Unit goal The listening material is in GFI 8A Unit7 ‘Will people have robots ’. The topic of Unit 7 is ‘life in the future’. Section A talks about how to make predictions by using simple future (will/won’t) and using quantities with more, less, fewer. Section B leads students to imagine our own life in the future. It also aims to help students have a critical thinking of technology development. However, some of the opinions have been out of date, so it’s a good chance for students to express their own opinions and rethink the development of their cities and lives.
Teaching Objectives By the end of the class, Students are able to make predictions of future life with future tense; conclude skills to keep a conversation going with proper responses. realize that the future is on our hand to create through analyzing different predictions.
Anticipated Difficulties Ss may find it difficult to 1. use “will” and “won’t” properly when making predictions; 2. correctly apply more, less and fewer in different situations.
Teaching Procedure
Procedure Learner’s Activities Purpose
Greeting & Lead-in Song: Que Sera Sera Learn the predictions with will through the development of communication. Ss become aware of the theme of the unit and central topic -- future.
Pre-listening Make predictions about future in general. Picture viewing: identify the main topic and then details, give their opinions towards predictions in the pictures. Ss become aware of the final oral assignment. Ss get to know the related content.
While-listening 1. Listen to 1b: listen and circle the predictions they hear. Pair work: talk about their opinions with asking and answering about predictions in turns with simple future questions. 4. Listen to 2a: circle the words they hear. Conclude the rules of using more, less and fewer. Listen, mark the tones and imitate the conversations. Identify ways to keep the conversation going. Make more predictions about future from different perspectives of life. Ss understand a turn of a dialogue through asking and answering. Ss compare and contrast the usage of target language.
Post-listening Group work: In the discussion, Ss will make predictions, give response to others’ predictions and ask others to say more. Checklist: One student will start, continue and end the discussion. Other students will make proper predictions with (I think/I don’t think)There will be... ;People will do... and give proper responses to others with phrases: I agree, I hope so, I disagree, I hope not, Probably, Yeah, You do Ss apply the language pattern and conversation skills in the new situation.
Homework Written: Finish 3a on P51. Oral: Read after the audio to imitate the pronunciation and intonation;
