or presents. We can barely afford food.”Dad, resting on the couch, beckoned (招手示意) the boys into his arms.“Things will change when I get back to work.”
My family was poorer than dirt. Dad, the only bread-earner in our family, worked in a coal mine. However, soon after returning to work at the end of a long strike, Dad was hurt in a rock fall that broke bones in his foot. Lying on the couch with the swollen foot high on pillows, he didn't talk or smile much. There was little to smile about. No work, no income.
At nine years old, I mothered my younger brothers: Rodney, aged six, and Stevie, three. We shared a small bedroom. That night, after our parents’ announcement, we talked.
Rodney began. “Em, did you see how sad Mommy and Daddy looked I thought Mommy was gonna cry.
“Me, too. Daddy's foot’s … this big” whispered Stevie, holding out his arms.
“Yeah..We're in hard times," I said.“It makes Mommy and Daddy sad."
“But we don't have to be sad," I added, hoping to brighten the mood.
“Since there are still several weeks to go, maybe we can do something to cheer them up," I said with overdone enthusiasm. The boys proposed, “We can take the money from our piggy bank...earn some more..and surprise them with gifts!"
“I can run errands(跑腿) for Aunt Em and neighbors to earn money," I offered.
“Yeah," Rodney added, “I and Stevie can return bottles and save the deposit money... instead of buying candy!" He pushed Stevie gently with his elbow.
“Yeah!”Stevie clutched his hands together.
We had a plan!
Until they nodded off, I coached my little brothers (especially Stevie) in ways to guard our secret. “Don't talk about it during the day."

As a young boy, I was always a troublemaker and up to no good. I liked playing tricks and enjoyed treating animals in an unfriendly way, like running after cats crazily, making them scared at the sight of me. Besides, I often used a handmade catapult(弹弓)to shoot at birds on the trees.
All this did afford me indescribable pleasure but also got me unkind stares and blames from people around. My parents disapproved of my behavior and were constantly criticizing me for the tricks I played. I was even given a good beating from my father from time to time. Nevertheless, I ignored their warnings and did not correct my ways until an incident occurred.
One summer noon when I was eight, I was alone at home and just finished lunch. Feeling very hot and bored, I decided to hang around the neighborhood, holding my trusty catapult.
Soon, I came to Mr Smith's house. His pet dog, big and strong, was tied to a post outside his house, lying in the shade lazily. Looking around, I found that no one was in sight. I decided to make good use of my catapult to play tricks on the massive dog. Picking up a few small stones from the ground, I aimed at the dog and fired them one by one. Several stones hit the poor dog and it began to bark(吠)loudly in pain and jump up and down. But I felt so fun that I didn't stop doing so. Eventually, the dog's anger was fueled and it barked wildly at me while struggling to break away from the rope. Not realizing anything wrong with my crazy behavior, I was just laughing happily.
Suddenly, the rope that tied the dog loosened and the big dog got free from its bonds. In no time, with a few powerful steps the dog was on me. Its sharp teeth sank into my leg. I screamed with pain and fright and fell o the ground, shouting out for help.

One day my grandfather gave me a gift-a piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach in and get the money out. The only way to get at the money was to break the piggy bank open, My grandfather explained that was the whole idea; the piggy bank would help save my money so that, at the end of the year, I might have enough for that bike I dreamt about. He asked if I would put some of the money he gave me into the piggy bank, I agreed immediately and promised that I wouldn't break it open until I could afford my dream bike.
Whenever he gave me a little bit of money, he would say. "This is for spending But you can save some and put it in the piggy bank if you want to save it up. " When he gave me larger amounts, it was clearly for saving in the piggy bank. For some time, this worked fine. loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it became heavier, I grew more excited, dreaming about buying my new bike, and all the adventures I could have on it.
Whenever I wanted to take some money from the piggy bank to buy delicious ice-creams or beautiful pens, I would imagine riding my bike on the street, and thinking of that, my thoughts about ice-creams or pens went away. So for almost six months, I only put money into the piggy bank without taking any out. I thought I wouldn't break my piggy bank for anything. But one day something unexpected happened. I saw a piece of news on the television that a serious earthquake had happened in a nearby province. As many houses were destroyed, a lot of children became homeless. Seeing their shabby(破旧的)clothes and crying faces, I was sleepless that night. Paragraph 1:

We awoke in the morning, transforming from sad children to the secret agents on an important mission! The following weeks saw me dashing home from school each day determined to earn a penny. I was usually greeted by secret winks and grins- one with a missing tooth, and the other with tiny, straight teeth- both assuring me our secret was safe. A few days before Christmas, we gleefully went shopping. We bought Mom a new apron, and for Dad, a pair of leather slippers. The night of Christmas Eve seemed endless. I awoke occasionally, or one of my brothers woke me asking, “How long till daylight ”
On Christmas morning we hurried into the living room and handed the gifts to Mommy and Daddy. Surprised and stunned, they showered us with tons of confusing questions. “How did you.. ” “Where did you.. ” “Who gave you... "" As we explained how we'd schemed, earned and saved our money, their faces relaxed into expressions of astonishment. Then, with glistening tears, Mom and Dad wrapped us three into their arms. On this special Christmas morning, with the five of us hugging, talking, laughing and listening with fresh affection and gratitude, I understood that rich or poor, we would keep together and be happy in one another.

Having caged the dog, Mr Smith rushed me to the clinic, where the doctor gave me an injection and dressed the wound carefully. On the way back home, I tearfully told Mr Smith the whole story. Not criticizing me, he looked me in the eye and said lovingly, "Animals are our friends that need our care and love and will treat us well if treated well".
