The writer wonderd at the skill of the artists, their use of colour and how they played with light and shade. He/She observed the brushwork the artists used to enhance their works,and enjoyed being able to bathe his/her senses in this palace of human activity.

Working out the rules
When used as the predicative, the verb-ing or verb-ed form is connected to the subject by a (1) .
The (2) form is often used to describe a thing or a situation; the (3) form is often used to describe how a person feels.

linking verb(系动词):
1. be动词
2. 保持类:keep, remain, stay
3. 变化类:become, grow, get, go, come
4. 表示“似乎,好像”,主要有seem, appear, look
5. 感官系动词,feel,smell,sound,taste,look
动词-ing形式和动词-ed形式作表语
1. 动词-ing形式作表语,说明主语的特征或性质,意为“令人...的”
eg: The result of the accident is shocking.
2. 动词-ed 形式作表语,说明主语的状态
eg: We are interested in what he said.
3. 动词-ing常 修饰物,动词-ed常修饰人
eg: The competition is exciting.
I and my friends were excited at the competition.
动词-ing or 动词-ed
1. The boy is very interesting.
2. The boy is interested in sports.
a frightening look 令别人害怕的表情
a frightened look 带有害怕的表情(自己表露出来害怕)
1. 当翻译成,令人...时,用ing, 当翻译成,感到...时,用ed
2. 自我感受和他人感受的区别, ed 是自我感受,ing是他人感受
4. 动词-ing形式和动词-ed形式作表语时,可用very,greatly等表示程度的副词修饰
eg: She is greatly pleased with the results.
5. 动词-ing形式表示主语所指内容,动词-ing形式可以带有逻辑主语或宾语
eg: 1. My aim is everybody’s having a good time.
2. My job is teaching primary school students.
动词-ing形式和动词-ed形式作状语
1. 注意逻辑主语和分词的关系,ing 强调主动,ed强调被动
eg: 1. Seeing the headmaster, all students stood up and stop talking.
2. The professor came into the classroom, followed by some experts.
2. 使用与be动词搭配的过去分词短语时,通常省略be动词
eg: 1. Located on the Sichuan Plain, Chengdu is a desirable city.
2. Surprised at the news, everyone rushed out of the factory.
注意:现在分词有完成时和被动式,过去分词没有
现在分词的完成时:having done
现在分词的被动式:having been done
现在分词的否定式: not having done
现在分词表示主动的动作,并且动作发生在谓语动词之前
1. Having received his invitation, the girl seems very happy.
2. Not having received his invitation, the girl feels a bit disappointed.
3. Having been told the truth, we will apologize to the doctor.
习惯表达
generally speaking: 一般来说
talking of / speaking of: 说到,谈到
judging from / by: 根据...判断
considering: 考虑到
taking... into consideration : 把...考虑进去
