Once there was an old man in China. He was 90 years old. His name was Yu Gong. He lived behind two high mountains, Taihang Mountain and Wangwu Mountain. When his family and he wanted to go out, they had to walk a long way around the mountains.
The Old Man and the Mountains
在中国曾经有一位老人。他90岁了。他的名字叫愚公。他住在两座高山——太行山和王屋山后面。当他和他的家人想出去时，他们不得不绕山走很远的路。
One day, Yu Gong said to his family, “I’m going to remove the two mountains. We must work together.” His wife said , “You are so old, Yu Gong. How can you do that And where can you throw so many rocks ”
一天，愚公对他的家人说：“我将要把这两座大山移走。我们必须一起努力。”他的妻子说：“你太老了，愚公。你怎么能做到呢？并且你能把那么多得岩石扔到哪里呢？”
“I can throw them into Bohai Sea,” Yu Gong said.
A man named Zhi Sou laughed at Yu Gong, “You’re so old. You can’t remove the high mountains!”
一名叫智叟的老人嘲笑愚公：“你太老了。你不可能把高山移走！”
“我可以把它们扔到渤海里，”愚公说。
You can’t remove the high mountains!
You’re wrong.
Zhi Sou laughed at Yu Gong.
你不可能把高山移走！
你错了。
智叟嘲笑愚公。
“You’re wrong, ” Yu Gong smiled. “Look, I have sons. My sons have their sons. The family grows. But the mountains can’t grow higher.”
“你错了，”愚公笑了笑说。“看，我有儿子，我的儿子会有他们的儿子。家族在不断壮大。但是山不能长得更高。”
The Jade Emperor learnt of Yu Gong’s story and was very happy. He asked another two gods to take the two high mountains away.
玉皇大帝知道了愚公的故事，他非常高兴。他叫另外两位天神将这两座高山移走了。
