Read the article and analyse the structures.
Understand long sentences English structures are different from those in Chinese, but you can figure out what a long sentence means by following a few simple steps.
1 Decide if the sentence is
compound (look for and, but, or,
etc.) or complex (look for who,
when, where, etc.).
2 Find the main clause if it is a
complex sentence.
3 Look for modifiers!
1. It was the first time that she had left China.这是她第一次离开中国。(Para1)
※句式“It/This/That+was+the first/the second/...time (that)+过去完成时”表示“某人第一/第二/……次……”
※“It/This/That+is+the first/the second/...time (that)+现在完成时”表示“某人第一/第二/……次……”
※It is/was (about/high) time that...should do sth. /did sth. 意为“到了做某事的时间了”,should不能省略。相当于It is/was time for sb. to do sth. 。
区别:I gave an English speech on the stage for the first time.
经典句式
[句式分析] 这是一个固定句型。此句型中的it可以换成this或that;first也可以用second,third,fourth. . . 等;that引导的从句时态应该用完成时。
【课中讲解】Complex sentences
(1)The teacher criticized him,because it was the second time that he _________ the same mistake.
老师批评了他,因为这是他第二次犯同样的错误。
(2)But this is the first time that I (write) an application,so I don’t know if there is something to pay attention to.但这是我第一次写申请,因此我不知道是否有什么需要注意的。

是我们该做些什么制止污染的时候了。

that引导的宾语从句

that引导的宾语从句
but表转折的并列连词,连接两个并列的that引导的宾语从句;
句子①是一个含if的条件状语从句,主句主语she,谓语acknowledge, what other people had said做其宾语; 句子②主语he,谓语wanted to know, what she thought做其宾语。
句意:她第一次不得不写论文时,她的导师解释说,如果她引用别人的观点,她必须认可别人说过的话,但他主要想知道她的想法!
2.句式:主句+宾语从句,but/and+宾语从句(Para5)
经典句式:the first time(第一次)是名词短语,作连词,引导从句,every time,each time,any time,last time,next time,the moment,immediately,directly,instantly和the first time的用法一样,作连词,引导时间状语从句。
(1)______________ he came to the city,he decided to settle there.
第一次来到那个城市,他就决定在那里安家。
(2)Never mind. You are welcome to come back ___________ you want to.
没关系,你什么时候想回来,我们都欢迎。
(3)___________ light moves into a material with a new speed,it bends and scatters.
每次光线以新的速度进入某一物体,就会发生折射和散射。

该句是一个含省略了关系代词that/ which的定语从句的复合句。

句意:一开始,谢蕾不知道自己该说些什么,但让她吃惊的是仅仅几周后,她就发现自己可以在课堂上发言了。

句式4:让步状语从句+主句+非限制性定语从句
