Tips on how to write a news report
A news report is similar to a news article. It is the basic facts of a story that is currently happening or that just happened. Writing a news report is easy if you report on the subject clearly, conduct good interviews, and write in a style that is clear, concise, and active.
01. Write a headline.
Your headline should be accurate, clear, and easy to understand. Use key words from the story and keep it straight and plain. Use active and short action verbs in your headline. The headline should accurately lead readers to what the report is about.
02. Write a byline and place name.
The byline goes directly underneath the headline. This is where you put your name and clarify who you are. The place name is where the article takes place and is written in all caps.
place name
03. Use a hard news lead.
Keep your lead to the point, fitting as much of the basic information as you can into your lead. A lead is only one or maybe two sentences and summarizes the news story.
04. Write the body of your report.
This is going to consist of the facts, but more detailed and specific than in your lead. Use the information you collected and gathered at the scene and in interviews. Write your report in third person and from a neutral perspective. Make sure your story conveys information and not an opinion.
05. Include quotes in the news report.
Always introduce who you are quoting followed by the exact words that they said. Use their full name the first time you mention them then only use their last name.
06. Always include attributions.
Unless the information is common knowledge, always attribute where you got it. You can get in trouble for not giving credit to someone. This is also important in case a fact is wrong, then it will be known who got the fact wrong and that it was not you.
07. Write in hard news style.
Headline
A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words
Lead sentence
Chen Lei is a senior teacher who takes photos of old buildings in Wuhan in order to preserve the city’s cultural heritage.
Body
Every day, Chen Lei takes his camera and walks patiently through the older parts of the city. Over the years he has taken thousands of pictures of old buildings to create a record for his fellow citizens in the present and future. Another important part of his project are the interviews he conducts with elderly residents. Often these stories help to bring the interesting histories of the buildings to life, giving them their place in the human stories of Wuhan's citizens.
He writes about the buildings, their inhabitants and the
stories that weave them together. He also visits schools to tell students about their cultural heritage.
Ending
Neither people nor buildings last forever, but Chen Lei's photos can help us remember them. The stories that accompany them also help build a picture of life for future generations to hear and add their own stores, too.

第一部分:标题(为了阐明新闻要点、吸引读者阅读,好的新闻标题应当简洁明了);
第二部分:导语(大体交代新闻事件,主要包含时间、地点、人物、事件、缘由等,它扼要地提示了新闻的核心内容);
第三部分:主体(描述事件过程,是对导语的进一步展开和阐述);
第四部分:结语(通常对全文内容作概括性的总结或发表你的评论)。
就本写作任务而言,我们只需写出导语、主体和结语即可。

A wonderful chorus competition
With the aim of encouraging us to display our artistic ability, a chorus competition was held in our school on July 30. Students of all grades participated in it.
On the day of the competition, students dressed up in their best clothes, the girls in clean dresses, the boys in dark trousers and plain white shirts.
Each class of students presented the audience with a perfect performance as expected. As a result of adequate preparation and wonderful performance, all classes won round after round of applause.
Tired but happy, we benefited a lot from the competition as it not only relaxed us but also taught us the significance of team spirit.
