While natural disasters are caused by natural forces. We use two words to create a new word and these words are called compound words(复合词). rain + storm→ rainstorm earth + quake→ earthquake land + slide→ landslide avalanche, volcanic eruption, tornado, flood, global warming, lightning, landslide,forest fire, hurricane,tsunami, drought, earthquake, meteorological disaster 气象灾害 geological disaster 地质灾害 ocean disaster 海洋灾害 flood,lightning,tornado, drought, global warming, forest fire avalanche,earthquake,volcano eruption,landslide hurricane,tsunami damage of the natural disasters Some types of natural disasters What damage will they cause? How can we protect ourselves? Natural disasters the topic sentence What to take ? All family members should know how to turn off gas, water and electricity (电) and know useful telephone numbers (doctor, hospital, police and 119 etc) . Drop, Hide and Hold method Protect yourself in different ways. Drop to the floor and protect your head and neck with your arms. Hide yourself beside something like a table,a bed and so on. Hold the furniture so that you won't move away during the earthquake. Never do any of the following. Stand close to the buildings. (They may fall on you.) Stand under the trees or signs. (It's better for you to stand in the open space.) Go too close to the power lines. (You may be badly hurt by electricity.) 4. Be prepared for aftershocks(余震)after the initial(起初的)earthquake has ended. They are smaller than the first one, but still are very dangerous. 3. If you are in a crowded place, do not run for the nearest exit. Everyone will be doing that, and it will be terrible. Take cover under something heavy and stay away from things that can fall on you. It is also very important to remain as calm as possible. If we are outdoors, 1. stay as far away from buildings as possible 2. Stay away from glass or anything that can fall. After the earthquake: Check for injuries (受伤处), take care of injuries and help make sure people around you are all right. Watch out for aftershocks (余震). Protect yourself by wearing long pants, a long-sleeved (长袖的) shirt, strong shoes and gloves.
