went 动词原形为go，在此处表示“去从事（某项活动或运动）”，go boating “去划船”。

began动词原形为begin，表示“开始”。
begin to do sth. 开始做某事。
拓展：begin 与start 都有“开始”的意思，两
者常常可以互换。

could是情态动词can的过去式，表示过去的某种能力，情态动词和动词原形一起，构成谓语部分。
3. The girls could not go out.
(1) 表示某人过去能做某事用句型“主语+could+
动词原形+其他.”。
例句：三年前他就会用电脑了。
He could use computers 3 years ago.
(2) 表示某人过去不能做某事用句型“主语+couldn’t
+动词原形+其他.”。
例句：约翰不会打羽毛球。
John couldn’ t play badminton.
