It falls on the first day of the first Chinese lunar month and the celebration lasts from the 23rd of the 12th lunar month up to the 15th of the first lunar month next year.
What is the longest and most important festival in China
Chinese Spring Festival, also called Lunar New Year, has more than 4,000 years of history. Being one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it is the grandest and the most important festival for Chinese people. It is also the time for the whole families to get together, which is similar with Christmas Day to the westerners.
The Origin
In ancient times, there is a ferocious monster called "year", in order to drive it, people wear red dresses, set off firecrackers. Later this habit was survived.
